  • Hi, I'm hatching duck eggs myself, and I'm wondering if it is ok to candle the eggs after day 25, or will it harm the ducklings?

  • @xxxchaz13xxx you really shouldnt because it will cause them to dry out by taking them out because days 25-28 are lockdown days. i was risking it in this video a little bit.

  • @URAbunnylover2 ok, thank you! :)

  • @URAbunnylover2 really? my cayugas aren't internally pipped yet and today is day 25. i read that days 26, 27, and 28 are lockdown days.

  • @PwnToob i read that days 25-28 are lockdown days. tis one hatched first. the other ones hatched on day 26. khakis hatch early because they were already 2 days old by day 28

  • Hi 1 out of 5 of my khaki campbell ducklings hatched all of them were fertlile it is the 30th day

  • @Nikkie3V Usually, Khaki campbells hatch on days 26 and 27. Sometimes if they dont hatch, that means they were mispositioned. I had 2 mispositioned eggs and one didnt hatch. one did, but died 3 days later.

if you want to check if they are still alive, you can take the egg and place it on a hard, flat surface. if it moves, its alive.

  • Are you supposed to spray the eggs during hatching if the hatcher is a chicken?

  • @Nikkie3V i wouldnt, but you can spray the bottom. dont directly spray on the eggs. again, you dont have to.

  • Well like you said you never know.

    Thanks.

  • So it's alive?

  • @Nikkie3V if you see veins while candling it, it's alive, they are just harder to hatch. usually thin-shelled eggs dont make it, but you never know

  • No not when I candel them when I do they have veins but the grey one is coulored all the time.

  • @Nikkie3V oh really?? its probably just thin-shelled then. like, you can see the air sac even when u dont candle it? yeah, you cant control that. the egg is thin-shelled. usually thin-shelled eggs have large air sacs

  • OK, One egg out of 5 is black or grey except the air sack the others are white is the grey one normal?

    Thanks

  • @Nikkie3V it sounds like the grey one is normal and the white one arent. do you mean ALL white?

  • One more question, Why are the other ones white and not like the greyish black one...Thanks

  • @Nikkie3V are you talking about candling the eggs? I dont undersatnd

  • What if the duck egg is completley greyish-black coulored all over except the air sack...Is that normal?

    Thanks

  • What if the duck egg is completley greyish-black coulored all over except the air sack...Is that normal?

  • @Nikkie3V yeah thats okay. sometimes you cant even see the internal pip, this is just an example of one that you CAN see. on most of them, though, i never saw this, and they hatched fine.

  • I have one duck egg that my pet duck layed and abandoned. THe duck eggs was growing fine. Today is day 22 and the beak is in the air sac and i can hear pecking on the egg. IS the baby too early, or did i take the date wrong. i didnt start keeping count until a while after it was abandoned. Maybe i marked the day wrong on my calender bc one week early is too much. Did i mark the date wrong? or is it going to hatch a week early. I'm almost 100% sure i got the date wrong. what do you think? Thanks

  • @ciciironwill27 yeah, duck eggs pip early. this was probably day 24 in the video. my eggs hatched on day 26, not day 28. ive never had duck eggs hatch on day 27 or 28, its always 25 and 26.

  • tht cool thanks for the info

  • well i got muscovy duck eggs and i think for all them to hatch take 35 but some mite hatch on the 28

  • @ledbetter761 Yeah ducklings are a little more spread out on the actual hatch date when they are incubated artificially. When I had chickens they all hatched on one day, but my ducks all hatched between 3 days.

  • the one's u got r they muscovy

  • @ledbetter761 no, these are Khaki Campbell, they normally hatch in day 27. Ducks internally pip 24 hours before they hatch. This is a video of what it looks like when they stick their beak in the air cell and take their first breath :)

  • so they hatch on the 28day or 27day

  • @ledbetter761 They should begin hatching between the 26 and 27th. IT depends on the type of duck. Call ducks hatch on the 26th, while moscovy ducks hatch on the 35th. mine began hatching on the 26th, but weren't all out until the end of day 27.

  • cant see anything

  • mine, still aren't at this stage

    :(

  • @MrNelrockz in fully mature eggs, you aren't supposed to see anything but darkness except for the air cell which is what you see here.

If your eggs don't look like this, then there may be something wrong
