The problem is laptops are a hassle to fix, a desktop you just replace the faulty part and your set, and if the screen gets damaged your screwed, where as a desktop you get a new monitor. I wouldn't say that the game is a disgrace to 40k, but being a big fan of the original Dawn of War, I approached this one with caution. Unfortunately, since I'm not a big fan of PVP, DoW2 didn't come close to matching up in replay value, even though I did have a good time through the single playthrough. Once the story was over, however, there was absolutely no reason to play Campaign again.  What disappointed me most was that they ported the CoH engine over instead of sticking with creativity.

@anagron63 That's because Warhammer 40k never was about the building if you follow it all the way back to its roots as a board game. It was the actual fighting and the strategy involved that made it what it was.

In contrast, the CnC series has always been about building bases, right up until EA decided to introduce a new way of playing...at the cost of losing one of the game's most iconic features. THAT was their suicidal move.

If by "dogged a bullet" you mean "missed out on the best Warhammer PC game yet", then yes.

Even if you're not a fan of Warhammer 40K, it is still a very enjoyable RTS, where (unlike the last C&C) the no base and limited units concept is balanced and works great. It feels more like you're in the warzone, rather than simply watching over it from the safety of headquarters. Via satelite.

I believe there is a demo version. Give it a shot.

It is very different from the original W40k: DOW and many players of the original series expected a more traditional RTS. [That] is what led to some disappointments, not the quality of the actual game. If anything, I'd say this is closer to the W40K miniature wargaming experience, but others may disagree.

I recommend you play it for at least some 3-5 hours, getting to know the gameplay properly, not just the tutorial stages. Have fun.

I've been playing the free demo from Steam and I like what I've been playing so far. In most RTS games, I would simply build up the biggest army I could and then go on a stomping spree. In this game, I actually found myself making a strategy. A lot of times, I would use a unit to scout the area and find a path of least resistance. Then after positioning my squads just right, I would send in a defensive character to lure the enemy into a narrow area where my troops had plenty of cover.

So i doubt what you said is true, perharps you could reach 120 for a few seconds, but you need to keep it at 120 the whole game to be average.

Second, considering what you said, DoW 2 is all about reaction and moving finger quick. All you need to do is get the most powerful unit possible, throw them at enemy, doing a bit of micro in the process and then capturing point and then get more powerful unit =>.... .

Also, if the BC was at its real size and power, the game balance would be completely destroyed

i own both starcraft 2 and dow 2, dow 2 is better. Why? because it requires real combat strategies(flanking, counter attacking, better use of squads,use of terrain, grenades, tactical advances etc.) starcraft 2 is fun for a while, but finally you realize that is most construction orders and rushing your opponent with overwhelming numbers than planning how you going to attack your oponent with the less casualties you can have, dow 2 is more like the reality.

@XibalbaKing Obviously, you are not so high level in SC2. The construction order can be vary depend on the race of your opponent and the build he gets. The difference is in DOW 2 you can pay fully attention into tactical combat micro. When in SC 2, you need to maintain good balance between economic macro and combat micro. SC is more boring at low level, but when you get to diamond, it's much much more strategic - oriented than DOW 2.

i like SC2 ,SC1 was my first pc game along with age of the empires, i don´t care about "levels" i only play in demential dificult and a few times i played multiplayer and beat the shit of my oponents, so don´t tell me if i am a "high" level player or "low" level, i´m not reviewing "levels", SC2 its for strategic rushers , DOW 2 its for combat tactical strategists.The "level" thing is only aplicable when you are quicker than your oponent in the "rushing" skill (better way to win in SC2).

@XibalbaKing That you are wrong, in SC 2, a certain level of APM (120-150 ) is quite enough to beat anyone (except those monsters with 400-500 APM but very few people can achieve that unless they just spamming ). And 120-150 apm is not so high, any average human with some training and experience can reach that speed. If you are someone with 50 APM, it's a different story, though. All you can do is building and attacking, you don't even have enough time for thinking, thus making the game boring

1. Some individuals need a constant action and a repetitive series of events to control their moves higher APM, cookie cutters.

2. especially early game a very high APM includes more incorrect actions then correct ones. (Note anyone who spams even once gives us a false APM measure)

3. Higher IQs typically will have a lower APM and still manage wins in diamond. Why, because higher IQ means better memory/decisions on timings, upgrades, possible moves, ETC.

And if you could not reach that basic speed any normal human could do, then don't hope to win in diamond league. I do not consider spamming and repeating meaningless things as an action so it should not be count in APM. In other word APM = Actions (that make sense ) per minute.
