  • Brilliant! Have you got the full episode of this?

  • i think dale winton has the other half back then

  • love love it!!

  • u can tell that some of them probley no that it is noel but they are not 2 sure

  • 3:51

    he almost swore

  • who's that guy on the right 1:51 is it dale winton?

  • yes

  • One thing I miss, it's Saturday night TV in the 90's

Much better than this decade (apart from Dr Who and Robin Hood)

  • hahahahahahahahaha

  • i would love to see noel going for a trip round the house

  • i think Noel ment top rank (mecca) WOOD GREEN, there was a top rank (mecca) in Shepheards Bush near Wood Lane, but it was nothing like that club.

  • ....for your duties...fall out!

  • Have you got the one where richard wilson (victor meldrew) sent noel on a trip around the great house from 1996? would love to see that again.

  • This clip was ruined by members of the public. Members of the public ruin everything. Did Noel ever lay that egg?

  • Noel seemed genuinely hacked off about that. He struggled to fake even the mildest of grins. Pay particular attention to his attitude between 02:05 - 02:35.

He'd been looking like that throughout this series. In fact, I remember thinking at the time that the downward trend wasn't being helped by his constant pained expression and off-ish nature.

With hindsight, the seeds of his infamous walkout appear to have already begun to be sown.

Backstage displeasure seemed to be spilling out on-screen.

  • I think it was probably just because it was the 100th show and he thought that everything would go to plan. He probably thought that it would've been the best NTV stunt that they'd pulled, and then it backfired... he did seem to liven up a bit once it got started...

I don't think there were any problems in House Party either on- or off-screen at this point...

  • Perhaps he would have been genuinely pissed off with not being able to hear anything from Dale etc.

I thought it was when the BBC rebranded in 1997 that Noel got angry with what the future was for House Party.

  • putthetellyon1 - Purely based on hearsay, it would seem that there were mild issues from around mid series 4. Nothing especially notable, but they were never resolved and ended up snowballing to the point of Noel's walk out.

The first USA special had aired shortly before this episode, and Noel later admitted that he'd strongly opposed the idea, but was forced to do it by the BBC, who felt (wrongly) that it would help to halt the steady ratings decline.

  • The first USA special was actually a year after this, at the end of series 6. The second was a few shows into series 7. Both these shows coincided with Comic Relief/Children In Need, so they also doubled as a way of the Beeb getting their biggest studio back to do the charity appeal from.

  • JB1601 - Is that so? I could have sworn that the US specials were series 5 then 6. But you seem confident enough, so I'll take your word for it.

The first one they did from New York, I actually quite enjoyed. But I recall the second one being a bit ropey.

The set redesign of series 7 was quite similar to the set used in the first New York special.

  • can you post it please.

  • @97channel so in other words noel knew what was going to happen then

  • @BossRoss999 With the revamp and such? I don't know how far Noel could see where the show was headed, but it was very clear by this point that the series was in trouble. And you could tell that Noel was clocking every single point of failure as they unfolded live on air.

  • @97channel its a shame that it happend but me and my nan still watched it every week

  • Do you have the full episode?

  • This feels like it's from a much more innocent era in television. I liked Noel's House Party. All these clips are great to finally see again. But I guess in the end it was deemed a tad too conservative for the hipper Toothbrush/TFI generation.
