I've tried the sketch and PoGo and all the others and they're All a waste of money compared to the STYLUS-R-US stylus. Stylus-R-Us stylus don'[t require any pressure at all and they have like 4 telescoping styluys that are awesome. I have the Entrepreneur and the New Jersey and OMG are they ever the coolest accessory you can get for the iPad. They're perfect for drawing and really great for note taking. Just Google Stylus-R-Us to find them.
So you're saying the ipod is no good for doing digital artwork? The only thing I see different (between the Cintiq and ipod) is the sensitivity in the brush control. You don't think the ipod can be adjusted for thick and thin strokes? That would be my biggest concern. Anyone?............I've used the Cintiq in the past, but can't afford one now that I'm laid off. The ipad looks like a good alternative. feedback please..............
@rob9232 Feedback? I've been replying to everyone as best I can. I'm not saying the iPod is no good (although it is pretty small), what I was attempting to do (bearing in mind this was before the iPad came out) was gauge how well the Pogo stylus worked, and if it was good ...(it was ok, nothing special) then the iPad might be worth the cash.
I can't afford to just blow the best part of £500 on something if I'm not sure of it either.
@MrVincentGoldman Yeh, a lot of people think I wasted my breath here. But my intention was to test the Pogo more than the iPod (and to find out if an iPad may be useful as a sketch tool). Perhaps the video is a bit mis-titled. ;)
As I said further down, I did say it wasn't a fair fight. A lot of digital artists seem to be finding the iPad ideal for laptop sketching and until Wacom bring out their own OS (can't see that happening) they'll never be any good for portable on-the-go work
It's true that there are "better" artists, but there are better people at everything. "Better" art is in the eye of the beholder. :p In my opinion I think the way you draw is gawwwgeeouuss. Chubzz is a poohead. >:p
@phonzie I only have an 8GB, but then I don't use it for much other than apps and music. If you've got the cash to spare I would think an iPad would be a better bet. I don't know how much the disk space affects performance, but as you can email the images to your Mac or PC it doesn't matter too much how much space you have. I wouldn't quote me on that though.
Canvas size is 1024x682 on 3GS iphone and 3rd gen iPod Touch.
why unconvinced! its like you're trying to say something : P , jk i've been thinking the same thing , the other day i was wondering to get an i pad instead of a cintiq,
ofcourse i know a cintiq is better, but i think not to long from now i pad can cactch up, or maybe that depends on the programs like sketch book and photoshop, thats if they ever do one for adobe or maybe painter
You did that on an iPod touch? Dammmn. I have to say, I've mastered my iPhone, and I use a tablet too, but there's no freaking way I could do that with my finger.
@AdamKaoru I'm not much cop with my finger either, which is why I tried the Pogo. But it's just too flimsy for my liking. However, I found a vid on here that showed you how to use #0000 steel wool and that works. Plus you can get a lifetimes supply of it for a few quid...
Using an iPod touch and a pogo stylus vs cintiq and a much better pen, to decide if an iPad is worthwhile for drawing doesn't make a lot of sense. You are using a small screen vs a big screen.
A better comparison would be a finger drawing on the iPad vs drawing on a cintiq. Of course you can't do a finger drawing on a cintiq.
I imagine that at some point someone will make a wacom size brush for the iPad. The pogo is too thin to be useful to people who like the wacom pen.
@lukyluie Well I did say it wasn't a fair fight ;)
Actually, I wouldn't say the Pogo is too thin, just too flimsy. The foam pushes down too easily and if you're used to using a tablet pen with tilt it's tricky (and disconcerting) when the metal edge of the Pogo scrapes on the screen. For what it's worth I think the Pogo is a great little tool, and the iPad is just the right size. For the moment though, I have my doubts. But then I just don't like painting with my finger....
Thank you for replying. Did you mean to use "was't" in your opening line?
I was just making the point that screen size and drawing implement matter if you are making a reasonable comparison.
I use a Wacom tablet and pen. I do not find thin pens comfortable. My preference would be the iPad with a Wacom sized pen. Do you have any alternative pen suggestions for use with the iPad? How does the Dagi compare in grip size to the Wacom pen?
@lukyluie I had to look the Dagi up, that's the first I've seen of it.Thanks for mentioning it, I may give it a try too. I agree that the screen size is not ideal for a comparison, my main aim was to see if the Pogo could work well enough with sensitivity and stroke with Sketchbook Pro to viable on an iPad. I most likely will get an iPad at some point now that the Courier has been ditched, but I'd like to find a more robust stylus. Dagi may well be the one. I'll see if I can order one to test.
@Testacojones Hmm.. not keen on the Modbook. I never buy used computer equipment as a rule and brand new (or converting my Macbook) is a fair bit more than a 12wx Cintiq. I get your point though.
@NinjaBeaverStudios I never bought a used computer before and just did with a Modbook. It was a very good deal at $1,224 and not a single scratch, the screen had a bad connection and it was fixed at $55 dollars. I have a Cintiq 12 but I wanted a true anytime portable tablet pc.
i would love to get a cintiq but don't have the scratch. i have a wacom but an old one that doesn't show video. i only have the iphone as of now. i do want an ipad but gonna hold out for 2nd gen. needs cameras.
i was actually more commenting on meachy saying he can't find anything to make the ipad worth the money. i think there are going to be plenty of amazing apps. i love all the apps for my iphone, but as a computer it's limited by screen size more than anything.
Hi, I don't have an iPad (yet). The Cintiq I use is a 12WX and retails in the UK for around £800. Pricey, but worth it if you spend a lot of time painting digitally...
i've already seen some pretty amazing drawings on the ipad and it's only been out for 4 days. check out what marvel artist jim lee did on it. if al you want an ipad for is to draw then yes it's a lot of money. but the SBP app for it is only $7.99, it's $100 for pc or mac. and i would think the app itself well get updates to make it work better. the ipad already has a few "pro" apps and now that developers are getting their hands on them i imagine there will be plenty to hold your interest.
@jaison1399@jaison1399 I saw Jim Lee's Joker, not bad at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing Sketchbook Pro by any stretch. In fact I'm always wittering on about what a wonderful programme it is. I have it on the iPod Touch, Mac and PC.
@jaison1399 There is a new version on the way actually, I was on the Beta testing team for the 2010 version (desktop) and have high hopes for the next version. There isn't an app that even comes close to it (in my opinion) for sketching & concept work.
I'm planning on getting an iPad, but suspect I may find Microsoft's Courier better for me. I have to have a stylus, I am hopeless at doing anything with just my finger. :D
@NinjaBeaverStudios check out the pogo stylus drawings that are being done with the iPad. it's not a perfect solution but it's very good with a little practice.

@Suzizan Hi, the brush settings for Sketchbook Pro are posted on twitpic here:
twitpic/2ilsre (I had to remove the dot com as it errors and there isn't enough room to post it all as text.
If you mean the iPod, I just used the standard pencil / brush tool from Sketchbook Pro Mobile.
