Man...whats up with ppl and their straight lines...the quality of a car comes from its build quality, features and OVERALL performance...that vs some cheap, unoptimized, unstable, old, 1000+ HP garage "tuned" car...
With the performance you get out of this car there's no other supercar out there that can match it for the price, which is around 85K. Many cars with this kind of performance cost as much as $250,000.

what it wa wasa misscommunicaion between the japanese and americans when cars became available here in the states , american owners didnt read the owners manuals to see it was really a snow/gravel mode . and it reall was never offered. pretty big mess up , and i feel bad for any 08/09 models who thought it was launch mode. all i have to say is dont buy a used one....ever....buy it and keep it forever .

This is an awesome car. The launch control is removed in the 2010 model because people abused it. It's like neutral slamming an automatic at 4900 RPM's. How long do you think that will last.
@LiveLarger Your lack of education tells me that you have no idea how launch control works. First of all with the GT-R you slamming 4 wheels instead of 2 which is pretty harsh on the drive line. Secondly it was from 4900 RPM. Similar to a neutral slam on an auto. The system works, but when abused it can break. Other systems use traction control to reduce wheel spin. Unlike you I am a Nissan and GM instructor and have access to a lot more data and claims than you'll know. And yes I can prove it.
@LiveLarger The Porsche doesn't launch at 4,900 RPMs. It's more around half that much. Manufactures have to add things like rev limiters, traction control, anti-lock brakes, throttle control, etc. because we as consumers tend to abuse things.
No, you are wrong. The launch control on the Porsche Panamera Turbo is launching with more than 4K rpm. It really doesn't matter how you pitch this. It's poor engineering and nothing else. And removing it just means they aren't capable of making it. The Porsche is just an example. The Bugatti Veyron has 1K horse power, four wheel drive and a working launch control, same goes for Lamborghini etc etc etc.

yea that's true. It's a lil confusing. they can't advertise a car as having over 276 but some have up to 336hp ('02 Skyline M Spec Nur). I know that from playing Gran Turismo actually lol It says 276 before you buy it & then it tells you it's actual hp after you buy it. I like how they created their own class of sports cars & there were a few cars with more HP. The Tommy Kaira ZZII had 550hp but it was only a concept car. Some Supra's had 320hp btw

Did you ask for a copy of the Owner's Manual? Because there's no mention of Launch Control in there. Nor is there mention of it in Nissan's Official Website fo the GT-R (even the USA website, where you can also download a copy of the Owner's Manual)

You've got quite a bit of that wrong. The ZR1 is a track day car and a cruiser. The GT-R works much better as just a track day car because of it's harsh ride quality, noisy interior, and just the sheer size of the thing. The interior and boot space of it aren't that great compared to the ZR1 either. The ZR1 is NOT a hard core version of the Z06. The Z06 is the hard core version, the ZR1 is based off of the Z06 but made to be more usable everyday. The ZR1 is actually really good at cruising.

But no, you're missing the whole point. You shouldn't have to buy another car for cruising when Nissan flaunts how the GT-R is "rewriting the supercar rules" and says is able to be a cruiser.
Well that's another factor. The GT-R costs WAY more to maintain than the ZR1 does. An oil change on the GT-R costs thousands of dollars, and you can't do it yourself or use a different oil or you risk voiding your warranty.
In a ZR1, you can change the oil yourself and use whatever oil you want without any warranty complications (as long is it's the right type of oil 5W 30 or something). So for a simple oil change with the GT-R you've paid thousands with the ZR1 you paid under $100.

No, they actually can't. The only reason they were able to get 1000hp out of the R34 is because it had a cast iron engine block. The new GT-R has a block made of aluminum alloy.

Anytime you use launch control or turn of traction control, the action is recorded in the black box and the warranty is voided. 2010 has not removed the feature, they simply make the car launch at lower RPMs so it doesn't put as much stress on the gearbox. Without launch control, the GT-R cannot get an 11 second 1/4 mile.

Besides, the GT-R was never meant to be a dragster. It's a GT car (in Japan GT races have rolling starts, so Launch Control is useless in those races).

what it wa wasa misscommunicaion between the japanese and americans when cars became available here in the states , american owners didnt read the owners manuals to see it was really a snow/gravel mode . and it reall was never offered. pretty big mess up , and i feel bad for any 08/09 models who thought it was launch mode. all i have to say is dont buy a used one....ever....buy it and keep it forever .

@LiveLarger Your lack of education tells me that you have no idea how launch control works. First of all with the GT-R you slamming 4 wheels instead of 2 which is pretty harsh on the drive line. Secondly it was from 4900 RPM. Similar to a neutral slam on an auto. The system works, but when abused it can break. Other systems use traction control to reduce wheel spin. Unlike you I am a Nissan and GM instructor and have access to a lot more data and claims than you'll know. And yes I can prove it.

@LiveLarger The Porsche doesn't launch at 4,900 RPMs. It's more around half that much. Manufactures have to add things like rev limiters, traction control, anti-lock brakes, throttle control, etc. because we as consumers tend to abuse things.

No, you are wrong. The launch control on the Porsche Panamera Turbo is launching with more than 4K rpm. It really doesn't matter how you pitch this. It's poor engineering and nothing else. And removing it just means they aren't capable of making it. The Porsche is just an example. The Bugatti Veyron has 1K horse power, four wheel drive and a working launch control, same goes for Lamborghini etc etc etc.

No one needs an education to see that shipping a car with a launch controll that voids warranty and then eventually breaks down is suffering from poor engineering. Particularly when there is a hole lot of more powerful cars with a working system. There is no way around this fact. And for money.. Maybe in _your_ profession people are having a hard time buying a working class house, but for a lot of us that isn't a problem at all. 90K isn't even a years salary. People think if they watch tv, read a book, see a video, etc. they know all they need to know about a vehicle. But have NO clue. I like how you state: For a lot of us that isn't a problem at all. I kinda like the idea that japan had with making alot of cars with 276 hp as a sports car class but the fact that they didn't make any cars with more horsepower is fuckin retarded. yea that's true. It's a lil confusing. they can't advertise a car as having over 276 but some have up to 336hp ('02 Skyline M Spec Nur). I know that from playing Gran Turismo actually lol It says 276 before you buy it & then it tells you it's actual hp after you buy it. I like how they created their own class of sports cars & there were a few cars with more HP. The Tommy Kaira ZZII had 550hp but it was only a concept car. Some Supra's had 320hp btw

i got nuthin against the gtr, but what kinda track ? road track the gtr handles better and gets a better launch w/ the awd... but a track like daytona? the zr1 would chew it up... that was bad compareing these 2 cars against each other... made for 2 totally dif styles of driveing.. and ill agree the gtr is a more driver friendly car. you abuse the zr1 and it will show you it.. cant mash the pedal out of a turn, or your gonna be lookin at the wall. but the zr1 is just so powerful...

You've got quite a bit of that wrong. The ZR1 is a track day car and a cruiser. The GT-R works much better as just a track day car because of it's harsh ride quality, noisy interior, and just the sheer size of the thing. The interior and boot space of it aren't that great compared to the ZR1 either. The ZR1 is NOT a hard core version of the Z06. The Z06 is the hard core version, the ZR1 is based off of the Z06 but made to be more usable everyday. The ZR1 is actually really good at cruising.

Do the math, 104,920 - 80,790 = $24,130. Not exactly a $40k difference. Why don't you buy a nice cruiser for that price.
But no, you're missing the whole point. You shouldn't have to buy another car for cruising when Nissan flaunts how the GT-R is "rewriting the supercar rules" and says is able to be a cruiser.

Well that's another factor. The GT-R costs WAY more to maintain than the ZR1 does. An oil change on the GT-R costs thousands of dollars, and you can't do it yourself or use a different oil or you risk voiding your warranty.
In a ZR1, you can change the oil yourself and use whatever oil you want without any warranty complications (as long is it's the right type of oil 5W 30 or something). So for a simple oil change with the GT-R you've paid thousands with the ZR1 you paid under $100.

And no, if you talk about straight line performance almost nothing can beat the Bugatti. But because of it's weight it suffers handling problems. It also has some of the same problems of the GT-R such as size, ride quality, and interior noise.

No, they actually can't. The only reason they were able to get 1000hp out of the R34 is because it had a cast iron engine block. The new GT-R has a block made of aluminum alloy.

Yeah, but really who's stupid enough to get the GT-R stuck in mud or snow? If you put launch control in a performance car, you'd be stupid to think people aren't going to use it for launching the car for acceleration runs.

yeah true but the whole controversy was because some dealerships were voiding warenty if it was used more than 4 times.This is what actualy started the whole issue.Thats why the 2010 removed the feature.And it the car actually performs the mid 11s as advertised the launch control only knocked a lil bit out of the times

Incorrect. Anytime you use launch control or turn of traction control, the action is recorded in the black box and the warranty is voided. 2010 has not removed the feature, they simply make the car launch at lower RPMs so it doesn't put as much stress on the gearbox. Without launch control, the GT-R cannot get an 11 second 1/4 mile.

well thats what i heard from a friend but yea you sound right on that but on the interview with the designer they said they did somthing to it cant really remmber.You know all this stuff you should go to nissan and be a sales man haha

I wonder how these guys at the GT Channel actually got faster 0-60 times with the 2010 GT-R with VDC on (their best was 3.3 secs)

Besides, the GT-R was never meant to be a dragster. It's a GT car (in Japan GT races have rolling starts, so Launch Control is useless in those races).
