Hi guys sorry if this seems like spam but my band are hugely influenced by MTB and we'd love it if you checked out our tracks over on our channel and let us know what you think? Our EP is free to download too (link on our channel page) Thanks! x
This is my favorite song by MTB, the line "We can Catch the last boat out, cause its the best one" makes me shake, I listen to this song at least 30+ times a day.
brilliant song. i think its a better making love song than sex song though. Don't ask the difference, you'll know when you're there.... and you'll be listening to this song :)
Oh man first people start using letters to talk to people and express feelings, then it moved to the telephone. Then came the internet. Sites like eHarmony and shit. Crazy right? Well here's one you would have never guessed. Youtube! The world's new unofficial dating site!
@Zerhino highly refined pirates was a fucking fantastic album...absinthe party, women we havent met yet, get me naked 2, every single song with "long, stupid titles" are good
given that their music gets more progressive with each release, how the hell have they sold out? i can't help but think that this is what i know about being gigantic would appeal to a much larger majority than planet of ice.
Last time I checked it cost me less than 20$ to go see them live. You dont pay only $20 to see a band that has sold out. Bands that have sold out have millions of dollars and play in places that fit 50,000 people. Not in small venues that fit 500 at the most.

THey've drastically altered their musical style to appeal to a larger audience is what im saying. They should go back to being dance rock instead of this.
@yogurtman321 lol not many people listen to this specofoc type of music trust me im the only one i know that listens to these guys in my whole skool. maybe its just not popular here but still.....
I love minus the bear so much, one of the best bands ever. They a simplistic style to their lyrics, however, it makes it have a genuine feel to it, like this was exactly what he was thinking at the time. All in all, this is simply breath taking.
how do you figure they "sold out?" it pisses me off when people say that cause they have no idea what they mean by "sold out." its a useless term to describe any person who has sand in their vagina because one of their favorite bands was in a commercial.
They didn't sell out at all. Last time i checked NOBODY i know still knows about them. They deserve to be richer, but then 12 year old girls would love them. So fuck that shit.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
sampling beautiful but the lyrics are cheesy on par with something as gay as incubus, crass.and at 1.15 it goes well wrong, still a good band just very very uncool these days...girl slow down
Minus the Bear has always had "cheesy" lyrics. It's Jake's writing-style. He keeps it very minimalist, especially in the earlier albums. The few words he includes in a song could be full of meaning or they could be some silly little phrase he sings simply for the way the words sound, not what they mean. Lyrics don't have to mean anything. It's a good approach to writing a song; It's not the meaning of the lyrics that matter but the vocal tones/harmony that compliment the instrumental sounds.
I've lived in the San Juan islands for almost twenty years. Its funny that this song is about our island, but its cool. Yes the pig war did happen here, but its a flopp..no one died but the pig. Really the pig war is near nothing haha..but the tourists seem to like it.
I am SO happy I found this song. It makes me think of my girlfriend...This song is as beautiful as her..I'd love to walk down the aisle with her to this song. :x
Apparently I cant post the link but for trivia's sake, the actual Pig War (via wiki)...
The Pig War was a confrontation in 1859 between American and British authorities over the boundary between the United States and British North America. The specific area in dispute was the San Juan Islands, which lie between Vancouver Island and the North American mainland. The Pig War, so called because it was triggered by the shooting of a pig...The pig was the only "casualty" of the war
During the years of joint military occupation, the small British and American units on San Juan Island had a very amicable mutual social life, visiting one another's camps to celebrate their respective national holidays and holding various athletic competitions. Park rangers tell visitors the biggest threat to peace on the island during these years was "the large amounts of alcohol available."
I used to live where they are singing about, Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. We would always ride our bikes to the park where the Pig War 'happened'. FH is just on the other side of the island from Roche Harbor. Also in the San Juans are Orcas, Shaw, and Lopez Island. Very, very cool area.
The two paragraphs are from wikipedia, but it seems I can't post the link.
this is an AMAZING song to see live. I saw them this past november in Atlanta and I remember this vividly. When he hit the base drums i felt a deep thumping in my chest. the light show went perfectly with it. It was truly a surreal experience.. Im so glad i found it. Ive been looking for this since the concert..
jeez i hope there new album is alot more along the lines of "highly refined pirates" and "menos el oso" like.. lets face it planets of ice was good but nowhere near as good as their old stuff with dave creating all those intense guitar tapping songs like "thanks for the killer game of crisco twister" and "monkey!!! knife!!! fight!!!". they are getting too sofft for my liking..jeeez i hope the fame doesnt catch up to them, like i know a band like this cant put out the same album every year
I disagree in that I feel while those earlier songs were good, they were juvenile in that the sounds were repeated. In Monkey!!! after you heard the first verse, you heard the whole song. On Planet of Ice, the songs were way deeper, you can't tell me that Double Vision Quest wasn't some of they're best work yet!
Um....I'm totally not down with rob's alien, what i know about being gigantic, by far the best minus the bear song. This one though....quite good. This band has fantastic imagery that is able to take me places no other music can even touch.

Beautiful.
kaetaris 8 months ago 4
@kaetaris
Agreed, it's also quite subliminal and can be taken many ways.
"Never danced with anyone" -> Making love instead of sex
"She moves so/so well." -> Speaking of the profound effect the two have together as one.
