Well, I have to say japan has even more detailed recycling system. I think some developed countries*NA* should learn from recycling spirit from Japan and Korea.
Locally, they tried a recycling system. I live in a small town and there are small cities around us. But here in Ohio, they had these big green bins for recycling. But.... Instead of people following the directions, they just throw everything in the same bin. -__-
When I was in high school... We tried a recycling method, but the kids just didn't care!! No matter what was done, so ... The principal, teachers, board... gave up. Didn't want to waste time.
you know what? something complicate things to be thrown should be broken into small pices. if you throw a pen, you need to pull a spring out and recycle them both plastics and steel.
that's not all. normally we recycle things more than 10. even a snack bag and styrofoams.
:) Holland you exchange those big plastic bottles for coins at the store in germany they even do small bottles and cans in exchange of money :) and the rest of plastic goes in a special bag we need to put outside once a month same goes for paper etc. And then you have a green bin for vegetables and that kind of stuff and the rest goes into the gray bin.. and glass in a glass bag except for beer bottles you exchange that for money as well :)
"and the recycling is much better in korea than it is in canada"
caught my attention REAL quick, because compared to most countries canada's been pretty advanced in recycling! i mean, i felt weird going down to the states and throwing away aluminium cans because we always recycle those in canada. LOL.
Lol.. Now we don't have to separate our recycling. It just goes all in one big blue bin and the warehouses do the separation. I wonder if that's a good or bad thing. O.o
@et3naltwilight I guess it's easier for us but more expensive for our government... they probably save a lot of money having everyone spend a couple extra seconds sorting the recycling.
yeah, when i was visiting Korea, the hubby and i were impressed how clean it is over there. they have such a cool garbage and recycling system. With the regular trash, you even have to divide what type of trash you have ie. liquids and dry stuff. you have to drain the wet foods before throwing them into the trash. sounds complex at first but i guess if it's the only way you know, it's not all that hard. sounds efficient.
It's similar to what we use in Germany. We have reuseable (glas/plastic) bottles and recyclable plastic bottles, paper recycling, separate brown/green/transparent glas recycling, plastic/metal/ (packing for consumeable products), sometimes compost. And everything else comes to the "everything else" bin. ;)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Weird stuff.. The recycling system looks a mess! The best way ever to separate your garbage is: Recycle, Composte and Garbage. Just like in Seattle, it would be ridiculous if they send one truck to pick up only paper, than other to pick up the plastic.. This separation must be done after the pick up at a recycling plant
The recycling program in Toronto, Ontario Canada has recently got some MAJOR upgrades. We no longer have blue boxes(glass & plastic) and gray boxes (paper & cardboard), we have 1 large blue bin on wheels that holds all recyclables and a green bin for food products, which also allows paper towels, cat liter, feminine products and even diapers.
The amount of garbage going to the dump, black bin, has been greatly reduced.
Wow! I'm not far from Toronto, but we stil appear to be in the dark aes with our 2 blue bins and green bin (and picky waste guys that will leave your recycling and sticker it even if nothing is wrong with it, or throw it all over your lawn if they're feeling fancy)
Thank you, i have been looking for information on recycling for ages. I am planning to go to Korea in winter 2009 to teach English, and i want to try and be as prepared as i can be. Your videos are really helpful.
@mbrown187 um you sure? when I visited some of the midwest states they said that they just put everything in the landfill. I travelled for 1 month, and never say anyone recycle anything
@tokee1234567 I can't, and don't speak for all States in America but I know California does pretty well with recycling. I wouldn't say we do as well as Korea, but to bash the USA and make it sound like we don't care is silly. Can we do better? Sure and I would like to see it happen. But there's a city in Oklahoma called Greensburg where the whole city was rebuilt, after a devastating tornado wiped it out, entirely out of "green" products. And I'm sure there are other ex's like it.
@mbrown187 i know, but since the US is a "big" country with a lot of power, and since it's one of the developed nations, ppl would expect the country to be good in all respects. I was somehow disappointed when I saw that some states didn't even recycle at all, that's all.
Well, I live in what is considered a "Midwest State" and every person where I live is issued a recycling bin where we can set out our recyclables with the trash, and a separate truck comes by and sorts out the recyclables... So yeah, no recycling "centers" or anything like that, but everyone recycles at least some things around here.
@randommusicvideo actually... china is more polluent than usa... usa at least has some renewable energy...but china... good Lord... worlds products r like all coming from china ... imagine how many tons of CO2 is released each yr!
@xXkOrEaBrWiLsOnXx A lot of damage to the earth actually comes from the cows in the USA. Since the US is a HUGE. HUGE. consumer and supplier of beef, we contribute a lot to "climate change". Contrary to popular belief, if everyone just collectively consumed Less beef, it would do more to help the environment than buying a hybrid or electric car.
