  • Its a Maiko...

    Red Collar on the inside

  • Maiko. If you know the difference you could never mistake the two.

  • full painted lips = geiko(geisha), partial painted lips= maiko

  • @mystic132 Maiko's who are working more than 1 year also have their lips fully painted.. Only a Maiko who had her debut less then a year ago paints her lower lip

  • This is Maiko, her obi is not tied up, it is left to hang.

  • @Ashy79600

Do not suggest the obi. On some deals fledged geisha wear dangling obi like to Maiko.

Sorry for my english. I use google translator.

  • @sailorek2 no they never do. Geiko always wear theirs in a box shape, always unless they are in theature performance.

  • @YukioSnowoBloom No. Somewhere I have seen pictures of geiko, which have been combed in wareshinobu and furisode and had started to like Maiko obi tied. Where can I find these pictures somewhere, it will give you a link to them. Because I assure you that such situations happen. Because it is a holiday or some circumstances. Rare, but they are.

Sorry for my english, I use google translator.

  • @sailorek2 These are Han'gyuko, (litterally "half jewel") They are not specifically Maiko but they're not Geisha either.

If I remember correctly they're living in Tokyo and not in Kyoto

  • @contortionist104 :she is Maiko san and becoming Maiko less than one year. maiko san and geiko san only in Kyouto.

  • @bitianfengchui1961 She is a first year maiko thats true.. But Maiko's are only from Kyoto,.. Geiko is a specific name for Geisha but there are Geisha's all over the country not only in Kyoto.. Geiko is only a specific name...

  • maiko

longer sleeves, longer obi (belt), red collar, more decorative kimono, more hair ornaments including hana kanzashi, the dangling flowers, which only maiko wear, hairstyle

  • maiko

  • Maiko because she has a red collar and her obi hangs down.

  • Maybe a geisha because of a white collar, but It didn't seem like her upper lip was painted, so maybe maiko

  • maiko has long sleeves and they are learners of geishas; and geishas (geicos in kioto) have short sleeves

  • maiko

  • maiko ^^

  • she is a maiko one because only maiko wear that type of obi

  • Comment removed

  • she is a geisha (because of her white collar)

  • I agree, she does remind me of Kosen-san. And yes, definitely a maiko-san, and not all geisha "don't wear much makeup." If they are new geisha/geiko, they wear the traditional makeup, but as they get older they switch to Western makeup.

  • maiko

  • That's most definitly a maiko. You can differenciate maiko (apprentice geiko) and geiko (geisha in the Kyoto dialect) thanks to their make up, shoes, hair, kimono, obi... Well basically everything is different.

I don't know her name though...

  • @yuritogoth actually they call geiko as geisha only in tokyou

  • @SilverGunZoO actually its only that they call them geiko in kyoto and geisha in everywhere else

  • thats cool, they all ran out of her way like she was a superstar or sth ^ o ^

  • Dumb question...whats a Geisha & a Maiko ? XD ...

  • they are Marikos , Geishas don't wear too much makeup.

  • yay a maiko! probably kosen, its spring time!

i i wonder what those women were laughing at? prob that guy who almost got ran over

  • loll XD

  • i think she is a maiko... beacause the hana kanzashi (ornament on the hair) and by the way she is fast walking!!

  • are only maiko doing this fast walking?

  • i dont know... but... if you see "tayuu" "oiran" or "yujo" are really not fast on walk....

  • they are not required to wear the okobo always... they wear okobo in special ocasions... other times they wear zori or geta

  • Okobo arent only for special occasions. The maiko can choose which type of shoe she wants towear each day.

  • Yes, I am sorry, I know it, but I didn't explained it well :)

  • i wasn't trying to be mean. it's just a maiko and geiko have so many differences, some hard to tell yet some so obvious. so i was just simply stating that you should maybe study more and i did give you a few facts to help you next time. so im sorry if i came off wrong. I ddon't mean to sound mean.

  • shes a maiko. senoir maiko have white collar in the front while in the back it's red. plus how can you mistake the maiko hair for geiko katsura or the dangling daria obi of a maiko for the simple tied box knot of geiko? maiko wear okobo and geiko wear zori, but some times maiko wear zori too.

  • Poor thing. Everybody staring at her like that.

  • shes a senoir maiko. the ollar is red in the back and she has the darai obi.

  • No, she's not a senior maiko. All maiko wear Darari obi, and senior maiko wear a WHITE collar, not red. Not to mention the dangly kanzashi is a dead give away to a 1st year Maiko or a Maiko just going into her 2nd year.

I also know who the Maiko is. This is Maiko Kosen, she is not even Senior maiko now, she will be next year.
