Ward wrecked Froch and the rest of the Supersix (ie the best SMs in the world) whereas Joe Calzaghe only fought 2nd rate fighters for all his defences bar Kessler. It's not about OLD, it's about PRIME. PRIME and OLD r 2 different things. Now, maybe Calzaghe wasn't in his prime, but he was damn sure more in his prime than Hopkins and Jones. The problem for dirrell is he has no chin at all and if he gets hit and he would have he is going to get koed. Calzaghe also has an iron chin and don't bring up the hopkins and jones ones because one was a forearm and one was a flash knockdown caught off balance.

Ward wrecked Froch and the rest of the Supersix (ie the best SMs in the world) whereas Joe Calzaghe only fought 2nd rate fighters for all his defences bar Kessler. I reckon Andre is the reason Joe retired, ehs a smart guy and has always made sure his opponents are too old or weak for him.

Calzaghe beat Kessler pretty convincingly, and Hopkins' recent win over Pascal shows that age doesn't mean jack shit. Why didn't Calzaghe fight Roy Jones earlier? Because Jones didn't think he was worth it. Until he fought Kessler Calzaghe was just the WBO champion at super-middleweight and Jones was a ring legend. Calzaghe beat Kessler when he was 30, Lacy when he was 26, Hopkins when he was 43 (And at the time Calzaghe was 37, so he wasn't exactly young) and Roy Jones Jr. when he was 39 (And Calzaghe was 37, so there's nothing in age difference in that fight) And he beat them all. Hopkins (Since his Calzaghe defeat) he went on to beat Pavlik, Roy Jones Jr. and is due to fight Pascal soon. So his age wasn't an issue. Stop hating on Calzaghe, he's a legend. End of story.

Consider if you reversed ages , Joe is 40 or 42, and Bernard is 35 and fit enough to outbox Joe for 12 rounds, not just 6, or Jones is pre-weight gain early 30s. Anyone with any sense would give the victories in Hopkins and Roy.

I would say that Dirrell fights more like Calzaghe than Roy Jones Jr. I also think Joe would have beaten Roy at any time in their careers. I know that isn't popular, but when they did fight, neither of them were in their primes. Joe is too fast, and applies too much pressure, and spare the nationalism, because I'm American. Even Kessler and Lacey hadn't reached their primes (Maybe Kessler, Maybe). But Jones was shot back in 2003 when he was 34 years old. And he still never gave Hopkins a rematch. End of the day, every UK fighter in the past decade has a tarnished legacy. Whether it's from not getting fights, ducking fighters, losing to people they're suppose to beat, quitting when the going gets tough. Whatever the reason, from Lennox Lewis to Joe Calzaghe u guys don't have much to brag about.

A rematch with Hopkins would've been highly publicized and would've made him the most money he ever made. It also could've been on PPV. When u think about it, he was coming off of a dominate win against Roy Jones, who is one of the most famous fighters around. And Hopkins was one of the top P4P. A rematch would've made lots of sense. First, I know most of Calzaghe's wins r by KO, but those r mostly TKO's, usually stopped by an accumilations of punches. That's common knowledge.

@JDezi4 Illl tell you why he will beat dirrell. Dirrell's advantage is his speed and calzaghe can handle that. The problem for dirrell is he has no chin at all and if he gets hit and he would have he is going to get koed. He won't be able to run from joe, styles make fights and calzaghe's is all wrong for dirrell. Calzaghe also has an iron chin and don't bring up the hopkins and jones ones because one was a forearm and one was a flash knockdown caught off balance.

Dirrell does not have a weak chin. Where'd u get that from? 1 Flash knockdown and a cheap shot when he was down. And in anycase, Calzaghe does not hit hard like that. Calzaghe on his best day couldn't KO Dirrell. Dirrell has more power than Calzaghe, and stylistically, Dirrell's stick n move style, Joe has never fought anyone with that style. And I doubt Calzaghe's chin is iron. It may be a solid chin, but it's not iron. I wouldn't rely on it if I were him.

@JDezi4 that is a terrible argument. anyone who knows ANYTHING knows that in boxing the heavyweight division is the division that is going to have more suprise kos. Calzaghe injured his hands thats why he adapted his style. Still enough to beat dirrell tho. I can't be bothered to argue with you so ill just say you're right about everything and even amateur american fighters can beat calzaghe in his prime.

@jabjabmove Fair enough LOL. Don't mind me, I like to debate things. I agree with the poor gameplan obviously by dirrell. He could have overwhelmed froch but froch is dangerous with that stiff power. I don't think highly of froch personally and as a fighter. I think he is just a strong man at 168 with the bone structure of a cruiserweight. Not sold on the chin either. I do feel that he fights alot smarter than people give him credit for.

@dhlfh Had the so-called granite chin froch looking stupid as hell the whole fight. You talk about that negative stuff but dirrell was the ONLY ONE LANDING CLEAN POWER PUNCHES. Sorry froch couldn't hit him whether he was running or right in front of him swinging. Froch's airball flurries stole him the fight. People give froch an A for effort but I give him an F for results like less than 5 power shots landed. Look at the fight. When dirrel is stationary, Froch is very hesitant and lost.

@Cowardzaghe Calzaghe would give anyone he fights problems. He is very versitile, fast and can throw every angle of punch fast. His cheesy inside style is like defensive offense. He throws all those slapping shots waiting for a counter and then he ducks and comes with his counter which is usually a hard shot, then he goes back to the slapping flurry and repeats the cycle. Anyone would have a hard time with that if they didn't recognize it. How can you work out that he couldn't be comp?

Calzaghe had his chance to be big, someone important, a fighter that could have achieved greatness by fighting Jones, Chad Dawson, Kelly Pavlik, Hopkins, Jackson and McClellan, but instead we saw Pudwill, Veit, Salem and many others like them. For me, that puts Calzaghe as the worst champion ever.
Why didnt Calzaghe fight Dawson and those other talented fighters? Good question, but only he knows why not
