What a terrific dramatic (and comedic as well) actress she was. She was so moving in this film. The studio (MGM) should have put her in more non-musical roles at that time, but Mayor obviously saw her only as just a big singing voice. Judy was such a rare talent that we will never see again.
Judy channeled her relationship with her father which is why this is so emotional. Her most beloved father and her love for him gave us this incredible Scene. SHE WAS GREAT!
Stanley Kramer produced and directed this film and Judy went on record to say "he treated me like an actress" - Judy had 3 scenes in this movie and was on screen all of 15 minutes but her performance packed enough raw emotion to bring her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She truely was a great dramatic actress but her talent as such was largely unrecognized as musical roles dominated her career. Judy actually turned down the lead role in "The 3 Faces of Eve"
i actually read in a bio on her that she had several takes of these scenes because she was in such a good mood that she couldn't make herself cry....ultimately, in the final scene, she delivers and boy, does this tug at heartstrings!! what an amazing talent!!
Yes, always wonderful! I love Judy. She had a very importance in this film. There are other parts too. Irene Hoffmann... She made a lot of her own life. Judy was entirely Judy here.
When I first saw this scene, I actually felt bad for the cleaning lady after she's been (what's the right word?) disgraced in court... Am I wrong to feel so?... :p Hehe...
i love judy in this... she really should have done more straight acting roles in her career. Maybe she might in her later life, one can only imagin. :(
this is the only thing that really is silly in this film - they do this earphone thing, but they all speak in English anyway......

Although there is no need to rank actors in this film, with so many good performances nothing can match the testimonies of Clift and Garland.

god, she is sooo good in this movie! I agree with sophiam1234, she should have done more straight roles, although I love the musical movies too ;).
