Heard this song this morning on XM Sirius channel 15 Studio 54 - brought back great memories. Love this song alot - great dance tune for sure? Swing or swing hustle and your wearing a 3 piece suit. By the time the song is over, you're soaked to the bone - insane. Park Avenue - downtown Milw, WI.
I see a alot of comments using the term " i used to..or back in the day ..I STILL do..play this, maby its just me doing it about 5000 times and hanging on to great moments in my life..dancing thru the club and given them that nod..i can be bold as a dancer ..to get 1's attention,,and the drinks seem to be there waiting 4 me to to cool off as a thank-you ..yes 'i like you.. alot!
i used to spin this back in the 80's as a DJ (which I still am) and loved this song and so much of the fun 80's dance music. The stuff today just isn't quite the same and so many fond memories! Listen, love, and dance your ass off! :))
@tiburon69 I also remember one of my friends loved this song. Her name was Sonia. We used to dance at the Sarak in Juarez, Mexico. It was the best of times. May she rest in peace. Love her. Adrian
@facobos1 My sympathies for your loss. My name is Sonia too...danced this in Mexico City and Cancun summer of '86 with my best friend Patricia...great memories.
For a while this was the number # 1 cut in the NYC clubs. You couldn't go to ANY dance club in NYC and not hear this cut. Of course, I remember the Mighty Paradise Garage breaking it first, as usual. Shep Pettibone is one of the premier DJs from NY and the seminal House era and I extend my props for this extended remix
I first heard in 86 when i was teenager......Next thing I noticed , I was going into the Tunnel , Palladium. ....in NYC.......So glad I was able to experience those days.....cant compare.
"What I feel for you is real" dag, when music was music. No comparison to today's music. Come on lets talk about the Palladium in NYC (dancing inside the house when this came on:), Zanzibar in Newark, Odells in B-more, Numbers in DC, The 5th column in DC, Devil's nest in Bronx, Bonds NYC, The Garage in NYC, Club 88 in E. Orange, Central State University (Maurader room), Classics in DC:) Wow! Not the best dancer in the world but it didn't matter. It moved you!!! Just being there was enough:)
THIS ONE GOES TO ALL MY BELOVED FRIENDS THAT I'VE LOST FROM THAT ERA........I KNOW YOU REMEMBER THIS ONE!!!!!!!!! MISS YOU & LOVE YOU!!!!!!! BLANCA.........
Amazing song! Takes me right back to the "Good Old Days" when WPOW POWER 96 in Miami WAS THE SOUND OF ALL THAT WAS GREAT! Driving up & down Collins Ave. with the radio blasting and the top down on my Sunbird....with the exception of NYC - there was no place better on earth !!!
@johnnyleith I was training with Dean Witter in '86 and went to the Palladium during January of '87. Was in the WTC exactly halfway in its glorious life. I remember people dancing up on enormous speakers. Also the Limelight.
Ooooooh.... that "church" piano! This song was big in San Francisco. I first heard it on the radio in late 1985, but it was popular into 1986. The the dance club DJs used to play it back-to-back with Sylvester's "Someone Like You."
1985, later summer, and it's the closing party of a famous Toronto dance club. It's just past 3, and the floor is full, not packed, but just perfect. No drugs, no booze (at least, not me), just pure dancing. And just when I think the mood can't get any better, this song comes on, out of nowhere. I was dancing with Randy.
If there ever is a moment I'm asked to recall upon dying, this song at that moment would be in the top three. I was transported in the way only amazing music can do.
@calvintoronto Hi and thanks for your comments they moved me and I have the same feeling about the moment this song takes me too. This song and American Love on my channel send me back! Thanks :)
@johnnyleith Beautiful. I always find that "discp people" share the best memories together in heart and spirit together throughout time. It is wonderful in this day and age. :) Thank you.
My friend Ron in NY sent this song to me years ago.. he said he was in a music store, heard it, and thought of me.. I was touched by that sentiment.. I love this song.. it's so full of love and sunshine... Rest in Peace, Ms Nelson... Love to you, Ron, wherever You are.......
After over 22 years I've finally figured out who sings this song - only to find out she died in 1998 of breast cancer at only 48...yikes. Well I too was in "dancing heaven" to this song at a little underage, non-alcoholic gay club in Oklahoma City, called "The Wreck Room" and DJ Brent made me a mixed tape with this song on it for $20.00 - it didn't have a play list so I never knew who sang it - and I wore the tape out and any dance floor back when I was 17/18 when this song came on!
Anyone going to the clubs back when this song was out definitely had some great memories. And yes, from 3:12 - 5:15 on the track where it goes instrumental was what really pumped up everyone the dance floor
@basseyboyfla OMG, the part from 3:12-5:15 is exactly why I LOVE this type of music!! I remember hearing that part in the clubs and everybody loved it! It really got people going...especially if one was x-ing
i grew up with a die hard hip hop family.... I was the black sheep back then listening to this wat my dad called crazy disco music.... but when I got this single my whole family joined in on this.... we use to pump this at BBQ's love it!!!!
This was the absolute jam back in the day. This song made you feel so good and happy. I am in awe right now. Thanks for the post. Yes I Like You. Where is Phyllis Nelson Now. We need to play this song everyday. Takes me back to the clubs.
1998. Breast cancer at 47. Didn't know until I checked the Wiki bio today. Last I remember, the song spent 8 weeks at number 1 on the Billboard Club Dance charts and was the number 1 club song of 1986. I bought the record back then.
My favourite bit is 3:12-4:12 It is 1 minute of heaven for me. Used to think I was dancing the Biz at this but on reflection I bet I looked like an Idiot! :)
I like this more than I used to. At the time I was pissed because it was a radical change from Phyllis's "Don't Stop The Train" disco day, but time seems to have been kinder to this record.
