  • Waitaminute... "telatively new" and "ten-year-old" are NOT equivalent. I'm shocked that you're shocked that rubber dries out after ten years. It's a $5 part and takes seconds to replace. It's a great blender. Get over it!

  • Same thing happen to ours after about 7 years of use. Its actually not a design flaw, its designed to break so that you don't burn out the motor. Fixed ours for $10, which was great cause we we're pretty upset about it when it first happened.

  • Note this seems to be a common problem as there are videos posted everywhere about how to repair this issue, and replacement parts and kits for sale on amazon, etc., not expensive. Repair looks fairly easy using a flat head screwdriver. My 3-speed model went strong for 10+ years, still has all the threads on the coupler, but croaked. The coupler is loose but I think the problem is burned out motor. :(

  • This coupler is a design flaw that Kitchenaid will not address. The only reason I can think of is so the consumer will not bother to replace it but, rather, trash the appliance and buy a new one. I'm going to give it one try to fix mine. I'll tell you one thing Kitchenaid, if I can't, you can bet your ass my replacement won't be a kitchenaid.

  • My (White) blender does not sit all the way down on its base after replacement of the coupler - and therefore I cannot get the blades to spin because the coupler does not seem to engage.

    Any tips, clues, advice?

  • I have the same model and broke my jar. WOULDN'T you know it, they discontinued my model. The rest of it is beautiful, all working properly. I really would like to replace the jar and if any of you know where I can get it...please let me know...OR if anyone wants to purchase the motor assembly/cutting blades, please let me know.

    I also contacted Kitchen Aid and she offered me a "deal" on a refurbished one or a new one. The deal was not much of a deal, as I could've gotten the "deal" here.

  • @MsVinnymac there are no replacement parts for discontinued Kitchenaid blenders, period. I tried for weeks upon weeks looking online, throughout Ontario, nothing, and Kitchenaid weren't really sympathetic with my desire not to waste the rest of the blender and dispose of it, only repair it.

    Lucky you, I wasn't offered anything.

    So now I own a different model that does offer me great support... which brand? I shouldn't say... OK, its a Breville :)))

  • I have the same model and after 6 months of use I had the same problem. I rang Kitchenaids support line and the got a very rude lady who said I was using the blender incorrectly and that i would need to pay for replacement of the broken part. I will never buy a Kitchenaid product again and will tell as many people as I can not to buy from them as their products are sub-standard and their service is rubbish or non-existent.

  • What are you doing with my blender!? WTF!! What the f...?? How did you get it? No really, mine did the same thing and I bought that fricken coupler and can't get it on for the life of me. You need that special tool, I can't find a wrench small enough to fit, so you need that fricken tool that cost as much as the coupler. Thank Kitchen Aid, you fucken tools! Plus the glass broke right before, I bought the glass and now this. Just great. Worst blender ever IMO.

  • I just had the same problem, only worse. I called Kitchenaid and was directed to where to get a factory part (it's 10yrs old) and also here for instructions on the repair which will take less effort than this video probably did. I can absolutely relate to dravafoxs' disappointment and frustration (especially the timing), but this is an easy fix and I still love Kitchenaid. Also, it looks like we both had just pulled the blender out of storage and I'm sure that was a factor. Go figure.

    Your model looks EXACTLY like my newer model 4KSB5WH4. I wonder if the lid of mine would fit yours (and they just aren't telling you that so that they can up-sell you). The inside diameter is 5".

  • Interesting .... I just found your video by googling the same problem. Our blender is just over 2 years old. I have used it a maximum of 10 times. After spending an hour on the phone with customer service they sold me a new coupling. Apparently it won't come with instructions on how to replace it. Lovely!

    there is a great online video of how to replace it with a hammer, REMOVING it by hammering CLOCKWISE (the opposite of what would be natural) with sharp bursts... it worked!!

    BUT now my lid is busted AND there are NO replacement parts available anymore and they want me to buy a new one............ so I'm going out and buying a BREVILLE IKON 6OO BLENDER!

  • I had been happy with the product up until a few years ago, and then suddenly everything (coupling, other rubber seals, anything that can deteriorate did) started to break (except the motor I must be honest, its a shame I have to now throw it out with the GLASS jar/assembly) and it became impossible to fix b/c parts were no longer made available by Whirlpool/KitchenAid.

    For your company's sake, I hope this policy changes."

    I'm now buying/bidding on a Breville Ikon 660

  • Here is the email I sent in response to Whirlpool/KitchenAid:

    "I will never buy a KitchenAid product again.

    It seems the parts being made unavailable is a intentional decision; one to coax the buyer into dishing out additional funds to purchase a new unit.

    Some parts are made available in the U.S. and not Canada, and those suppliers will not ship to Canada... curious.

    For what its worth, I will now spend my money on another brand and not risk quality and parts issues as I have with KitchenAid"

  • Hi, my name is Cheryl. I am a KitchenAid employee. Sorry to hear of the problem. According to the model # of your Blender you must be in Canada. I would suggest calling Customer Service to see if there is a Service Center in Canada ... KitchenAid redesigned the Blender. They now have a 48oz. Polycarbonate Pitcher and a nice pour spout... The blender motor has 0.9 horsepower. It has a soft touch feature, and a new Crush Ice feature. You may want to think about an Upgrade.

  • @dravafox I agree with you and their reps. They must've found this problem and discontinued that model - which getting parts is nothing but impossible. Kitchen Aid has always been reliable as I have lots of their products. Maybe blenders are not their thing!!!

  • Hey there... its Dravafox, the poster of this video... Kitchenaid sent me an email response, not much help, and in the end, TRIED TO SELL ME A NEW ONE!! Sorry, but that's pretty underhanded (oh, they don't sell the lid gasket anymore, once the model is obsolete, apparently so is the availability of parts...)
