I like desmond, but I think his part in the story is kinda done. The whole time travel thing was kinda settled in season 5, and I mean come on....he's got a wife and kid now......he's done.
He doest have the power of changing the past he can only change the future, and even then the universe will course correct itself. I dont think Locke will be the leader I think its Locke's job to make Jack realise that he is supposed to be the leader but he just doesnt know it yet. Again like you I'm just spit balling. But its nice hearing other theories. But back to Desmond well the only way he is going back to the Island is with his yacht. So whats going to happen to penny?
Desmond will die in season 6. Think about it in season 2 he is being dishonourably discharged from the army and given back his Charles Dickens book which he says that he has read every book from Mr Dickens except this one, which will be the one he reads before he dies! Desmond will die! He is my favourite but still, its gonna happen!
