Save the Gatineau River (Farrellton, Wakefield, Chelsea, Cantley, Hull, Ottawa). Since December 2009 citizens have been marching, writing letters and attending meetings to put pressure on public officials to stop their current plans to build massive, highly unpopular, cheap and "last-century" septic sludge lagoons along the banks of Gatineau River -- what will happen to our tourism if 10 of thousands of tons of septic sludge accidentally drains into the river due to human or mechanical error??
@thegatineauriver I was just out in kemptville this weekend and talking to the locals at a coffee shop, the ottawa river already well known for its common city sludge spill overs and the beaches are polluted. Here on the quebec side of the outaouais we are blessed to have the pristine gatineau river and the gatineau hills just minutes away from downtown ottawa for all to visit and get away to! it's true the capital region should look after this beautiful river and listening to the people there!
@Beardedyoungman most of the capitol area of the Ottawa river where tourists go is the Chaudière Falls and rapids along the beautiful bike paths we have here, not safe for swimming either way so I don't mean to discourage tourism, its more a problem for the residents farther from the center. What I mean to say is the capitol region should care more and listen to people in the valuable areas for water recreation around the city that draw people to our beautiful region!
