Love this song! Never knew there was a longer version than the show intro. Now if you'll excuse me me I have to do some coke off of Angie Dickensons ass.
@Deutschlieber Whaddaya mean? Robert Blake was arrested but did no actual time for his wife's murder. He was acquitted and went home, albeit, broke, from all the legal costs.
There was some cool ass times back in the 1970's i really do miss the decade a gallon of milk was super cheap gasoline too f=it the cost of living was really low back but how could a person live off of $1.35 to $2.35 an hour minimum wage back then
@63Brummie The Streets was one of my favorites too no less because those real musicians played their asses off in that theme song. I'm not familiar with the musician's names but if it was John he's an extraordinary drummer and that bassline can't be ignored either.

There were a lot of great TV theme songs for crime shows, but what makes this unique is most of the others were instrumentals (Peter Gunn, Dragnet, Hawaii Five-O, Rockford Files, the Quinn-Martin shows, A-Team, Hillstreet Blues, etc.). Its really tough to pull off vocals for this genre (despite the influence of Shaft paving the way for the 70's). By the way Sammy followed up with Robert Blake's second series, HELLTOWN, but that song sadly was not as good.
...hands down, the baddest-ass intro theme of all time. I watched Baretta every week when I was a kid. Sammy's song drew me in. I'm a fusion/session bassist & this is song is just so freakin' tight. Awesome. :)
I remember being a little girl in my grandmama's living. She would let me stay up to hear this intro. I often feel asleep right after, "well, well, well" :-)
@byramtax i kid you not...In the 1970s in an attepy to get closer to the black community( who considered him a sell-out for kissing Nixon, among other things)Davis got involved in 'radical ' causes, one involving a gang similar to the los angeles Bloods, he listened to them, gave them money and told them he was "down for their cause'.as a show of respect , they offered to JUMP him into their gang, and he accepted..he went through the traditional 5 min. jumping in..IT happened
wow no kidding. the dude was amazing. but that story is even more amazing. thx for sharing. i can say with honesty,,,i did not know that. if you know the name of the gang please share. i would love to look that up and do some research. thx.
