I have such a hard time with these two. I actually believe that it is THEIR methods that can "convert" and then lead to those "straying away" Scripture states 2 simple things, one: no one can pluck you from My hand; and two: train a child in the way they should go and they shall not depart from it. These two go against "backsliding" or "straying away" One says: once you are there with God, no one will convince you of another way.

God is not going to roast most of humanity in HELL for eternity. God is LOVE, and love is patient, kind, and KEEPS NO RECORD OF WRONGS.
God is reconciling the world (Col 1:20, 2 Cor 5:19) to Himself through Christ, so He can achieve His plan of putting all things under one head (Eph 1:10). God will save all men (1 Tim 2:4), and all will be saved when every knee bows and every tongue confesses and SWEARS ALLEGIANCE to the LORD (Isa 45:22-23).
But the mistake is concluding justice = infinite torment. The bible quite clearly teaches punishment that fits the crime (many stripes vs. few stripes, Luk 12:47-48 for example).
God will be just, each person will get what they deserve. But God in His love, will eventually reconcile each person back to Himself (Col 1:20). If the rapist later turned to Christ, He would be forgiven right? Guess what Isa 45:22-23 says: ALL will turn to Christ and BE SAVED.

In reply to your 2nd question: No Jesus was not lying in Matt 18:8, 25:41, etc. But the translation is not correct. Jesus never once spoke of "eternal" punishment or "eternal" fire. What He speaks of is EONAIN or age-lasting punishment/fire. Do some research into the greek words aion/aionios. They are mistranslated as "forever/eternal" but they only mean an age or pertaining to an age (eonian).

And as for the Discovery channel, I will admit I happen to enjoy Mythbusters. They actually use testable and repeatable science, as opposed to evolutionary biology.

I have such a hard time with these two. I actually believe that it is THEIR methods that can "convert" and then lead to those "straying away" Scripture states 2 simple things, one: no one can pluck you from My hand; and two: train a child in the way they should go and they shall not depart from it. These two go against "backsliding" or "straying away" One says: once you are there with God, no one will convince you of another way.

Jesus was simply saying before Abraham existed I existed, which is true he did exist before Abraham. He wasn't refering himself to YHWH. The question they asked him was replying to his age not his identity.
Also if you look at how older bibles translated that text it reads: I have been or I always existed. Researching the greek will also help you to understand what Jesus was really saying.

A recent observation, other than god's perfect banana: The fact that I use a bible as a coaster.
1) It's interesting to have on the table, as an atheist;
2) It's rounded end cups in my hand;
3) The dimpled leather doesn't slip when I set it down;
4) It catches condensation from my beverage;
5) Taller than a coaster so my beverage is that much closer to my mouth;
6) In case of spillage, the pages are right there for emergency cleanup.
I mean Kirk, it's just perfect.

People say religion is a bad thing yet if you read the bible it talks about religion as a good thing. The book of James talks about pure and undefiled religion as a very good thing, to take care of orphans and widows in their distress, and other parts aswell. Curupt religion is what is not good but religion is not bad.

christopherlee92, the problem with your thinking is that there is no standard by which one can judge which religion is corrupt or not. There are 38,000+ denominations for just christianity, and each one says that only they are not corrupt. They are all just cults.

i find it sad,that so many comment on how they now why so many leave religion..They have no clue as i read on.We have people that are false Christians just makeing a fortune rippin off Christians like the Bakers have done,like Benny Henn is doing and others.We that do have faith in Christ today is because we are very strong hearted and know the temtations of today are much stronger than when Jesus walked the earth.2,000 years and to still have faith in Christ makes you one strong spirit of God

It's bogus. If religions were real and there was a god, I can say quite certainly you would have a higher rate than 10% sticking around.
The problem is, there is no one there to answer prayers. There is no god. No proof, nothing but coincidence.
After 20 years of searching for the evidence of a god, I realized I had wasted a whole lot of time.

Are you Calvinist or Arminian? I'm guessing Calvinist, as you brought up the alleged "context" of 1 Tim 2:4. That is their usual trick.
Calvinists have the most demeaning view of God: God predestines people to sin and then punishes them ETERNALLY for doing exactly as God predestined them. Then they have the audacity to suggest that this is "fair" and "just" and "loving". Is predestining someone to hell "justice"? Give me a break.

The problem is, if we assume eternal torment is true, the bible becomes full of contradictions.
God is Love, but will let billions burn forever.
God is reconciling the world (Col 1:20, 2 Cor 5:19), and wills to save ALL MEN (1 Tim 2:4, 1 Tim 4:10) but somehow fails in this mission.
Every knee bows and confesses - if one confesses they are saved... but not all are saved? HUH?

What's the context of 1 Tim 2:4? Who did Paul tell them to pray for prior to this?
God could send all people to hell and be just because we have all sinned and fallen short of his glory Rom 3:23
When he saves anyone he is merciful and loving Rom 9

You are kidding me - you think God is going to bust some kneecaps because some will refuse to bow? You demean God's image by suggesting it. Anyone faced with the raw presence of God will bow in His awesome beauty.
Read Rev 2:27 to see how the rod of iron is used. Notice the last half of that verse "AS I RECEIVED FROM MY FATHER". We all receive the rod of iron from the father at some point! It is symbolic of us becoming obedient.

God is not going to roast most of humanity in HELL for eternity. God is LOVE, and love is patient, kind, and KEEPS NO RECORD OF WRONGS.
God is reconciling the world (Col 1:20, 2 Cor 5:19) to Himself through Christ, so He can achieve His plan of putting all things under one head (Eph 1:10). God will save all men (1 Tim 2:4), and all will be saved when every knee bows and every tongue confesses and SWEARS ALLEGIANCE to the LORD (Isa 45:22-23).

Agreed, God is love, and God is just.
But the mistake is concluding justice = infinite torment. The bible quite clearly teaches punishment that fits the crime (many stripes vs. few stripes, Luk 12:47-48 for example).
God will be just, each person will get what they deserve. But God in His love, will eventually reconcile each person back to Himself (Col 1:20). If the rapist later turned to Christ, He would be forgiven right? Guess what Isa 45:22-23 says: ALL will turn to Christ and BE SAVED.

1) I'd like to see you tell someone who hates Christianity (such as a Muslim terrorist or an atheist like Richard Dawkins) that they will turn to Christ. I'd be curious what reaction they would have.
2) So Jesus was lying when He talked about eternal punishment (Matthew 18:8, 25:41; Mark 3:29, 9:48)? By the same token, was Paul (under the inspiration of God the Holy Spirit) also lying about eternal punishment (2 Thess 1:8-9)?

Point 1) is irrelevant. There are many people right now who will not turn to Christ. But when God reveals Himself, they will turn. Read Isa 45:22-23. We know it is ALL people because the next verse says EVERY knee bows and EVERY tongue swears ALLEGIANCE! It doesn't matter if they don't listen to ME or YOU. They will listen when GOD decides.
Notice they swear allegiance - an oath of loyalty, a sign of celebration and joyful praise and worship. All willingly worship Him!

In reply to your 2nd question: No Jesus was not lying in Matt 18:8, 25:41, etc. But the translation is not correct. Jesus never once spoke of "eternal" punishment or "eternal" fire. What He speaks of is EONAIN or age-lasting punishment/fire. Do some research into the greek words aion/aionios. They are mistranslated as "forever/eternal" but they only mean an age or pertaining to an age (eonian).
