NIce boats but the engines are a Real BSTD to service espoecially the stbd one, getting at fuel filters and pump for maintainance is a night mare. Agreed though a very very good seakeeping craft strong and reliable.I couldnt begin to describe the rough seas I have travelled on the Bnks, suppose all boats have probs thats one of several i found on the "Banks"
Nordhavn is a totally different boat for a totally different purpose than Grand Banks (Aluetians in particular). Both Nordhavn and Grand Banks are as good as it gets for production boats in their respective markets/capabilities.
@radbcc In a nutshell Nordhavn's are displacement hull and Grandbanks Aleutians are semi-planing hulls. A 55" foot Nordhavn @ 115,000 pounds displacement will take you around the world at 8.25 Knots. Great for going a long way (relatively) quickly but nowhere close in a hurry. A 59 foot Grand Banks Aleutian @ 90,000 pounds will take you up and down the coast for a few hundred miles at 19 knots. Great for going to some islands offshore and back over a weekend. This is wildly simplifying things...
@ordotrajanus Got it. So to simplify even more, a Nordhavn would be a world live aboard cruiser and a Grandbanks would be coastal live aboard cruiser. Is that right?
@radbcc Certainly the Nordhavn's are world live aboard cruisers. The Grand Banks Aleutian and Heritage are live aboard coastal cruisers+. You can travel offshore with them you would just have to be much more careful than you would have to be with a Nordhavn. GB aficionados would argue that the speed would make up the difference and lessen the risk. Routes and Sea conditions may not allow for this however. The Eastbays are certainly coastal cruisers only.
You can run this yacht from lower and upper. It has sound insulation in the bulkhead which is useful ;) it is so elegant. I loved the overhead galley hatch between the bridge.. Lovely to own.
These are nice boats but not that cheap as they are real quality. It would be the perfect way to see the world if you had the time and the bucks to match.
