This same thing happens yesterday on my way home from work.. its very loud and sounds like someone put a loss piece of medal in the engine.. I need help with this issue ASAP, I'm in Florida Miami
I had two spark plugs blow , it does sound like that, not saying that's what is was. ford shorted us a couple of threads on the spark plugs , so they will pop out and ruin your coil pack and day !!
did you ever find out what the hell it was?? my car just started doing this exact thing yesterday!! let me know if you figured out what it was. thanks
ill tell you exactly whats wrong 99% sure its a spark plug blown out because its a aluminum block it will most likely happen eventually to all the 4.6 did to mine about 2 weeks ago, can be fixed for around 60 bucks at any shop dealing with engines, the engine must be re tapped and a something else has to be put in to make the plug fit. Alot cheaper then buying a taping kit could be around 200 bucks. Let me know if this helps.
that, that, well, that souns like an exhaust gasket... no really, something simple and easy. Go ahead and rev the hell out of that thing, it will buff out.
I have a 1999 v6 mustang, and my car does the same exact noise. I just realized that they didn't make the noise until after I changed the spark plugs. So, I was just wondering what you mean when you say, "the head shot the plug out." What is a head or a heli coil.
I have a 2000 gt as well and have the same damn problem you have. Your head shot the plug out. Get new heads or a heli coil. theres another kit specifically designed to fix this problem for that motor but its like 400 bucks. good luck. i have yet to fix mine cuz of lack of money. I loved my mustang till this shit happened.
The sound i am hearing is that of the spark plug, these have been known to spit a plug right through the coil above it! only poor design besides the plastic upper intake manifold. have a shop tap and die it, or replace the head , only two choices.
you have a bad rod bearing. I have a 2000 mustang with a 3.8 and I am going the repair process now, so I feel your pain. local dealership charged me $140 for a set of bearings ( upper and lower) and $10 for a oil pan gasket kit. Spend a day,not even a day, maybe 2-3 hours, and replace them yourself. its not hard to do. BTW,try to get Federal-Mogul bearings.
