The special effects are very run of the mill. Some are outright laughable. I don't know why the director looked to the South Koreans instead of Hollywood for help in this area.

Hollywood is the standard setter, whereas the South Koreans are only good at cheap knockoffs, no exception here. Bad decision by the director in this regard.

Not quite the Saving Private Ryan standard. But not bad for a first attempt for China. Hope it gets even better the next time around.

BTW, am I the only one who thinks there's way too much crying in this movie? It got a bit unnecessarily repetitive. Emotion sometimes is better portrayed by humor rather than tears.

這部片會是經典,片尾的處理尤甚.最後集結號的響起,催淚效果真­絕.在台灣我聽過很多老兵,在國民黨崩解前跟九連一樣英烈感動故­事.但台灣影壇可惜了沒有搶先拍出集結號,我認為集結號的延伸是­一種敬業守職的表現,對於信仰與同伴無私的付出,類似兄弟連,雷­恩大兵,對於身為中華系統的子民看到這些先烈付出,比看同系列洋­片更能感動,雖然是身為國民黨員的我但激動一樣的
