  • Si, Mangini no sera como Portnoy pero, la banda tiene que seguir y creo que es un maravilloso remplazo!!!

  • Mangini can play all of the Portnoy's parts left side dominant or right side dominant, not to mention he nailed the audition with no warm up. He's been teaching at Berkeley school of music for ages. Not that technique and teaching experience rules all but come on. Tell me the newest album is not the best material they have written in a long time and I'll show you another Portnoy fan boy.

  • @drumdadio Well, presonally I preffer Metropolis pt.2, and I can put the new album on the seccond place of my favourites. Mangini is awesome, but I preffer Portnoy's style..

  • @justentime77 Hate to break it to u but Lang has no groove at all. Marco is very talented along with Mangini but they aren't dream theaters style. They're better just not fitting.

  • Hey everybody, it's MANGINI, NOT MANANGINI! For god sakes people

  • Petrucci and Portnoy are like a highschool couple dealing with their first breakup. They both want to get back together but neither of them want to admit they were wrong. So they hide it by saying they're happy with their new relationships, but you can tell they secretly still love each other.

  • The truth is Petrucci wants Portnoy back.

  • @rayenantheny And I suppose you know "the truth" because Petrucci told you this over coffee last time you guys caught up, eh?

  • I love the faces Mike makes haha!

  • Am I the only one who got distracted by A Nightmare to Remember in the background?

  • Mangini, Lang, Donati and Marco Minnemann are all better drummers then Mike.

  • I have the first four or so albums of DT and, finally, the latest, ADTOE. I always was kind of annoyed by Portnoy's unidimensional and boring drum style - tacka ta da tacka ta da tacka da - and I think that always hindered me to really enjoy DT's compositions and to become a true fan. However, I think that the new output ADTOE is great and the band really gained a lot from having Mangini. He fits seemlessly into the line-up and truly adds depth to the entire project.

  • I miss Mike Portnoy as well. However it seems to be DT will be even more interesting in the present future than ever.

  • i miss you portnoy..

  • Comment removed

  • I don't miss Portnoy's background vocals...geesh, enough of that crap was enough...

  • 2:18 best drummer face ever!!!

  • I've been to every concert! And I've watched every concert cd! And I love how Petrucci and Portnoy look at each other and smile have fun on stage!

  • I've been playing drums since 2, and just hoping to become the drummer that he inspired me to be! I'm 13 and ever since Mike left I don't feel the inspiration anymore! I cried for 2 DAYS when I found out he left! My dream is gone! I wanted to become an old Dream Theater drummer, not a new. The new Dream Theater doesn't feel right! My dad is good friends with Mike! And I live in the Soo! I still play Dream Theater everyday! I play Trail of Tears, Only a Matter of Time, I play every song ever mad

  • That's the problem though! Mike didn't want to leave the band PERMINENTLY! He just wanted a break cause the "Dream Theater machine" wore him out! I mean they have been touring for 25 years and it can become kinda stale at times but... He just wanted a break! Not a split, like he said in the Dream Theater forum! Dream Theater decided to let him go!

  • lol Mike Portnoy

  • " I wouldn't want them to all of a sudden have the songs have a different feel and a new twist ". That's exactly what I want, Dream Theater has become too formulaic and are too scared to explore.

  • i miss portnoy :( .. why?.. becouse i listen to dreamtheater since i whas about 4-5 years old.. now im 26 still listening.. i have herd all songs from all albums they play iw bin in several concerts in poland. .. bat wythut "MP" its not the same :((.. mike come back...

  • LOL to all the comments except aa998899aa....

  • @avilakaj He's just being honest

  • Dream theater is not the same without Portnoy.

Maganini is good, bit, he doesn't have the same feeling, I mean, Portnoy's feeling is DT's heart.

Just look at Hell's Kitchen part on Instrumedley, I cry when I watch the inspiration he gave to the band, when they all look each other and smile.

Sorry, but i cannot accept Portnoy's departure, and I don't like Maganini's style. Dream Theater is not longer the same. I can't listen it on the same way I used to.

    Sorry for my english.

  • @aa998899aa you're right brother. Mike was a big part of this ''soul machine''. I miss him too...

  • @aa998899aa

They're exactly the same. In fact, one could argue they're better.

MP was going more and more "Metal!" with their music. Without him, DT has gone back to being more progressive - more in tune with the style of music that drew people to them in the first place.

I think MP was drifting from DT, musically and personally, for some time. You can tell by his activities outside the band. His interests drifted more toward other things outside of DT. Him leaving proved that.

  • I have no trouble believing MP needed a break from DT.

I have no trouble believing DT didn't need a break from DT, despite MP's repeat claims to the contrary since he left. It's actually become annoying hearing him claim, as fact, that DT needed a break from each other, that their relationship was not good, meanwhile, DT releases their best CD in years, gets their 1st Grammy Nom. and are clearly quite happy.

It's like Portnoy's keeping himself in this bubble of blissful ignorance.

  • @MikeTVogel

Well, For me, it doesn't matter if a song of the last album is much better than another one from an older album, or if it is the best album on all DT career. I'm talking what I see on live shows; also, I think Maganini plays even better than Portnoy, and he was the best decision for the band, but it is just that with Portnoy, when I watch him playing, I feel his music and inspires me to 100%, and its like the principal figure of DT (for me); and I don't feel the same with Maganini...

  • @aa998899aa

cry some more you little bitch. theres nothing wrong with the new drummer. fuck you.

  • @DreadedLeopard I'm not crying, and you seem to be a bit ignorant to answer like that.

I just gave my opinion, and I never said that there was something wrong with him; I just compared their styles.

I also think that Maganini is maybe better than Portnoy, but I don't preffer who plays better, it would have no sense to compare those musicians by their technique and speed. The thing to compare is the feeling when they are playing, and I preffer Portnoy on that way, he mades me feel more the song.

  • @aa998899aa

You're just asking for too much from a new drummer. He's never going to be the same as the last one, but he's perfectly fine in Dream Theater. Your bitching has gone over the top especially considering the new album was great and that he plays quite fine live. Besides, if the band members found him fitting then you have no right to complain. Go find another band to go complain about.

  • @DreadedLeopard I never said that he wasn't, the album is good and the drummer is amazing, and he plays fine live; but it seems that you just heard and dont enjoy music in the way they feel it. I'm talking about the style and the spirit they put when they are playing.

I repeat: I don't think he is a bad drummer, he is also one of the best choises, I'm just saying he just doesn't transmit me the same... And stop talking like that, you won't change my mind and point of view. Sorry for my English

  • @aa998899aa He's not trying to change your opinion, he's trying to ask you to keep your negative opinions to yourself. Personally, I prefer Mangini.

  • @fragrenade1 Thanks for that, too bad I can't express myself in English, as well I sometimes can't understand exactly what the comments are...

What I'm trying to say is that I like Mangini, and I also think that he is better than Portnoy, and he has a great personality, but thats like he just doesn't connect me with the music on the same way when he plays. Everyone has their opinion, and thats good. I'm not trying to fight, I'm just also expressing my opinion. :)

  • @aa998899aa Absolutely the same here man.

  • @aa998899aa THANK YOU!!!

  • lol john myung

oh shit I messed it up
