Arguably the best movie in the history of short stories. Beth Sanford is phenomenal! Her grammar and punctuational skills are bar none. Her announcing of her lines are un paralleled. 2 thumbs up, the best performance Sanfords had in her career.
Last time i saw this, our family was camping out at KOA campground and in the evening they gathered all the kids into a community room and showed us this film as we sat in folding metal chairs, The adults got to have a little time to themselves. Must have been about 1970.
Another film we've probably all seen a few times in elementary was when a boy and his mom move out to the country and they meet a friendly witch who cooks blueberry pancakes. Anyone remember what that one was called?
good ole Weston Woods! I remember this from elementary school, and other films like it. Too bad kids don't get to experience 16mm projectors anymore. Having to look at TV screens, even though I assume some wealthier schools have flat panel TVs by now, just isn't the same as the huge image from a projector. I'm glad to see this copy has good color...ours had often turned red.
I saw this movie in the 3rd grade. That was during 1963, when it was released! I only remembered that a lady thought she lost her bracelet in one of the donuts. I did a google search and found this. Sure seems different than when I was a kid.
I also remember this movie from elementary school in the 70's. They were rainy day movies. We used to watch this, The Red Balloon and the one about the witch and the magic pancakes!
For some reason my mind decided all of a sudden to research an obscure book I read in the 4th grade, I didn't know there was a film adaptation too. I love that book.
@Sparksterfu haha, that is exactly what just happened to me!! I couldnt remember the name of the book, and so I looked it up on amazon. I also didnt know there was a film on it.... funny stuff!
Ha! I grew up in the 70s and can remember watching this on the film projector at school. I don't even remember the whole story, but the machine making all those donuts have been embedded in my mind all these years. This is as nostalgic as the Paddle to the Sea film we also watched at school every year.
Awesome, somebody has a copy ^__^ My friends and I ate donuts at at 24hrs place. The next day I remembered the movie. I watched the movie when I was in grade school.
Even as a kid of the '90s, this was one of my favorite books.

Cot Damn!
I saw this in elementary school in at least a couple of grades.
They still showed us this in public school up through the 80's.
I know I saw it for the first time in '89.
Thank you so much for posting this, I haven't seen it in 20+ years and my memory of it is so vivid.

@Salmagundiii Too bad adults will never get to experience compact LCDs and 3D screens when they were kids.
