Man, thats my dream job. But isnt the descent a bit too fast? the glide slope barely finished announcing 50 before yelling 30 o_o idk i might be wrong because i have had no pilot training T_T
@djknightmare666 Not so mate, he's getting the aircraft set for a GA if he needs to (runway infringement by vehicle, etc) -- good airmanship, not bad. Generally, when you've finished with an MCP mode on approach, you set it to whatever a GA would demand.
because when you're passing from reverse to idle aircraft consider that it is a go around and retract spoilers, so doing that pilot maintain spoilers up and engine are on idle, spoilers and brakes finish the job to stop aircraft without an excessive nois (like reverses)
that is not correct, because spoilers don't go down when you just set reversve back to idle or close reversers again. Just when you advance thrust levers from idle spoilers would go down.
It was just to disarm the Autobrakes that the captain brakes manually...one way to disarm the Autobrakes. Other one to turn the switch to off, but then you should lean forward a bit to reach the switch.
@zlindriver thanks for responding. However, are you sure it was the autobrake? It looks like he's confirming the speedbrake and spoiler. I would imagine the speed brake being closer to the landing gear lever.
As I wrote, one way to disarm Autobrake is to partly close the spoilers. The captain there moves the lever of the spoilers a bit forward and backward just to the point were his disarms the Autobrakes. And speedbrake (spoiler) lever is far away from the landing gear lever. The system is the same on the 737. I would assume that the captain wanted to make a smooth stop with manual braking rather then with autobrakes.
Bala i wasnt asking anything, i think someone else posted something saying "this wasnt visual you can see him setting the autopilot" or something along those lines... i cant remember now haha
The project is about 20 years old but still preatty modern and competitive. This is one of the most successfull planes ever built and that's the reasons it still flying in the most important airlines. Just curious: Her substitute is yet coming but you bet the 767 will be flying for a very long time yet. What is good is for ever.
Yeah...He made that look like landing a Piper or Cessna at the local airstrip! Brilliant.... You can see why airlines want experience when they hire pilots...NOT just a type rating on the licence.
when huge aircraft such as this flyvisual approach, they don't just fly out of their dscreen do they?- using the PAPI to guide them down , or do they follow the ils down without engaging the A/P? would a B747 ever do this (at heathrow)?
If you don't already know, the PAPI is only used for vertical assistance during the approach.....I find it quite helpful regardless of the number of lights. Just my 2 cents.
no no i know what the presicion approach path indicator is but when your trying to put down a 747 right on the fixed distance makers can be difficult, all i wanted to know is how a 747 pilot sitting 8 meters in front of and 10 meters above the nose wheel can put a plane that large down on a runway just using his eyes so accurately
This might sound dumb, but it's not just using your eyes. You use your eyes, and your hands, to learn how to compensate. It's really hard to explain until you do it yourself.....but it's just like driving a car. You just know what to do. I call it instinct.
i fly pipers from time to time and its easy to get them down on the ground as they are quite short with a small wingspan but i always wondered how a pilot can get a heavy and land it as if he were landing a cessna
He set idle the reverse on nose up (manual job) and did just few seconds after. Just in case he re-armed the airspeed brakes @2:00. I f is was not "just in case" he probably had some problem on the speed brakes. But I think he JUST wanted to PILOT.
what qualifications should you be aiming for if you want to be hired by an airline whether for sponsorship or self funded training? ITs it possible to be hired without a phd in physics. COUld you be hired without a phd
The 777 can be handled by a single pilot if needed, take for instance this incident,a captain was unwell and advised by a doctor on board to take some pills, by accident the doctor gave the captain sleeping pills and the captain was soon snoring in his seat only to wake up laying in the airport medical center.
It's called crew resource management... each pilot performs certain duties depending on whether or not they're the flying pilot. Maximizes effiency and safety and helps to handle such complex machines... much more to it that having someone there on the off chances one dies out of nowhere...
Possible and legal if it's not a jet and its MTOW is under 12,500lb. Otherwise the aircraft needs to be certified for single pilot operation before it can be legally operated by only one pilot. Some small jets such as the Citation Mustang are certified like that, but never a transport jet the size of a B767. Is it possible though? yes I believe so.
Sorry I was not calling you a retard, what I was saying was that you retard the thrust or move to idle position at 10 feet above the runway when you are in a position to land. You retard as in You idle thrust, not that you are a retard. Regards
You retard at 10 feet above the runway and as soon as you touch down reverse thrust, brake and apply the speedbrake. Braking is usually controlled by the autobrake function.
btw ? is there anyone into classical music ? I'm trying to figure out who originally wrote that. I heard it before but cant seem to figure it out. thanks for your help.
