  • First song that sounds better on ytube than on GTA. radio

  • Thumbs up if you heard it in gta IV

  • Gene Hunt bombing down decaying streets to sound of this was like a trailer for GTA in itself. Fire up the Quattro!!

  • its no joke- it kills me... another essential track on eternity`s playlist

  • coole musik.

  • Brilliant.

  • This is a bit out-of-the-ordinary for Killing Joke (particularly as this was their first release). Either way, still one of my favourites. Ahead of its time for '79.

  • Turn To Red - Killing Joke [Notting Hill, London, England] - 1979 - "The BEST song off this compilation? My personal 'style' meter swings from British Punk to New Wave on this band. Outstanding guitar HOOKS. Good first impression." - Laugh? I Nearly Bought One! (Editions E.G. Records)-1992.

  • What a trip. I would've never thought this was them.

  • What i wanna do is buy a good Bass guitar and play the Bass of this song.

  • Finally, they all turned me on to Reggae. Although not a Rastafarian, I did finally connect with our common Biblical Christian heritage.

  • "turn to red" is Jamaican slang for smoking ganga. Getting "well red".

  • @jippytheclown lawd have 'mercy' respect: )

  • PIl led me to Wobble, Levine ,Martin Atkins, 4" be 2" and KJ. KJ led me to Brilliant, Peyr and others. I was young and influential, searching through music for the answers to lifes mysteries. It didn't work out as I had hoped. Humans are humans, no matter what forum they have for expressing their "search" as well. There are other sources that have been there from long ago and are just as relevant now as then, even more so!

  • Jack, what a bore u r. Such a busy dj/producer with such a full life taking his time to put down the little people who happen to appreciate KJ's early dub experimentation. I liked it then and I still like it now.

  • I'm dj and this song always open my set

    Great DUB f*** song

  • Marked!

  • it's twice subscribing, and it seem that something is wrong in you tube. Anyway, i have nothing to subscribe to you twice, and to this vidéo 1 OOO OOO OOO time ...

    ;-)

  • subscribed. I hope it's not twice. One of the best song ever, almost 20 years before what others have copied from it :D

it's not a remix, I think, but it's the original Sp, and don't seem to me as remastered. I will look for the original, but turntable is quite dead now

anyway, I know it by heart, and I'm sure it's not a remix, at 95% of luck/chance

  • @frenchyfries4you i'm thinking this might be re-mastered if not re-mixed. Some of the guitar phrases sound a little cut off at the end and there seems to be an extra sound effect near the end compared to what I remember from my original 10'' double B side original.

  • @noworldorderforme

May be you're right, I can't listen what I owne for now :( Hopefully, there is the net :)

  • @noworldorderforme Have the forty-five with the skip-track @ the end.

  • @noworldorderforme Have the forty-five with the skip-track @ the end.

  • This is bank robbing music...

  • @AerialDreamz True?

  • @AerialDreamz AHAHAHAHHA

  • @AerialDreamz Why do think it's in GTAIV? lol

  • CLASSIC - So ahead of it's time, I loved it every since

  • @guthywoodry im sure the music made sence back in the day

  • This track is pretty much Delayed. Therefor Quite Dubbed. Nonetheless pretty, no, Whorthwhile to turn on my Stereo and my amplifier and yes go red

  • This song makes it on to my top ten all-time favourite songs. Just SO good. Thanks for posting!

  • hippy song

  • From the grat 10". Still play it: Nervous System, Turn to Red, Almost Red.

    Great stuff !

  • Post-Punk....i hated that label! in 1979 'punk' was heading towards a dark age. As far as i was concerned bands like Killing Joke were taking it to a new level where as the soon-to-happen mohawk/studded jacket bands went against what it had all been about... Sun-reader punk rock! Killing Joke were the real deal!

  • @jak12321 dont answer a question you cannot answer correctly ;) its post punk some classic shit

  • Comment removed

  • thanks for this one,

  • what genre is this?

  • @davo623 Techno.

  • Kinda predates techno by about a decade... post-punk/early goth/industrial is about as near as you'll get for Killing Joke, they were so influential.

  • This is like Post-Punk style music, especially this song being from 1980!

  • "What genre is this??".......Four lads who shook the world....

  • @Xythantiops hippy

  • post-punk

  • wow i cant believe this was made in 1979 it doesnt sound like a late seventies track

  • @BrawlyProductionz this isn't the original version ;]

  • @MProoth it practicaly is.. this is just a remastered version. this was way ahead of its time..

  • @BrawlyProductionz ACTUALLY IT DOES xDD

  • @BrawlyProductionz but ok generally the JOKES were ahead of their time...

  • Can you post Almost Red too, from the same 12" ??? would be very happy, can't find it anywhere on You Tube

  • Of course. Already uploaded it; check it out under my videos. Any more requests, just ask. :)

  • @tehkittehs How about tomorrow's world?

  • Perfect high music

  • @achmed909 all I can say is... Amen to that...seriously this is one of those songs that feels psysically good when your kerblabled. And fuck, i am indeeed kerblabled.

  • got this 12 " single. wow!!

  • i have this one on a 10 inches, and 7 inches, didn't know about a 12?

  • @alexdelaville OK, could have been a 10'' but I am old and i don't have it any more!!! :)

  • Heard this on Ashes to Ashes. Can't get enough of the drums and the bass! Awesome song.

  • just listen to the bass line and the guitars delays , this is a perfect dub room you wankers !

  • the wiked tune ever !

  • just to ad something : this song was released before their first album in 79... so, gta and all computer things were not even in a dream... This song is really 25 years in advance on our time

  • thanks, one or may be the best , because all others influences where not born at the release time ...

Punks have changed the way the music is, that's a fact...

  • GTA IV Electro Choc. Cette musique est géniale!!

  • GTA IV, GTA IV, GTA IV \o/

  • OR how about. Shut the fuck up and listen to the song and stopping about the godam genre.

  • This is Electro-Choc-Choc-Choc-Choc-Choc... love it

  • Influences of this song:

    Dub (obviously)

Punk (I would say post punk but this song is definitive in the genre)

    some Bossa Nova

    Disco

Also, every one of these genres have their own specific influences.

What it does not have is Electro influences since electro didnt exist in 81... at least not as its own definitive genre.

  • Cruising through liberty city at midnight with this song bangin

  • thats the way to do it!

  • @fujimofo are you sure it aren,t peds slamming into our car?

  • this sounds like raggae

  • Im waiting for the day when genre isnt important anymore

People just listen to the music, why you have to fucking argue every time about things that dont fucking matter?

  • Listen to this man.

  • I`m agree!

  • So it's YOU that needs to do the research dumbfuck.

Furthermore, rock n roll started out on pian's. And virtuoso's started out in classical symphonic music.

    case closed

  • The fast playing of punk, alternative, metal, and thrash all come from guitar players like LINK WRAY, AND DICK DALE. NOT FUCKING BLUES YOU DUMB MOTHER FUCKER.

LOOK UP DICK DALE ON YOUTBE. HE WAS DOING NOTHING LIKE BLUES AT ALL WHATSOEVER IN 1960.

Neither were les paul, duane eddy, or most non-blues guitarists. The blues is just twang twang bends and lazy shit, it has fuck all to do with modern music.

  • Dont really get what all the debating is about, its a good track. Who cares whether what may or may not have influenced it. Clearly it does sound very much like 'dub' with the delays on some of the sounds. If you cant recognise that then there must be something wrong with you.

  • Cool. Haven't heard this one in years.

  • Killing joke channelling PIL.

    Brilliant.

  • this comment goes to clashboy and the rest of you cussing eachother ............ITS JUST MUSIC YOU FUCKING PRATS...... im a dj/producer and i could say quite alot about the whole subject but unlike you lot i have a fucking life .......

  • good gracious, I heartily second that.

  • @jackelnhyde

I believe this is what you would call irony.

What is a dj/producer doing on youtube?

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Jack, I know your dj/producer life is full and your precious time is important and costly. I can't understand how you found the time to search out and criticize persons who appreciate this stage of KJ's musical development. Personally, I found it influential when it came out and still appreciate it now!

  • clashtoy has a small penis.

we all know what john lydon said that the clash were a bunch of posers.

and reggae had fuck all(nothing to do with punk).

  • Reggae had a lot to do with punk thanks to Don Letts.

John Lydon - and Crass - were right about The Clash though.

  • Don letts affected the clash, not the sex pistols or most of the punk bands. VH1 documentaries with don letts are a fraud.

  • Hi my name's clashtard and I have no friends. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

  • the 60's are over retard. real men smoke cigars.

  • Whoa. Just Whoa. This song is just Whoa.

    [Whoa = masterpeace.]

    Who else thinks its Whoa?

  • What a cool song

  • ' nervous system' 12" is magic.....especially this track! pity they didn't do an album's worth of trax at this time!

  • Hard to believe this was made in 1979

  • u can hear a strong influence of dub reggae in this song!

my brother has this EP on vinly. i listened to it in his house it is amazing!

  • nah, more like disco. 4x4

  • i've listened to reggae but the timing drum beats are a 4x4, that is classic disco or if we want to be anal about it, techno like kraftwerk's kometenmelodie 2 or kristalo from 1973

  • attn dumbfucking loser with an iq of 50....

reggAY is fucking stupid, pointless and for ghetto tards and trailer trash losers. killing joke is inovative and original. THE BEAT ITSELF IS A 4X4 KICK DRUM AS IT IS ON THE DEMO. IT'S NOT OFF TIMING IN THE LEAST BIT. TECHNO AND DISCO INFLUENCED THIS THE MOST.

the echo effects have been done in 50's surf music FAR before reGAY even existied you rebarative fuckTARD.

youRe a poo sniffing faggot ball licker. buy some more neurons you fucking LOSER

  • and while you're at it, graduate jr college you inane, obsequious, simian queer.

    case closed

regay rips off the great surf echoed sounds of duene eddy, the shantays, dick dale, etc. etc

  • Clashboy77, you haven't nary a fucking clue as to what the fuck you are talking about.

This is very comon 4 by 4 disco beat. It's the same beat timing that they call modern techno. If you're are too inept and retarded to undestand that and somehow think it's a reggae 16th beat then you are clearly a delusional dipshit.

Please kill yourself you pathetic Loser.

  • hey idiot. did i say this song had a reggae beat? no. learn to read.

too a 4/4 neat is a standard timing beat not a "disco beat". ANY KIND OF MUSIC CAN BE 4/4.

your just too stupid to understand that this song is obviously influenced by dub reggae. go listen to saturday night style by mikey dread!

and either making up a new profile/getting your friends into this arguement is patethic!

  • your the fucking idiot.

reggae is guitar and bass on an off beat. can be any time signature.

and disco can also be any time signature not a soped up 4/4 beat.

    CUNT!
