A disappointing number of the responses to my comment can be summarized as "If we hadn't done it, somebody else would have done worse". I submit that's not a very encouraging basis for moral behavior. True, what's done is done, but at least we can hopefully learn from our mistakes. But we can't do even that unless we study history. Maybe this beautiful song will encourage people to learn more (as I did). Thank you, Brudda Iz.
(Deuteronomy 24:16) - "Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death for their fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin."
(Ezekiel 18:20) - "The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself."
@HaVVaiianaVVarrior Sad to hear you have had such negative experiences with white people, we are not all like some of the people posting on here. I'm not American though..lol.
June 26th, 1997 was Brother Iz's death date. I want every body who sees this message to watch his version Somewhere Over The Rainbow. IZ gave a lot of happiness to others through his singing, and music. On June 26th lets give IZ the best present he deserved, the way he gave his music to us. Get him the most viewed youtube video in the world!! Spread this message on to his other videos!
@Imakedoubblerainbows If'n ya wants ta talk 'bout bein' smarter, it's "P.P.S." -- not "P.S.S.". As for trolling just to get reactions.... It just proves that you really are full of hate.
Read about the history of Hawai'i. 20% of the population died from diseases brought by Europeans. Read about the Bayonet Constitution, and the overthrow of Queen Liliʻuokalani in 1893 by white business leaders and US marines. It's hard to be proud to be an American when the US did so many things like this in its past. Our greatness was bought with the blood and suffering of others. President Clinton issued an apology on the 100th anniversary of the overthrow. Like it means anything at all.
@Imakedoubblerainbows fukk yuu said bitch no diss hawaiians yuu fagget...yuu tink yuu bad ah talkin shitt on youtube ah fakkah bet yuu would neva say dat to our face bitch....try come keaukaha nd say dat shitt my lil braddah would lick yuu nd i goin lick yuur faddah....haole cunt
@Imakedoubblerainbows wassat? you make grunt noize ta im'tate Hawai'i lang'aj? Well, you know what they say: Them what cain't learn a language just make fun of it. Oh, and your oh-so-precious English is a mish-mash of German, Norse, French, Italian, Spanish, and all sorts of other foreign languages. "Ooga booga", indeed.
@xphobe I know it sounds bad but if we had not acquired Hawaii Japan likely would have and they would not have been so nice about it.Hawaii has a proud and wonderful history, just be glad it has and will survive under US protection.
@NOMADdaf Realy? And you know this because YOU were alive back in 1893? I bet you didn't know that the reason Japan became so not nice is that the Japanese politicians decided that if they wanted Japan to survive, then Japan had to become just like the good ol' USofA.......
@xphobe This is how capitalistic super powers conduct their business world wide. Violent colonization then manipulation of their resources and work force. Thankfully for Hawaii they were made a state instead of a third world offspring that houses our factories. Unfortunately this was an inevitable affect of globalization, if we hadn't colonized them, Japan would have. We all need to fight for Communism and assure that tragedies like this never happen in the name of finance capital again.
@Kroban3 Yes I see that your American History class taught by fascists worked perfectly. Now go back to your cave of ignorance and allow finance capital rip your money out of your hands and give it to the billionaires.
@Yankpats sorry, can't let this slide. Capitalism is private individuals peacefully negotiating business. It has nothing to do with colonialism through force by an aggressive State. The State's only legitimate role is to protect individuals from force and theft, not to initiate it. And I don't think we can justify an immoral act by assuming that if we hadn't, someone else would have. Japan would have to answer for their own crimes.
@xphobe Capitalism is far from peaceful. The bourgeois owns the major businesses and gets their politicians elected. They move their companies to third world countries not for scenery, but to avoid tedious labor laws of the USA. Capitalism is based on the manipulation and exploitation of labor and resources for the greater profit of the single individual. How is paying someone less than dollar an hour to make our shoes or iphones at all peaceful?
@Yankpats No, Capitalism in and of itself is not the big, bad bogeyman you would have everyone believe it is. It is when it is combine with GREED and total disregard for the LAW that it becomes that big, bad bogeyman. Perhaps if people would just vote OUT those politicians who continually ignore the People (and instead do everything they can to make sure only the Super-rich get the tax breaks), maybe then things will "turn around"......
@xphobe The state is there to keep the classes in check and keep one from manipulating the other. It is NOT there to dispense of the class differences but only perpetuate them. You think people who make less than 20 grand a year get together and decide who they want to promote for a office of power? Hell no. They work 50 hours a week just to put food on their table. The super rich dictate who gets elected and how they run their office. This is a fact. Capitalism was necessary but not any more.
@xphobe Sorry to keep the diatribe going but you dont understand how wrong you are. Hawaii's only chance at sovereignty was never to be found in the ocean. Even today we see that the super rich are willing to do ANYTHING to protect their precious tax break which affects them hardly at all while people across the country are losing their jobs. The same people who are getting tax breaks are taking jobs out of American hands and giving them to slave labor in third world countries. It's all about $
@Yankpats Yes, thankfully for Hawai'i it was made a state -- but unfortunately for the Natives, they were made into third-class almost-humans. Now if Hawai'i had been a European nation, with stone monuments and stone buildings everywhere, instead of a lowly "Indian" nation that happened to not use a lot of metal tools or have stone monuments and building everywhere.........
@xphobe Yes,I agree.Just like how the southwest United States was once considered Mexico and then took over by " Immigrants" which now call themselves "Americans".Then they had the nerve to build a border, put all the Native American Indians on reservations, push all the Mexicans south of the border and call it their land.To this day there has NEVER been an apology to those whose land was robbed from them. You are absolutely right when you say "It's hard to be proud to be an American".
@xphobe i kinda get it tht but not the most politicaly correct person so yea lik wat diseses? i thought eruporeans werent american i thought they were ya kno eropeans also whos clinton nd idkno bout u but im NOT proud to b american bcoz not only did we do tht but we caused so many wars & blamed it on other ppl & lied to ech other to get out of trouble americans hav caused so many ppl 2 shed blood tht i wish i wasnt american. weve caused SO MUCH trouble nd most people r proud of tht i am ashamed
This may tick people off but to me the only way to correct the mistakes of the past is to admit they happened and rather than the government trying to just push it aside they need to admit that basically the US government used underhanded tactics to conquer a lot of what is today USA. But the key word to follow is conquered. I'm srry to natives and such it happened but they were conquered and that's it. Even if it was an evil way to win we did win and thats it. Srry to the conquered nations.
@xphobe hard to be proud to be an American? Look at what so many other countries have done to people, an ethnicity, or another country. Even if the U.S. never took over Hawaii do you really think a country in the pacific wouldn't have?
i care

Why can't we all just listen to a song and ENJOY it?

@jmoney1095 It ain't Bruddah IZ that brings the hate -- it's the HATERS who bring the hate. They hate because their own lives are so empty.
