  • Ha! I was spinning that record today. I still like watching the old vids.

  • @inchemwetrust What is it for a record he is playing?

  • This guy DOES know what he is talking about, and has a VERY good understanding of what he is teaching, and what difficulties a dj may run into.

There is NO mistake here, the basics of what he is saying is totally CORRECT.

  • know your vinyl

  • i always count 1234123412341234 in my head and i always know where the bar ends/start. it's not hard

  • Same: I find it less confusing. No offense to video maker, just trying to offer other options ot people.

  • good advice, but are you using two different records with the same tempo or do you adjust that after you count backwards on the second album and play it??

  • Good advice. Would be nice if you could include some graphics so we could see it a little better. I think its great for young DJs coming up. Keep the videos coming.

  • hey man ur really great :)

what i want to know, does this go with any kind of music?

i listen to hiphop exspacially rap will it go there the same way?

ive read here that another user asked you the same question and you told him from another video called: "How to count a bar, updated for 2007". well i think i would help me, but you removed it!?

can you give me some answer, please?

    greets kaese ;)

  • if you don't know what a 4/4 time signature is, you should go ahead and give up on DJ'ing...

  • Just about to say the same thing!

  • yeah dude your question will be answered when you learn a little bit about music and timing, after that is not really hard to catch... good luck with it

  • in house tracks, its almost always at each 15 seconds.

  • modjo - lady

  • great video.. wat is the name of the song u played? i love the song but never got the name.

  • Mate! Your vids are the best! Amazing!!!

  • god when i seen this video it helped me out soo much thnx man keep em coming haha now when im listening to music anywhere thats all i do count 1.123 2.123

  • Nice tutorial. I was trying to explain a friend of mine about counting bars and you came out with an easy way to do so.

Thou, the counting bars reversing the plate is exclusive for vinyl. I miss so much my turntables.

    Keep the good work.

  • Hey can there be different bars? (like 1*1234 2*1234 3*1234 4*1234 or 1*12 2*12 3*12 4*12)

  • to, leha696, to be totaly honest just so long as you stick to a format you can just about do anything.

  • Deejayrobbied

    ^

Because he used the bar number as the first beat. i.e. [1]123 instead of [1]234. Personally i would count [1]234 [2]234 [3]234 [4]234. Also notice there are four fingers on each hand. Very handy for counting beats :)

I have 5 fingers on each hand, is that normal and will it stop me from being a good dj?

  • After a while you realise that 99% of dance music is arranged this way, so you nearly always find that something happens (chorus, break, rhythm change etc) after 4, 8, 16, bars etc. Knowing that gives you a cue as to when the next change will happen. After a while it becomes instinctive.

  • every bars is called a segment

  • sorry, every 16 bars is called segment, right?

  • using logic and cubase at school (and learning music by ear) I can tell when 4 bars have elapsed. :)

  • [1]234 [2]234 [3]234 [4]234 so this is one full bar right?

  • Nope. It's a four bar phrase. One full bar would be [1]234 or [2]234 or etc.

  • maybe its just me beacause i play hardstyle, but the easiest way is to "genereally" theres 32 beats before a break.. i do play house as well so it applies there to.. but guys wuth practice you learn to hear it in the tracks before it happens ;-) practice practice ;-)

  • I go- 1234, 2234, 3334, 4444, 5555, 6666, 7777, 8888 etc

  • at the end of the day you need to do what is best for you. all the best johnathan

  • is it the same as going straight to 16 bars? please dont yell at me im a to this.

  • :45 to 1:00 would make a great YTMND x3

  • lol im surprised how he could count the bars with 3 beats within he spaced it perfectly... i might have to watch the counting part again to c how u left the four out... real nice vid tho

  • Because he used the bar number as the first beat. i.e. [1]123 instead of [1]234. Personally i would count [1]234 [2]234 [3]234 [4]234. Also notice there are four fingers on each hand. Very handy for counting beats :)

  • great video!

  • Very good method counting. This video is a great stepping stone.

  • gosh..great stuff man...im learning allready..keep them coming..

  • what is the songs name ??

  • i think is mojo...

  • how do you count the bars for uk hardcore?

  • just the same , the only diference is the speed of the music. johnathan

  • if ur count in the bars in say a techno song do you count the bars the same speed as the beat or as slow as you do in this vid? thanks

  • you will count the bars as fast as the song is. johnathan

  • In all of these videos you seem to calling 4 bars 1 bar. When you say 1,1,2,3,2,1,2,3,3,1,2,3,4,1,2,3 thats 4 bars. ;)

  • thank god for this vid

  • Wicked tip!!! never thought of it this way

  • Hi, could you possibly tell me what record you play in this video? Thanks and great video, I love them all :)

  • Hi, the record is " lady" by mojo

  • thanks so much for the track name

  • Great stuff mate! Very well done - lots of stuff to go and practice now :)

  • Very simple basic knowledge, but it amazes me how many people actually don't understand this. Another word for this - RHYTHM.

  • i believe he's actually emphasizing the song structure... in which you plan your cue perfectly so that the melody/bass/vocals on the incoming song come in just as the melody/bass on the outgoing song ends

  • He is indeed - and it is vital to understand it, but there is a deep down basic Rhythm to a intro or breakdown that you get to know, track to track.

  • very nice..congrats dude

  • I want to Thank you for your lesson videos,It help me with my mixing techniques . I hope to see many more in the future. :) good job

  • Thanks!

  • exellent well explained
