THIS IS ONE OF YOUR FIRST VIDEOS>>>> elleskins, you are an amazing person, i had to go through 81 pages!!!! of videos to get to this. ive followed you since the beginning and im still following you. we love you man, never stop teaching. a year ago i couldnt even tell you what pitch was, and now ive completed my first 10 min mix. BECAUSE OF YOU!!! thank you elleskins. i wish you best of luck, and the world ( or atleast mine ) wouldnt be the same without you
good advice, but are you using two different records with the same tempo or do you adjust that after you count backwards on the second album and play it??
Good advice. Would be nice if you could include some graphics so we could see it a little better. I think its great for young DJs coming up. Keep the videos coming.
what i want to know, does this go with any kind of music?
i listen to hiphop exspacially rap will it go there the same way?
ive read here that another user asked you the same question and you told him from another video called: "How to count a bar, updated for 2007". well i think i would help me, but you removed it!?
yeah dude your question will be answered when you learn a little bit about music and timing, after that is not really hard to catch... good luck with it
god when i seen this video it helped me out soo much thnx man keep em coming haha now when im listening to music anywhere thats all i do count 1.123 2.123
Because he used the bar number as the first beat. i.e. [1]123 instead of [1]234. Personally i would count [1]234 [2]234 [3]234 [4]234. Also notice there are four fingers on each hand. Very handy for counting beats :)
I have 5 fingers on each hand, is that normal and will it stop me from being a good dj?
After a while you realise that 99% of dance music is arranged this way, so you nearly always find that something happens (chorus, break, rhythm change etc) after 4, 8, 16, bars etc. Knowing that gives you a cue as to when the next change will happen. After a while it becomes instinctive.
maybe its just me beacause i play hardstyle, but the easiest way is to "genereally" theres 32 beats before a break.. i do play house as well so it applies there to.. but guys wuth practice you learn to hear it in the tracks before it happens ;-) practice practice ;-)
lol im surprised how he could count the bars with 3 beats within he spaced it perfectly... i might have to watch the counting part again to c how u left the four out... real nice vid tho

i believe he's actually emphasizing the song structure... in which you plan your cue perfectly so that the melody/bass/vocals on the incoming song come in just as the melody/bass on the outgoing song ends
If i have an issue with my mixing/wondering why this and that dont work etc Youtube-Ellaskins=Problem solved!

This guy DOES know what he is talking about, and has a VERY good understanding of what he is teaching, and what difficulties a dj may run into.
There is NO mistake here, the basics of what he is saying is totally CORRECT.

Nice tutorial. I was trying to explain a friend of mine about counting bars and you came out with an easy way to do so.
Thou, the counting bars reversing the plate is exclusive for vinyl. I miss so much my turntables.
Keep the good work.

using logic and cubase at school (and learning music by ear) I can tell when 4 bars have elapsed. :)

[1]234 [2]234 [3]234 [4]234 so this is one full bar right?
FreekyZeeky27 4 years ago
Nope. It's a four bar phrase. One full bar would be [1]234 or [2]234 or etc.

how do you count the bars for uk hardcore?
jameeej 5 years ago
just the same , the only diference is the speed of the music. johnathan
ellaskins 5 years ago
if ur count in the bars in say a techno song do you count the bars the same speed as the beat or as slow as you do in this vid? thanks
malfroid 5 years ago
you will count the bars as fast as the song is. johnathan
ellaskins 5 years ago
In all of these videos you seem to calling 4 bars 1 bar. When you say 1,1,2,3,2,1,2,3,3,1,2,3,4,1,2,3 thats 4 bars. ;)

Very simple basic knowledge, but it amazes me how many people actually don't understand this. Another word for this - RHYTHM.

He is indeed - and it is vital to understand it, but there is a deep down basic Rhythm to a intro or breakdown that you get to know, track to track.
