  • Looking at various submissions on camcorders, I can't say I'm at all impressed. This upload and others indicate to me that you still have to be prepared to pay a substantial amount of money to achieve anything near what I would consider to be commercial film quality standard (beyond what I would be inclined to pay). This is not the case with a still camera outfit.

  • man, i would love to have a nice shoulder mount camera like this!!!!

  • I also possess a camcorder sony hd 1000 and I am very pleased with the results and 'should be used with a camcorder but enough light' but with the light goes really well hello!!

  • 0:49 whats the difference

  • @matthewsfsguide It's not really a like for like comparison. The image on the left is a closer zoom/tighter crop to the one on the right. The orange juice appears to be slightly richer and the table top deeper. There is a swing to yellow in those thinly cut curley green fruits. If you look at the table top on the left image there is a notceable difference in colour transition from bright white to light smokey red. Conversely, the right image has no reflective colour transition.

  • @sonicstep In terms of sharpness, there is no appreciable difference between the two images. Contrast is the main difference and may give the impression of a slightly sharper image with respect to the left HDV image.

  • Hello, is it that movie on the memory card

  • Hey i have got a question! When I wanna import the files from the camera to my PC do I have to buy a extra device or can i just buy some cables and connect it to my PC and import the files?????

  • @Giants544 al you need is a firewire cable, and a firewire port.

  • Can I record video in HD in the memory stick and transfer that to Final cut pro?

  • @lorddinaire Not with this model, but the mc2000u you can, same exact body, different codec.

  • no HD

    :(

  • @nottinmatterz2day that is because this is not filmed with the Sony HVR-HD1000. Maby it's filmed with a 'not HD-camera'...

  • My camcorder is equipped with two LED spotlights YONGNUO DYD 1509 for low light situations (they are really very good) A ZOOM H4N Stereo microphone and a tele converter lens Sony VCL 1.5 by 1558 with adapter ring works really well .

  • My camcorder is equipped with two LED spotlights YONGNUO DYD 1509 for low light situations (they are really very good) A ZOOM H4N Stereo microphone and a tele converter lens Sony VCL 1.5 by 1558 with adapter ring works really well .

  • I see it has a hard drive accessory on it is for video recording or just for the pics etc

  • @deadreaper999 most pro cameras for weddings cost about $20000

  • How does it take to import the videos to your computer?

  • Intence, educating

  • Where on this camera can you record with XLR lapel microphones or is it possible to do interviews on this camera.

  • @BrothaRollins no u will need an adapter thats one real con of this cam

  • Hi, is this camera able to record dirctly to a memory card instead of tape ?

  • @mcgabegraff nope

  • Hi i am looking for a camera that i can use to' make good music videos & short films..can any tell me which camera will be' best for what i want??? The camera gas to' be' around £500 to' £900??

  • @eTV55 This camera is good for weddings and events, but it has no progressive scan, If you want a camera that is good for music videos and short films, you'll be paying around £1600 or $3800. Look for progressive scan.

  • Is that Röyksopp?

  • this camera is so uncomfortable to use hand held as nothing can be adjusted properly

  • @XMintSauceX It isn't a hand held camera, it is shoulder mounted. It is comfortable, If you don't think so, it wasn't made for you're type of shoulder.

  • @tonyandthepigs How many types of shoulder are there then? You really cant take critiscim

  • @XMintSauceX Obviously more than one, My family, friends and I find the aforementioned mount perfectly comfortable. Or maybe we are thinking of a different camera do each other.

  • The only benefits i can see about buying this over the xr550v is that it looks pro and has bigger buttons and nobs etc. That's bout it, I'm gettin the 550v don't care if it's smaller.

  • @resington about the xr550v: It isn't as steady, but it has progressive scan. whih is worth the extra bit of money.

  • I brought this camera and it broke with little use. The reason was I brought it from an online company. Provisual Direct - don't buy from these people - They sold it as a 1000e but it was a Grey import - a 1000p.

I payed 275 pounds for a five year warranty which was a waste of paper. They refused to fix it, even when I sent it to them - they sent it back the same day in a different smaller box to save themselves money. Just a warning in case anyone thinks of going to those people. Thank you

  • @spellboundtube yea Provisual Direct only do gray imports, nearly bought a camera of them myself, but their lack of a phone number and dodgy evasive support made me shop somewhere else...

  • would have been better if they had bothered to make the video HD on here...

  • only 6.1 mp? how old is this???

  • @ieatyellow It's a video camera, not a photo camera.

  • I liked the video until those really ugly/fake/lame/corny/possibly drunk wedding actors came on.

  • I`m gonna buy that camera - if I can actually afford it.

  • Can you please tell me what's the optical zoom on these. The reason I'm asking is because somebody told me it has only 10X zoom but I see a 20X on the actual camera. Could you please let me know with more accurate info.

    Thanks a lot.

  • what kind of HD digital file is it? mts? mov?

    i'm considering obtaining this cam.

    thanks!!!

  • The only good thing in this camera is the 1COMS chip and the big camera which appears more professional, but its too automatic and even are not recording neither in 25fps nor in HD just HDV!

But the price is not bad (1500 euros)

  • Well, the camera is very small inside, it's actually a consumer camera inside of a big hollow body. But, I've had it for two years now, and I don't regret the purchase. Although the image quality is poor at low light and the mic preamps are noisy, the camera has many advantages. The nice big manual ring, space to mount wireless receiver, stability on the shoulder, I mean, what's not to like?

  • @dvamateur poor n low light? You know it has an open refrector dont you? Also you can regulate the entry of the light!

  • Does the camera have a Microphone input?

So you can have an extern microphone, usefull for a broadcast from an event.

  • how hard is it to get the mini dv onto pc and what format is it most liekely going to be in?

sucks you cant just record on to the memory stick it clearly has

  • @ImHomeAtLast : Its not hard you just connect the camera via Firewire onto your Pc and the editing programm does the rest... Also dv-Tapes are really cheap and you can easily archive them!

  • i think i'm going to buy one....

  • Very good beginnger camera, I think. And I am aware that it is a shoulder mount version of a consumer HC-7 camera. I've been using the HD1000U for almost two years now, and I've had a lot of fun with it. It has a very good manual ringh, and plenty of space to mount the light and wireless receiver. And I highly recommend getting the GV-HD700 deck with it. It's a great combo together. This camera is simply too big to lug it everytime to transfer video to the compuer.

  • okay

  • note the FIRST thing the video said, professional APPERANCE, not quality

    NP

  • Totally irrelevant observation: The couple in the wedding scenario is pretty unrealistic considering she's pretty hot and he's got a huge ponytail. That's all.

  • because this generation is and will advance more than what you generation did.. to old people is a profession.. and for this new generation it's simple a hobby..

  • Why little kids need a professional equipment camera?

  • could this camcorder record with sd cards

  • no that's for photos

  • lol YOU DIPSHIT! wtf you thinking.. its a fucking semi pro not a regular camcorder u buy for 200$ @ bestbuy

  • @Fakie135 well sry jackass im not used to camcorders like these and by the way im 13 and dont have money so i have no idea what can what record on and think first before u call someone a dipshit prick

  • dipfuck im 14 and i understand that shit and u dont ? lol omg ur iq is like 6 or something

  • ok mr clitterdick u dont have to be a queer about this shit i dont use this shit i dont reserch i just look at it fagget and get off my ass picklefucker

  • Would it burn you to know that's not SD but Sony Memory Stick.

Oh christ, 14 and you can't even fucking use grammar.

I'm 14, but show some respect 'dipfuck'

  • lol im swedish u fagget -.-

  • Who gives a shit? You still can't spell. I know many swedes who can use proper fucking spelling.

    'fagget' lol

  • XLR is audio output (proffessional).

  • It's also an input

  • Why are these sooo cheap?? I've seen them for $950 new. Are they junk?

  • no its pretty basic its just dot more of a professional appearence but they are still good.

  • @CraigsListandEbay Sony came out this the newer model the Sony HVR-HD1000U

  • The "U" is $1200, still pretty cheap.

  • My god your stupid.

    You are fucking dumb.

The 'u' signified the region/system it was designed for.

  • 950$?! I am planning on buying one, for 2,300$!

What the hell, tell me.. where is it 950??

  • i use this camera at work for corporate gigs etc and think it's a great bit of kit. You can easily and cheaply buy an external XLR adaptor, stick it to the bottom of the cam and there you go the main downside to this cam (no XLR input) is sorted, I'd definately recomend this as a cheap way to achieve professional standards, go for it!

  • Comment removed

  • I thin i will get this camera for christmas , but in my opinion the disadvantage is that there is no XLR... but is there any kind of XLR adapter for this camera that you can buy seperately?

    Please answer!

  • yes you can get a beachtec audio adapter and mount it on the side

  • google juicelinked.

  • what is XLR? sorry i dont know what it means exactly

  • not sure what XLR means, but it's an input which you use to attach professional microphones and leads. It has three pins or pin holes in it. (the other option, which is on this cam, is a phono input which doesn't accept good, professional quality leads and mics) But, you can but an external XLR input quite cheaply and attach it to this cam and bobs your uncle, you have a cheap, professionally HDV cam with XLR inputs!

  • kool thanks!

  • @AsianPersuasionDude

    XLR = eXternal Live Return

  • sorry but what does that mean?

  • Have they not just taken an A1 and put a massive body around it to make it look more professional?

And if it has no XLR's its not for me

  • we use this cam for events - the downside is there is no XLR input, but the good thing is we dont use it for sound anyway...

  • I would maybe buy this camera.

But is it worth the money or are there better?

  • The way I look at it is this. This is the best camera for $1500. The next best is about $3500, the next best after that is about $7500. The nice thing about going Prosumer though is you can also compare older used equipment to these and save a bunch of money. But if you are looking for the best new stuff, it is quite a leap to get any better than this in this price range. Only difference in this price range is if you want a smaller cam/hard drive, etc. If so, look4cams with canon lens.

  • Nasty little camera!

  • is there a good steadicam option for this camera?

  • does anyone know if this camera has a 720p mode?

  • Nope, just 480 and 1080

  • Sony could not have found more ugly people to play the bride and groom if they tried.

  • @PeterPW your mum?

  • @PeterPW Maybe they could have found you?

  • @webmatros i gues you are the groom?

  • @PeterPW LMAO!!

  • @PeterPW thats my wife and i you fucking kid!

  • @PeterPW The bride is kinda cute. :)

  • @PeterPW haha pause at 2:12! hahaha

  • Ive shot both with An EX1 and with tapes both have pros and cons with Hard Drives u dont need to worry about head clogs and logging and transferring is less time consuming but tapes give you a hard copy of the raw footage incase something crash's and batch capturing isnt hard

  • good point

  • How do you Iris up this Camera I didn't see an Iris ring?

  • change the setting on the menu screen

  • I look at this and I say "gimmick!" You get basic consumer features in a comically simplistic visual replica of a broadcast camcorder. For $2,000 you could get a great piece of equipment, this is not it.

  • What is a better camera for 2000$?

  • For about half you can get an HG10, which I swear by, then you could invest in a serious on-board mic and LED lamp for a much more cost effective (and much more portable) solution. If you want to go full size, this sony is nonsense, because it is not SOLID STATE. It's outdated. HG10 is solid state.

  • Yeah well what I dont like with little cameras like the HG10 is that you got no stability. Its great if you want to shoot a bbq or a family reunion but if you want to make a school project or anything :S. I want to go for a full size cam. Apparently you know that much more than me so fi you have any suggestion...

  • well fair enough, but what i did to get stability was to buy a tripod, again, you will need to spend about $200 for a GOOD triped (manfrotto, etc). I also bought an additional hot shoe handle that attaches to the base of the camera and several lenses/filters. By the way, walking with your camera and holding it by the neck of the tripod will create smooth shots.

  • Well I tried walking with camera while holding it by the neck on several occasions but I dont really like it as it takes a lot of place, especially when you're trying to film in public places..

If I had to buy my first pro/affordable camera, what would you recommend?

  • I am by no means a professional, but I would avoid anything with a tape. The reason is, if you are filming to a tape, you have to play back the entire data back on the computer when capturing it. Solid state is drag and drop video files, like a small digi cam drops jpegs via USB. Sony makes an on-board 60gig hard drive for this, but I believe its around $2,000. The only even remotely affordable solid state full size is the Panasonic HVX500, which uses P2 slots - but its still 3ccd sensor.

  • Bah, I dont really care if it works with tape as I take my time anyway when I do editing.

  • In that case, get a canon XH-A1. Absolutely. If I had $2k I would go to the store and buy that camera right now. Tapes frustrate me to no end, but if you don't mind, then you're lucky, because this camera is legendary.,

  • you can FF to the part of the tape you need and log and capture which is why it's important to bring log sheets and record your time code

  • Not true, go watch my video's they are shot on sony VX2000's. it is a amazing camera!!! would recommend to anyone.

  • sony VX2000!

  • I have the Sony VX2100E. but sure, I'm in Europe. I shot some amazing footage with it. Tape cams will always be better than the HDD / DVD ones. Because tape delivers raw footage, whilst the HDD cams compress the video as you shoot. My next step is Sony FX1000. It's the greatest thing if you don't have enough money for the Z5. cheers

  • Transferring with tape is a PITA though, and you have to stop recording every 60 or 85 minutes.

  • well then I guess that's just a small problem you'll have to get used to :D

  • Just a question, have you seen the difference in person between uncompressed tape and the same footage from an HDD recorder from the same camera? Just want to know if the difference really is that noticable.

  • yes, I have, and it is quite noticeable. But unless you're going for Pro video I don't see why HDD cams couldn't be considered an alternative solution for consumer video. cheers

  • christ theres a lot of stupid comments on here. A camera is only as good as the hands its in with few exceptions. This is a kick ass lil camera I've not used one, but from what I have read and seen this is a camera even a IDIOT can get good results. As a professional cameraman I wouldn't buy it, its single chip, exposure doesn't have a ring, and I find servo assisted focus just stupid - personal preference I guess.

  • what kind of tripod do you need for this camera?

  • any normal tripod will work

  • Does anybody watch Hell's Kitchen on FOX? Doesn't that bride look like that one girl? What's her name? Erica...or something.

  • Does this camera have 24p capabilities?

  • No, this camera does not have 24p, but the film look can still be achieved with good editing in post production.

  • wedding camera....

  • I've used the HVR-1000U since 4/08. It's a heavy camcorder & I get tired carrying it on my shoulders after awhile; some shots were tilted slightly - not framed properly - takes time to get used to shooting w/ it.. Getting up from a kneeling position w/ the camcorder on my shoulder is tricky - I've found myself looking upward to see the display/viewfinder & w/ my neck straining. I don't have freedom of movement as I have had w/ smaller camcorders. The camcorder is best used on a tripod.

  • Man. I could kill for that camera. If i win that fucking competition. I got enough money for it :D

  • Nice scene

  • Why the camera is never seen in front of the lens? Maybe for the hilarious design of a 54mm optical? Really, I prefer to make me see with a palm FX1 (but also any SD camera with same price) with a arm support and ALL the buttons and filters, rather then have a "look" and counted functions. I also have a HC7 (identical lens and electronics) and for that I excluded it from my shoppings, I picked a FX7 and I suggest it to all PRO users; hobbyst and dreamers can build a carrer with this box anytime.

  • it's just the most inexpensive HD camera AND the best in this price category!!!! only 3 months waiting and then i have it!!! AWESOME!!!

  • I'm gonna buy that camera

  • I have XM2 do you think HVR HD 1000E is better and i am planning to buy this camera

  • THis thing is a dud , I bought one recently , its not that great , and it feels cheap , its like a Sony imitation , I m very dissapointed

  • Where the hell does the charger go?! I can't find a single place on this camera to put it! Please respond quickly!

  • its on the back

  • Man, i want this camera!!!

  • Can someone tell me what to chose between SONY HD1000 and SONY VX2100 !!!

  • No comparison

VX2100 is the one to have

no camera has netter low light

the HD1000 in a cheap camera dressed up to look pro, with a good light its a great inexpensive camera

  • Thank`s man ! I took a VX2100 instead !

The problem is that the tape door ( exterior one) won`t open!

Has anybody had that kind of problem ??

  • Ive had it happen a couple of times.

push the button to open the door and at the same time give it a little push as if you were tying to close the door (doesn't make sense I know) you'll feel it release the door.

    good luck

  • the sony VX2100 is discontinued

  • why was it?

  • What's the difference between 1000e 1000u and 1000p? which one is best?

  • i think the e is for europe and u for usa and p i dont know ..there is no difference i think

  • P atands for PAL- but basicly it has 2 versions NTSC (U) and (PAL) (E)

  • Does anyone know what this video was shot with? I'm assuming the Sony HVR-HD1000?

  • what are you edit with?

  • How about you get a life, a girlfriend and some brain cells you dumb German prick, like you could do any better. JUst shut the fuck up.

  • i just love iris control in z1. is this iris control also manual with a knob or by menu?

  • This camera is manufactured on Sony's professional production line which is different from its consumer production line. It is built to a higher quality with better quality components than the consumer products. In Australia this camera is distributed through Sony's professional division and can only be sold through stores that sell professional products. It cannot be ordered through normal retail stores catering to the general public. Its features are kept to a minimum to reduce product costs.

  • Really?

    Oh DAMMIT

I was going to save for one of these for a couple of years (im far from rich)

and use it for my short films etc.

Do you know where i can get one if i can????

    PLEASE HELP

  • this camera is consumers is not professional

  • There is PAL and NTSC version available of this camera.

It's far from professional camera due to the control ring (practically impossible to change settings when shooting) and lack of XLR inputs!!!

But I think the quality-to-cost ratio is good for this camera.

  • Some people are quick to jump and compare this to smaller body cameras. You're missing the point. This camera allows you the stability of shoulder-mount, 2 cold shoes (try and fasten a 60w light AND mini HD to a smaller hand-held), plus the professional appearance - for half what you pay for those $3,000 plus cameras.

The added value you get compared to smaller body cams is worth it, considering what you get without the $3 grand price tag, unless you don't need the cold-shoes, shoulder/look.

  • The best cameras in the sony line are the z1, z7, v1, i think that they are all Hd as well. The V1 and Z7 record in 24p but i am not sure about the z1, also the Z1 is used by the Travel Channel for Documentaries

  • I use this camera a lot & I just don't like it. It's essentially a HDV Handycam encased in a big plastic box. Sure it looks good & turns heads when in public, but everything about it feels cheap. Also having to go into the menu to make adjustments to exposure, shutter speed, etc takes time & is annoying. That said, it's ideal for wedding videos (as shown here) or for high school students. Guess I've been spoiled by using to many Z1 & V1 cameras.

  • woaow interesting comment i ordered the camera and i am still confuse about it :-p

    Tino

  • If you want a good HDV camera, that's cheap & easy to use, maybe consider buying a Canon HV20. I used one recently and was very impressed by what it could do.

  • yes I know but the problem i need a big look for the documentary and shortmovies, I mean its all about psychology people who dont know anything about editing think a small camera means bad quality, its sad but true thats why i need this pro-appearance.. thx anyway my friend

    Tino from Spain

  • supersized fx1.

  • İyi bir kamera özellikle düğüncüler için.

    kameratamircisi

  • jest tell me this camrea is pal uk

  • Камера Суповика.

    Надо себе такую взять.

  • I just used my new sony cam yesterday at a live orchestra concert. The professional look of the camera was a big attention getter. It may be possible that some customers who aproached me for business cards were due to the professional look of the cam.

  • HVR-HD100E is in PAL and HVR-HD1000U is in NTSC.
