In September, 1988, accordiing to Leslie Stahl in her book, Rather told Stahl just before a broadcast he was going to scrap the lead story which was CBS's poll which showed G. H. W. Bush leading Michael Dukakis by eleven points. Stahl was scheduled to sit with Dan on camera and report the poll. "I know what you did and I didn't appreciate it," Rather hissed to Stahl on set after Stahl went over Dan's head to restore the story. The poll didn't fit Dan's narrative so it was to be ignored.

New York's top court Tuesday rejected AGAIN Dan Rather's breach-of-contract lawsuit against CBS. CBS spokeswoman Shannon Jacobs said the network was pleased with the outcome. Calls to Rather and to his lawyer were not immediately returned.
What a humiliating end to a tainted career. Rather spent his life debasing journalism, and now he just can't accept the reality that his own ego ruined him.
Nobody deserved it more than Dan. Here is his legacy.
