I used to get f*cked up at frat parties and forced into listening to main stream BS such as Dave Matthews, Madonna and all the like.. not only til I got home at 2 am would I turn of MTV AMP and the REAL PARTY would begin! Thanks for posting!
WOW...IF YER SEEING WE'S 3/10'S OF THE POPUATION THEN YER WITNESSING SOME OF THE BEST MUSIC OF MANKIND...THIS IS MORE THAN MUSIC...THIS IS LIFE...IT DOESNT GET MUCH BETTER...I HOPE I SEE THE COMEBACK OF GOOD MUSIC LIKE THIS BUT ILL PROBABLY DIE BEFORE WE SEE A COMEBACK OF QUALITY MUSIC...RIP REAL HIP HOP...they dont make dnb/jungle like they used too...rip...
The first drum&bass album I ever put down money for is we's "as is" album, as well as their recent album at the time "square root of negative one", as a direct result of seeing this exact episode of amp.
all these years later, still very much in love with the left-field d&b sound.
Question. Was this anything like Mtv,s chillout zone? At least here in europe we had MTV,s chillout zone which aired only late after a heavy night of drinking. It offered only non mainstreem pschycadelic minden music which made a great combination with enthogens and pshcycadlic drugs like MDMA , GHB or LSD. It was allmost as if the makers of the program wanten to compliment underground music in combination with pschycadelics
'3/10ths of the population' is amazing. It makes me feel really sad and lonely, but in a happy, reminiscent sort of way. And I only discovered this sort of music a month or two ago, so how's that work? Lol. I guess it's just that there's this amazing genre of music which came and died out long before I discovered it, and is now practically forgotten and consigned to history. Yeah...I think that's really sad.
You Tube videos are never in order. There is always a section or part missing, I.E. (2/5) :( BUT THX 4 the AMP GEE I had the the sheer luck of coming home frying ballz and caught this show , needless to say some bugged out shit. OH p.s. I NEVER STOPED FRYING BIIOOTCH!!!! FUCKIN 90's :}
The great thing about AMP, is that one was always guranteed to hear and to see something they have never heard or seen before! Even if the music wasn't the greatest, the videos always delivered. In other words, if the music was crappy, at least the videos would be cool. Nowadays the videos and the music are crappy, no redeemable qualities whatsoever.
Yo does anyone remember an episode of amp that ft. lil green aliens playing the bongos and dancing...it had some shrooms that danced and went around the whole screen?that has to be one of the most psychedelic visuals i have ever seen!
It was by either LFO or LSG...can't remember which but yeah I know the vid of which u speak....and yes I know there are pop groups with both names...this was definately techno
@fjroberts077 AMP was the greatest thing to ever happen to my life. I want to spread the amazing things of AMP to entire world. Electronic Music from the 90s was the best... There is nothing like this show.
THANK YOU! I had this whole episode on tape and it's been gone since 1998. Plenty of memories watching it under the influence of something. I was a big time drum & bass head in the mid 90's. I'll never forget seeing the 3/10 of the population video come on & how proud I was to see an actual D&B video on MTV
First saw this series during it's initial airing. Only being exposed to rock, pop music and hip-hop at that time, something like "3/10 of the population" was the coolest sound I'd ever heard at the time.
Amazing how much positive feedback AMP has received. I'm willing to bet we'd all kill for a proper release of the entire series run.
I fell asleep on the couch one night. And woke up to one of the music videos on this show. Almost thought I was still dreaming.

This is definitely one of the best things MTV has ever done, if not THE best thing. Too bad they don't do art anymore, only "reality" TV shit.

I wonder if I still have ANY of my MTV AMP videotapes still. I've had to move so much since it went off the air that I'm afraid they're lost forever.
