  • economy plus on United is awesome, i flew 777 MUC - ORD over the summer, awesome .... room for my huge backpack and my legs , would pay $200 roundtrip for it again, and it seemed bugger than in this video

  • @SRPSKAchetniK I do like the fact that there is an Economy Plus. But I had those metal boxes. And on this particular flight, the Economy Plus section was exceptionally bad. No reason at all -- in this day and age -- for nearly every seat to have such a huge metal box to contact the entertainment system. It just sucked.

  • Try Eva Air next time it is better

  • Hi, Did United do anything for you afer you complained?...Did you complain at the time?....Also, which airports where ou flying to and from? I've emailed customer service about the metal box last week but they haven't replied yet.

  • @rg85597 Sorry for the long delay this reply. No, United hasn't done a thing. I DO like Economy Plus -- but I HATE those metal boxes. They absolutely suck. And I have complained, too, but United is far too busy with this new (also horrible) merger with my least-favorite airline, Continental. Oh, well ...

  • Wanna share which plane this is? 777, I assume? I don't recall the box being under every seat; did your neighbor also have one? Let me point out that the box problem exists on many airlines, and that when this plane was made, that was the size of an IFE system. Also, for the seatguru fans: Seatguru does not report the location of the IFE boxes on UA 777's, though for some reason I remember it did.

  • @exptimezh Yes, I think it was a 777. The boxes weren't under every seat -- under the very middle, for example. But every aisle seat had one -- and so did the man sitting next to me. AND the divider bars underneat the seats -- which are normally directly under each arm rest and equally divide the leg space -- those bars on this plane were spaced differently. And the leg space on my particular seat was reduced to give room to the man next to me, making is especially bad for me.

  • Go to seatguru or other seat info site and then choose your seat. They will tell you if there is a box under it. I have never had any problems.

  • @clmbhgh82 agreed, seatguru is great for anyone who is constantly flying.

  • @clmbhgh82 Oh absolutely. I do check with SeatGuru. Problem is that ALL of the aisle seats -- and window seats -- have these horrible boxes. And some middle seats, too. On the 2-5-2 seat configuration, the very middle seat (in the middle of the 5-seat section) has no metal box. And believe it or not, that is a huge selling point for that very middle seat.

  • its no different than economy

  • That is pretty crappy. I never fly internationally in anything less than business class. Although I did fly economy after missing my flight from Honolulu to Guam 6 months ago because TSA decided that I'm the son of a Mexican Cartel. I would have gotten to fly first class but some retarded asshole with leg braces couldn't fit properly in economy so I was chosen to be bumped down to economy so he could fly in comfort. Just pick a minority who paid 2.5 times more than some retard to screw over.

  • I was also in Eco Plus. They says you have 5 inches more freeness. I didn´t have Problems with Economi Plus. Do you had free TV in your seat in front?

  • if you think thats bad....try the regular economy

  • Go buy a first class ticket then you cheap ass, I fly E plus all the time and I am over 6' tall, and I have never had any issues, its still economy you moron! and im sure your one of these idiots who hasnt payed crap for their ticket to begin with!

  • @dcthomas98 Uh, no, Mr. Thomas, that is NOT my life preserver. That essential bit of equipment is underneath our seat cusion -- the one that we sit on. (Do you not pay attention to the pre-flight safety instructions?) No, that metal box, supposedly contains the entertainment system for the 5-inch video screens in the headrest of the seat in front of us. Problem is -- that I have a 64Gb Creative Zen that fits in the palm of my hand that can hold about 50 movies!

  • what a pathetic moron. maybe you should go fly on an airline without an E+ product (such as, oh yes, every other American airline). stop complaining, man up,and buy a business class seat you whining child,

  • @tuolumne9 Really? Your responses is "buy a business class seat"?? International business class seats start at about $5,000. Too rich for my blood. Besides, I did pay more for Economy Plus. Get it? It is "Economy PLUS." And they chose to put ugly metal leg-room-robbing boxes under almost every seat. And you want to defend them?

  • @zatoichi101 Economy plus is about leg room not footroom. Half of that plane puts their bag under the seat in front of you anyhow, that footroom is never used. If you have such a problem with the box, do your homework, use seat guru, and don't' book a seat where that box is (not every 767 economy seat has them). IT's for the PTV in front u (which you'd be complaining if u didn't have).

  • @zatoichi101 Yes because those "Ugly metal leg-room robbing boxes" contain life-vests so if the aircraft has to ditch in the sea people don't drown. Also before you spend your money why not read the fine print which contains info on the seat pitch etc. Failing that and you obviously don't want to pay for business you can fucking walk because I guarantee you will be complaining more about how your poor female like feet are hurting.

  • @ColKlink0 LOL!!! No. Those ugly metal boxes DO NOT contain life-vests! They contain the entertainment system for the video players built into the seats. Problem is that my iPhone has 65Gb -- and holds 40 movies. And it is NOT the size of a tool box. You OBVIOUSLY must be a United shill. I wish I could afford $8,000+ to fly Business class. I DO NOT expect Business class seats in Economy, but don't expect a tool box under the seat in front of me.

  • I only fly Economy Plus because I'm Premier, but I wouldn't pay extra for those seats. Three more inches on a 747 I don't notice unless I bring a ruler to measure.

    t

  • SeatGuru is your friend! I guess this was a 747.

  • @beastie20 Yes, a 747. But this was Economy Plus, and there is no information on SeatGuru about exactly which seats have those ugly metal boxes. As I looked - virtually ALL of the seats had them! Especially all of the aisle seats and window seats. Some of the middle seats didn't have them, but most did. These boxes are big and clunk and I just find it amazing that United thought these would be a good idea. (You're right, about SeatGuru -- I do always check there for the best seats!)

  • @zatoichi101

my advice if going back to Germany (from the U.S.)....is take Lufthansa airlines (they are aunited partner anyway in star alliance and can even choose that option on United's website).

  • @zatoichi101 Dude but wth is your problem going on untied on a flight to USA from Germany, next time go on Lufthansa...

  • @TheWarPlanet I fly United because of Economy Plus. (Even though the boxes absolutely SUCK, United's Economy Plus is still better than the alternatives.) And, often, the Lufthansa flight IS a United flight -- because they're partnered.

  • @zatoichi101 Was this on a refurbished UAL 747 (with new business and First class)?

  • @PilotUTA Not sure if it was a refurbished 747 ... But I fly on United internationally all the time (because of Economy Plus) and these horrible metal boxes are under almost every seat! They have been explained as being part of the "entertainment system" but it just doesn't make sense. They absolutely suck and I have complained about them before. And I will keep being vocal and outspoken about those stupid boxes. They steal leg room -- and without them, United could be the BEST airline!

  • well first of all have u walked an compared regular economy to economy plus?? u can tell the difference. 2nd the box are for the TV screens on your seat unless if u want them to take it out and u have no entertainment....and last if ur that tall just pay for an upgrade to business its a lie flat bed ull have more room.........either way united is the ONLY airline that has ECONOMY PLUS.....try going on another carrier and see what u get......AA and DL dont have it...

  • Boeing put that there and that is why I avoid the aisle seats. And don't forget about the kid kicking the back of your seat the during entire flight and if he isn't there it is the coughing guy behind you coughing as loud as he can. And as so as the plane lands he stops coughing. And don't forget about the assholes in front of you who never fail to recline the seat into your face. Those "PHUCKER" look like they are as happy as can be they look like they are having a cancer stick after sex.

  • I love shills. Thanks for the video. What a scam.

  • I'm 6'4'' and I recently switched to United mostly because of Economy Plus. But the metal boxes are a pain I agree. They need to eliminate those . . . but as a heads up, try going to seat guru to look up which seats are poor before you select them. They have information about which seats have metal boxes, do not recline, have no windows, etc for most airlines.

  • @jfbenzl Thanks!! Yes, I agree that seat guru is a great site and excellent source of information. I swear by seat guru!! Unfortunately, on the flights that I have looked for, there was no information about which seats had those horrible boxes. And from my experience, almost all aisle seats (my preference -- which I am sure you can understand as another tall person) have those boxes. I am praying that United will get rid of them!! When they do -- they could be the perfect airline!!

  • You should write a letter to United to complain.

  • @jfbenzl I DID write a letter to United to complain. Not only that -- I sent them a link to this video. (And as you can see from the string of comments, their response was to send a couple of shills to write bogus comments. Pathetic.) I don't mean to just "bash" United. I am 6'5" tall and have been praying for this type of option on an airline. But this just sucks.

  • @zatoichi101 ALSO AVOID DELTA THEY ARE ADDING 11 SEATS TO THEIR INTERNATIONAL PLANES!!!

  • @TheWarPlanet Unreal. Didn't hear that one. Typical, though ... in a day when passengers are complaining loudly about legroom, Delta chooses to make things even tighter.

  • United economy plus, 5 more inches of legroom

*Cue price is right fail tune*

  • I bumped into those metal boxes repeatedly on United A320s. I think they're under the center seat.

  • Sucker. I flew UAL last summer in economy and I don't think I noticed any great leg room walking through the economy plus section. It was an A320, converted ex-Ted. Economy leg room is acceptable, BARELY... I kept having to cross and uncross my legs without kicking the seat in front of me which took some care, since I'm 5'11.

  • THANK YOU!

  • if you want more legroom, PAY MORE AND GET A BUSINESS OR FIRST CLASS SEAT. If you didn't pay more, STOP COMPLAINING. better still, GET YOUR OWN JET PLANE!

  • Ah! Another United shill. You pathetic bottom-feeders aren't even subtle.

I DID pay more! I paid more to get "5 more inches" -- more "legroom." But alas. no 5 inches. And worse, those f**&^%ing huge metal boxes under the seats in front of you, STEAL any legroom you might have.

United should be ashamed of itself.

    And you should eat me.

  • @TheBeautifulbum LOL!!! Excellent!! That is exactly what the airline seems to be telling us-- and in EXACTLY THAT MANNER!!!

  • Zatoichi...don't be a bitch. If you are going to complain about a stupid box, why don't you spend $12,000 for a business class ticket for a seat with your little 'legroom'

  • Ha!! Thank you!!! Exactly my point!!! United is saying EXACTLY THAT: If you want leg room, SPEND $12,000, bitch!!

If I had $12,000 to fly business, I would NEVER fly United == customer service on United sucks.

  • @Deltari09 How tall are you, dear?

  • Not all the seats have those boxes. It's your fault so sit in one with them. And by the way, you 32gb music player only plays music.. It doesn't store movies, flight information, and other stuff. And keep in mind that UAL hasn't really upgraded their fleet since the 90's. So before you go about bitching, do some research. United is trying to upgrade their fleet.

  • Scaremenga; My 32Gb player DOES play video and music! And, I can record AND listen to radio stations, And it ALL fits into the palm of my hand. FURTHER, the big metal boxes were under MOST seats. TRUE -- not all. But you tell me: WHERE does one "reasearch" which seats have those silly boxes? As for 'bitching,' I have every right to complain about a service that DOES have potential. The idea is an excellent one. But the reality is that these metal boxes are ruining it. You should get a clue.

  • Um.. let's see. Doing a simple search for "best airline searches" on Google, might satisfy you. And you might find that they have very detailed information as to which seats that suck... and which are good. So you have no right to complain for a service that "does have potential" because it's potential has already been fulfilled. Maybe you should get a clue? Instead of expecting to get the best things in life by just paying a little bit more.

  • And your music player... ooh I am so impressed. Are you saying you'd rather United install these and you'd have a higher ticket price? Because the way you're complaining about your sear, I don't think you want to pay more. My iPod does all that too, but I don't care that an airplane seat can't. Most airplane technology is outdated, realize that? You were in a 757, I believe, that plane is from the early 80's... old technology, what can you expect?

  • Instead of saying search for "best airline searches" I mean seats.

  • Once again, you have completed missed the point. (Or perhaps you chose to ignore the point, which leads me to suspect that you are merely a shill for United.) First, my MP3 player is nothing special -- that was the point. Any random video player out there today will fit in one's palm. These huge metal boxes are insulting. Would I prefer that United install updated versions? NO. I would prefer MORE LEG ROOM, period. Sacrificing leg room for these silly boxes was a bad move by United.

  • No actually I didn't miss the point. And no, I'm not a shill for United. I know your MP3 is nothing special in terms of today, but the technology that this plane is equipped with dates back to the 80's. Your MP3 did not exist back then, and that is why that seat was equipped with that box. And how are you going to get more leg room without removing the boxes? Those boxes have always been there, so there's no bad move. PLUS is usually an exit-row seat, therefore it needs more equipment.

  • Sheesh, you really are a clown. These boxes have NOT been on these planes since the 80s! Are you kidding me?! These are relatively NEW -- within the last two or three years -- and are part of United's new "upgraded" video service. Screens in the headrests and the capability for passengers to select from a variety of movies are recent. It does NOT go back to the 80s. So the comparison to an ordinary MP3 player is valid. I have been flying United for years. I knnow. You don't. (Clearly.)

  • And for the record, I believe the plane was a777. (And I am curious as to how you would assume to know the model of the plane from this video -- which shows only a seat a the silly metal box.)

  • Oh, I'm the clown? I don't fly United for years so I really wouldn't know anything. I fly on the better airlines. All I've known is that there have been many complaints on United's older seats regarding old equipment from the 80's. If you've been "flying United for years", then wouldn't you know that the seat you got was shitty? I doubt every seat you've sat in was like this. The video implies that you think all the seats are the same.

  • Yes, you are a clown. You "don't fly United for years" and yet you feel you have some kind of "authority" to comment on my video?? Who do you think you are!?! You don't even fly United and so you know nothing -- not a thing -- about this airline. (Which is evident from your pointless and ridiculous comments.) Come to think of it, maybe I AM the clown for even responding to your inane comments.

  • Greetings from Cleveland. I was considering Economy Plus on my flight from Chicago to Frankfurt, did every seat have this metal box? Could you at least cross your legs comfortably?

  • Not all, but most of the seats had these big metal boxes under the seats. They said they were controlling the entertainment systems, but I have a 32 Gb PMP player that fits in the palm of my hand, so I am not sure they are telling the truth. NO I COULD NOT cross my legs, but I am 6-4 and the seats would have to be very far apart for me to cross my legs.

  • Your vid is very helpful. I will be flying from London to LAX next month and very interested in paying an extra $87 to avail of the eco plus. Well not anymore. Thank you.
