  • i cannot imagine how deafening is the silence in their monastery... since they took a vow of silence... :) thanks for sharing this video... :)

  • Quite funny - I might have to show this in church next week!

  • i dont why they think its fumky the monks are mute that isnt funny at all

  • @Tiger45695 Perhaps the concept of sardonic humor is best left to professionals to understand.

  • @Tiger45695 They aren't actually mute. They took a vow of silence.

  • hihi i got moneys

  • lool I'm a true expert of causing pleasure to people

  • I'm a Christian, and I think this is HILARIOUS!

  • lol Im your ANYTHINGGIRL. i am new, ask me i give you what you want

  • performance begins at 1:35

  • youre hillarious lol

  • the short one is the best LOL

  • I loved this video! I just saw it for the first time. Well done gentlemen.

As for the one who mentions it comes close to mocking Holy things, all I can say is holy to whom?

Holy's #1 meaning is "exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness" No where does it say Christian. One can think anyone or anything is holy.

  • @weirdschool Be careful saying that around Russian Orthodox Christians - St Basil (as in the cathedral in Moscow) did a fair bit of undermining the pomposity of religion and state to bring out the faith underneath, as did St Francis of Assisi in the Western Church. While many of these guys probably are not religious, it does no harm for them to make you question what is faith, and what is tradition loaded on top.

TL;DR: 'Messiah' may be drawn from the Bible, but it's not the faith itself.

  • Just one thing , "Sissies" does not exist in French , i think , the best translation is "Tapettes" , LOL

But i love this kind of iconoclastic mockeries, let the Christian fundamentalists spit their poison in the space and continue to amuse us:)

  • This comes too darn close to making a mockery out of holy things :(

  • St. Francis de la Sissies!? Oh yeah, that's totally not offensive at all! *sarcasm* DX

  • The worried-looking guy in the middle was a hoot and the short guy's timing was immaculate. " and " was very good too. Very good supratexting©.

  • The best one on You Tube...the execution of the card flipping was near flawless WHICH IS NOT EASY TO DO!!!!!!!! I am sure they practiced this over and over ...I think the outtakes from those rehearsals would have been fun to watch. Again, clever twists on what has been done AND wonderfully executed....going on my favorite list as Clever Ideas!

    cheers

dave m (former choralographer for PSGMC

  • What the last sentence stated because the back row closed with Ha le lu jah

  • @maitilodge

It said, Merry Christmas and a Happy Gay New Year, Thank you for watching. Wish it was a little clearer too.

  • GREAT WORK!!!!

  • On mp3 Amazon listen to Prayer of Saint Francis / Trooper Keeton ; that will help explain what it's all about Alfee.

  • Hey, I really enjoyed your video. 5 Starred it, if you get time please check out my Korean version Hallelujah Silent Chorus ("Hallelujah by Silent Black Masks"). Thanks a lot!

  • Brilliant, entertaining, and a great performance ... a welcomed addition to the holiday celebrations ... rest assured you have created many smiles ... : )

  • Skip the (appalling) intro: 1:37

  • Bravo!! They were awesome!

  • i love this video =D

"... and now we would like to perform the Hallelujah chorus, which roughly translates to: YAY! Jesus!"

  • so funny!

  • my chorus teacher is wanting us to do this at school.

  • This is by far the most polished version of this bit I've yet seen! I only wish the music track were louder and could read the cards clearly as I want share it with some of my non-musician freinds and I dont think they would get it as is. Is there a clearer version of this video to be had anywhere out there?

Seriously though, it's freakin great. kudos!!

  • That's accoutrement - among other spelling errors here! Very original performance! APPLAUSE!

  • @RoyalSnowbird 'Les Frères de St-François d'Assise' - is the proper name... unless yours is a pure invention as a comical version of the name . . .

  • @RoyalSnowbird indeed it is... simply a parody on it

  • Whenever I need a laugh - and just a super feel good moment - I return to this as a reset button for cheer.

I love talented people -- I love PGMC

  • Looks great - but cannot read the signs - poor quality (unless it zooms in).

    And cut the intro..

  • ingenioso, y descostillante. Véanlo. Un coro mudo.

  • really? Handel's Messiah is sacreligeous? .. ok so the silly spiel before the performance is unneccesary and overblown - but it is still very funny and well performed.. get a grip and get a life .. not the first time I've seen this - but still funny.

  • I REALLY LIKE IT!!! BRAVO!!! love from Philippines..

  • introduction: WAAAAAAAAAY TOO LONG. very good, though.

  • LOL!

  • AWESOMENESS!

Wow Robboholic... sorry for your loss.

  • terrible and sacreligious

  • @robboholic YOU are terrible and sacrilegous. this is hilarious!

  • I'm afraid the introduction 0:00-1:40 did nothing for me. The monks were very funny though.

  • I dare you not to LOL!

  • LMAO I nearly fell off my chair laughing at the little monk @ 2:35 LMAO!!!!!!

  • I love that

  • this is so funny!!!

  • BRAVO!!!

  • there's a better one and this one stole the jumping short person from it :(

  • That was WONDERFUL!!!!

  • Tooo fun!!! Make me laugh a lot

  • Me and the youth at my church did this. Its harder then it looks. Ha.

    I was the 'Lu':)

  • I have to do this for my school talent show I'm LE I thought it will be easy because I don't have to switch but I was wrong it is harder then it looks

  • full marks!

    滿分!

  • i just love the short one who jumps :)

  • @ravikavi2 GO SHORT PEOPLE!!

  • This is GREAT!!! I agree this is by far the best one I have seen yet!!!

  • Wow, I have seen a few versions of this and this one is by far the best. Amazing. My whole family enjoyed this video so much. Thank you for posting it!!!

  • very amazing ^^

  • Bravo

  • @MarioCavaradossi

If you see the date, the gays (2007) came the first!

Any way, both they were fantastic!

  • As we near our 1,000,000 viewing, thank you for all your comments. Just to clear few things up. The text part of the presentation was borrowed from our friends in LA. The monks are not from Molalla, but members of the Chorus. The final placards read Merry Christmas and a Happy Gay New Year. Thanks again and check our our newest original video, The March. PGMC

  • @pdxgmc

    hey

Do you have the lyrics for that?

Because we will do that in school :D but I don't always see, what is on the signs and hearing it is often difficult as well =P

  • @pdxgmc Portland Gay Men's Choir. that explains it. You'll have an ax to grind. So what better way.

  • Most of the people hanging around youtube can't read anyway...

  • If you just want the song skip to 1:38

  • thank you

    @dramajunkie07

  • Fantastic, Thank you for adding. Have good Christmas. I bid you good day!

  • OMG! That was HYSTERICAL! Thanks for Posting that!

  • Definitely one of my all-time favorites!!

  • Simply brilliant.A classic.Witty,funny,clever,and of course,good music.

  • Bravo! LOL

  • This is my Christmas discovery for 2009! Awesome - I'm so glad we can still find this in America! Merry Christmas!

  • I used to live in Molalla, holy crap. why did I never see this there? D:

  • haha this is great

  • I love the grandeous intro!

  • Does anyone know what the signs say after the final 'Hallelujah" is sung? Brilliant video btw!!

  • @letdoit4: I think the top row is "We wish You a" and the bottom row is "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year"

  • @jpmd4clu top row is still halelujah, u got the bottom row right.

  • It says; Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy "gay" year, then the short monk changes it to "new"...

  • Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

  • @letsdoit4

Women: "forever, and ever, and ever..." while the Men: "King of Kings and Lord of Lords..."

I hope everyone knows that every word is straight from prophecy in the Bible, written BEFORE Jesus' birth.

  • This is hilarious. I just hope someone re uploads this in higher definition.

  • Actually, it's the Portland Gay Men's Chorus -- an extremely tight, awesome, and hliarous choir. So not only can they speak, but they can sing.

  • Pretty poor. Intro is long and boring.

  • Intro not terrible, but word choice prioritized alliteration over accuracy.

  • i watched this at school in 4th hour

  • I symphathize with the shorty in the front row.

  • so there are about 6 of these on youtube. anyone know which one is the original?

  • Way too long for my attention span.

  • I watched like 4 of these, and yeah, they didn't need to take 2 minutes before they showed us the funny part... just put in the title "Silent Monks" I think people are smart enough to figure it out

  • To put the intro into perspective, it was played on a big screen while the "monks" were entering, so it was biding the time it took to get all on stage.

  • no, I get it, and if we were there it wouldn't bother us, I think the idea people on here are trying to say is it's too much reading for a place like youtube that is supposed to be about the videos...

  • i would totally crack up if i had 2 do this!! sooo funny!! =D

  • if it was me in there i would totally b the person who messed up!!! lol

  • That was excellent

  • Absolutely laugh out loud funny!

  • i really don't get it.. what's it sopost to be

  • The Hallelujah Chorus and I guess you don't get out much

  • Amazing! Made my morning!

  • I must agree with gaughan13...the intro is too long, but OMG!!! when it get's started it's fantastic!!! Well done guys!!

  • Just scan a head to 1:41!

  • Intro REALLY too long. I almost turned it off before the good part started. Very fun.

  • Sacrilège ! 0 étoiles!

  • I wonder how they organised to learn and practice this is they can't speak....

  • It's a comedy group! i guarantee you, they can speak. ;-)

  • hahahahahahaha i love the short guy....

our school is doing this at the christmas concert, and i get to be underneath the risers with "Lord"

  • This is very clever!! Very interesting!

  • I wish you could actually see the words

  • That was hilarious!!! I love the short friar who had to jump up to get his sign high enough... and the "King of Kings, Lord of Lords" switchover was great too- gotta love those catholics :)

  • Yeap. The guy who introduces the video reeeeaaaaally should take a vows of silence as well.

  • Like the high school version better.

  • Saw this done by a group in FL in 1996

  • Video was great... Once the rambling retard was finished verbally pleasuring himself. Just get on with it. An intro shouldn't last over 30 seconds, let alone 1:36.

  • Outstanding!!! Very, very funny, and very, very clever!!!

  • Would be funnier if the video didn't stall every 30 seconds.

  • that would be youtube or your computer, not the video

  • That's probably because you have dial-up

internet...Works fine on high speed internet.

  • No that can't be it because I have high speed wireless through clearwire. It worked just fine after your last comment.

  • Like the kids doing this better. (Silent Monks Singing Halleluia) This entry is boring but the musical part is funny. and come on St. Francis of Sissies? L.O.L.

  • You do realize it was a pun, since it's a gay men's chorus production?

  • then why do leave a comment

  • Because it's my right as an user of youtube to announce my opinion on the videos that are puplished here, and it's good to have criticism to "ones work" so that you can get a wider view, on what people think, instead of the same old Lol, so funny, omg i laughed so hard etc. Even though in my opinion it isn't even funny at all.

  • If all people had this kind of humor it would be a sad world, not saying that people shouldn't enjoy it, I'm just glad that there're still funny clips out there so that i can laugh, when perhaps you wouldn't.

Me giving the video a "bad" commet is the same as giving my commet thumbs down when according to you, people shouldn't announce if they disagree with something.

  • Awesome! I LOLed so hard!

  • Hallelujah!

  • Comment removed

  • The introduction is way way too long (the monks' performance starts at 1:39)....but a really clever performance.

  • HalleluYah!

  • Lighten up people...I'm a Christian and I think this is hilarious!

  • I don't think that they are "making fun." They are, instead, "making a joyful noise!"

  • They had to really practice!!!! Hilarious!!

  • mispeled acuotrements but fabulkous nonthlessss

  • hahahaha!!!

  • what do the bottom signs at the end say?

  • Have a Merry Christ Mas and a Happy New Year

  • Love it !!!

  • The spoken intro was a bit too long and a bit too tedious for it to really be amusing.

  • haaaaaaa

  • awesome xD

  • ROFLMAO!!!!

  • Très amusant !

  • all i have to say is: MASSIVE LOL!!!!! i could not stop laughing, that is so clever hahahaha that is awesome!!!! GO MONKS! =D

  • pdxgmc, what did the last row of cards say after the last "Hallelujah"? Also, are they really an order of mute monks?

This was a HILARIOUS performance, though! I, too, had tears of laughter streaming down my face!

  • Love it!

  • OMG THIS IS HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!

  • Hilarious! The poster boards were great. Especially the little monk who had to jump up for the high notes!

  • i loved this!!!! i just wonder what the last row of cards said after the last Halleluja!...?

  • Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

  • This is hilarious... and would have been even more enjoyable if the intro had been cut by at least 70%.

  • Comment removed

  • Definitely one of my all-time favorite YouTube videos! I had tears of laughter streaming down my face! Great job!

  • Who thought of this? Its brilliant!

  • i wonder how long it took them to get this ready....

  • ROFLMAO ! that was HYSTERICAL- thanks for posting it ! really enjoyed it....

  • just think of the hours of practice!
