Etc. & people will get all pissy for no reason saying "If I wanted THAT I would have ASKED for IT!!" Im like really? Its hard to hear on the speakerbox also & when u ask the customer "What?" they start yellin in the speaker. Jerks. =/
You are SO right! I did Technical Support on the phone for 10 years and I talked to some SERIOUS ASSHOLES! It was a thankless job. I have also done sales at Radio Shack also. You have a thankless job.
i work at target and the other day, a lady wants to return somethig and have it go back on her debit card. there was something wrong with the system that day so the money couldn't go back into the card but she can have it back in cash. she kept saying how she wanted it back into her card and doesn't want the cash even though she was going to do more shopping in the store.there was nothing we could do but she kept insisting it was so frustrating >:( but i kept my cool.

I think I had more problems with co-workers than customers. When I worked at Macy's. The other employees were so horrific that I actually got a $5 tip from a customer. I do remember one customer at a restaurant I worked. She ate the whole meal and brought back the bone and demanded a refund. I actually miss retail because I love talking to people. My job now requires me to be silent.
Agreed! And people need to stop using dressing rooms as bathrooms, stop letting their kids run wild and poop on the floor, stop hiding dirty diapers in the storage room for me to find days later, stop trying to return white shorts with yellow stains in the crotch, and I could go on.. (all true and disgusting stories from my 3 years working retail)
I work retail too :) I've never been a cashier since i work in fashion stores but i know how customers can be especially because they only see you as the person to pay at.
When you work customer service, you will realise 80% of the population are a bunch of idiots,there are so many crazies out there!
Usually the friendliest people who i meet turn out to be people who have worked customer service. I hate when i get real bad service though, it happens.

I relate to all that, I work in an optometrist and before I've said anything, some customers assume i'm going to push them into getting glasses. They assume I'm stupid because I'm young. They get angry when not served immediately, despite knowing that we're busy, ask us where level one is, push for further discounts, ask to claim their family's private health fund, I could go on all day..
I relate to the coupon section. Im a cashier too and i always get customers that give me trouble about coupons.Its even tougher cuz majority of our customers are tourist that speak a different language.So even though i try to mention to them they could get a coupon at the shopping center's information booth, they dont understand so i just ring them up. And then they come back after finding out the coupon wanting to return everything so they can repurchase the items with the coupon -.-

THIS REMINDS ME! i was at a store i shall not name and i was returning something for my mom and the CSR lady tried to tell me that the product didn't match the product number on the reciept! clearly, the name and everything else matched just not the barcode number. she tried to blame me like i was the one who scanned the product and the price and everything else into the system wrong. i'm never rude to CSRs since i've been in that position but i don't think that lady should've been mad at me.

PREACH, GURL. I've worked in retail for a couple months and I feel like I've learned FAST that people can be SO mean. I've noticed that it's mostly older, uppity women. I don't think some people realize that we're PEOPLE that want to be treated nicely. We have feelings. They need to put themselves in our situation. They could very well be in the situation we are.

4 days ago a customer walks up to me w/ an attitude (mad at something else) so I calmly answer her question but she doesn't want to do what I'm telling her. She starts yelling and saying that idk what I'm doing and leaves. 5 mins later she comes back asking for help(w/ the same attitude) & I say "idk what I'm doing, how I'm I supposed to help you?" She then gets even more pissed & starts screaming, calling me names, nd saying that she was going to get me fired. I had to keep a smile on my face

I'm always ashamed when i'm buying the groceries with him because he'll ALWAYS complain about everything ! I also work retail, and i do honestly love it -- it's a "specialized" store, and I enjoy helping people find what they need. I always go above and beyond to make sure everyone who comes in is treated amazingly. But yeah, the few jerk-y customers can make this VERY difficult. Preach it, sister.

@BriannaHislop Yeah stupid people! I actually had some pretty horrible customers just today! I hate that I let them get to me! But sometimes they're just so rude I can't help but get upset! You're not alone out there my friend. Hopefully you survive this crazy holiday season with all the crazy holiday customers :)

PREACH, GURL. I've worked in retail for a couple months and I feel like I've learned FAST that people can be SO mean. I've noticed that it's mostly older, uppity women. I don't think some people realize that we're PEOPLE that want to be treated nicely. We have feelings. They need to put themselves in our situation. They could very well be in the situation we are.

@KissesInTheDark Oh yeah for sure! I think everyone needs to work in customer service at some point during their lives so that way they can see what it's like & won't be such jerks! I totally agree with you!

4 days ago a customer walks up to me w/ an attitude (mad at something else) so I calmly answer her question but she doesn't want to do what I'm telling her. She starts yelling and saying that idk what I'm doing and leaves. 5 mins later she comes back asking for help(w/ the same attitude) & I say "idk what I'm doing, how I'm I supposed to help you?" She then gets even more pissed & starts screaming, calling me names, nd saying that she was going to get me fired. I had to keep a smile on my face

@ALiSsDr Oh man I first read this comment when I was on a break at wk today! It made my day! Not that I'm happy you had to deal with that person, but knowing I'm not alone when it comes to having to put up with crazy rude customers always makes me feel better! Thanks for sharing this! & I like how you replied to them! You go with your bad (bad is in good) self! Lol!

I love how you speak on both sides! People have to understand both sides. I use to work in retail too and it's difficult to be nice regardless if someone is an idiot! But I am a customer as well... It's all about understanding ;)

WELL SAID, i feel ya, i guess its the same wherever you go, i have dealt with the strangest, rudest, most disrespectful customers, but all i do is smile back and say "have a good day" and take a deep breath and let it go, cause if i were to take to heart i would punch the person across the counter ^_^

I work as a server and have to deal with a lot of ridiculous people, but I when I have a customer that is pushing me over then edge I always remind myself, that at the end of day they are Still going to be douche bag but I will Still be making money.

I sooo agree with you !!! I never worked in customer service but just thinking of one day getting my dad as a client would be HELL ! I'm always ashamed when i'm buying the groceries with him because he'll ALWAYS complain about everything ! Like he hates to wait, so whenever there is someone that takes their time to do their job right, or well just do their job, he'll go mad insulting them -_-''' I feel so bad afterwards for the workers that are so nice ! Good luck and continue being a model !

Oh god, I -THIS WAS NOT MY INTENTION- clicked the thumbs down button. Sorry haha, but you're absolutely right. When I once, asked if they had some sweater in medium size, the girl just rolled her eyes, took the large sweater, and never returned. Isn't that nice?

I agree with u. After 4 years of working in service industry and customer care service
I gave up just because of few idiot people who used to yell at me for no damn reason ( i was in cellular company's front office)
But i dont want to work in a front office ever again . :)

I also work retail, and i do honestly love it -- it's a "specialized" store, and I enjoy helping people find what they need. I always go above and beyond to make sure everyone who comes in is treated amazingly. But yeah, the few jerk-y customers can make this VERY difficult. Preach it, sister.

@vegafem Lol for sure! Its especially frustrating when like you said, you always go above & beyond, but than you still have those difficult customers that no matter what you do, they're not happy! Glad to hear there's someone out there that actually does their job & does it well though! It encourages me to keep trying my hardest becuase I'm not alone out there in the retail customer service world! Lol!

i remember when i worked at a restaurant, sometimes people would order one thing and id give them it, but then once i give them it theyre like "i didnt order that" but i know for a fact they did, and it makes ME look bad. it sucks how you have to always think customers are right :/ im with you on this one!

you go girl~ I agree, 95% you can get better service if you ask nicely rather than being demanding! I work for the county I live in and people are always demanding telling me they pay my salary b/c they pay taxes, they forget I pay taxes too and it does not mean you can treat me like i'm your slave. yep what happened to the golden rule?
