It doesn't matter if the switch is NO or NC you can use either as a kill switch in a guitar. If its NO you wire it so that it connects your hot output to the ground when pressed effectively killing the signal, if it's NC you just break your output and put the switch between the break. I have used both kinds of switches with success but prefer NO it produces no feedback or hum when pressed for long periods
Hey, I can relate to that, Ivor - good question. There's none at all :) There's no componentry other than a switch, which is not even in circuit when the signal is going straight through unaffected. When the switch is pressed, however, it sucks everything - and that what you want - nothing. :)
Hey, if I read you right, normally open is ok, bro. Wire on side to one side of your output jack, and the other side of the switch to the other side of your output jack.
When it's normally open, everything is the same as before. When you push the switch, you'll cut the sound. Let us know if you get it right. :)
@FunkyMando It would have to be a normally open switch to work right wouldnt it? That way, without using the switch you have an uninterupted signal. But when using the switch, then you would get the effect of the switch cutting out. Am I getting this right?
@clewi1091 No, it's a NC switch! When you don't press it, you want the signal to be flowing through it! NO switch means that the circuit is normally open ie, there is a gap in the circuit so nothing gets through!
Hi, thanks for your comment. Due to the character-count restrictions of youtube comments, I'll answer using consecutive comment postings:
Basically, there are two wires going to the output socket. One is the "live", the other is the "earth", or "ground". The switch is a momentay push-to-make switch. It doesn't click. It stays open until you push it. When you let go, it springs back and opens the connection again.
One side of the switch is connected to the "live" output wire. The other side is connected to the "earth". You can take the "live" from the master volume pot, or the output jack. When the switch is open , everything is as it was before fitting the switch. Push the switch, and you short the live to earth, which dumps the signal to earth - it doesn't make it to the output. All the alternating current, and voltage from the pickup/s has been dumped to earth, therefore the output is "killed".
I fitted mine where the tone control normally sits. The tone control is still connected, set on "full", and tucked away inside the guitar's controls cavity - I didn't want to drill any holes in my Schecter. You can choose any number of places for the switch - you could fit it to a pickguard, for example.
Fair enough. Only, there no Fender in this clip. ESP's are nice, I almost bought one.
I prefer a 1982 Schecter Custom built job, prepared under licence exclusively by Chandler's in London, and that's what I'm using in the clip. I assure you it's a lovely guitar, and one I'd never sell. It's irreplaceable, and I love it to bits. Oh yes. :-)
i have have a few of esps and a dean V although im not a huge fan of dean either, but it all sounds good through my line 6 4x12 stack, my fav gat is atm my ESP STD explorer with a custom fitted killswitch gota love it =]

Look in Google. You'll find many suppliers. The type to use is push to make. Good luck.

@clewi1091 Yeah, that's right. Make sure it's a momentary switch too, so it opens again as soon as you stop pressing it. :)

@clewi1091 Sure it's not an NC switch? NO switches are normally open if un touched which means no circuit!

@MrTrumanBrain Yeah I think youre right. I think I had that backwards.

i actually do play.
what exactly does the killswitch do?
does it "kill" the connection from the pickup wiring to the output?
