My first Gathering. And the first time I ever helped fight a forest fire. It was amazing to see how quickly Rainbow brothers and sisters formed that fireline...truely intense.
it was COLD there at night, i got bad chapped lips, the MASH comfrey palm didn't help, I had to get a commercial chapstick, my lips still have lines in them from there, we had a rainbow made through snow, a snowbow, on july 6, which i've never seen before or since, me and Pork Chop collected cans early in A camp to get beer money, i don't go to A camp at night, too insane, i met Vermin Supreme here, still has his megaphone, Vermin for World Leader! Is this movie still rolling?
I can['t believe this is still here! It was found on a MSN Rainbow Family website I created where lots of people contributed. Spun One is stil around. who originally saved it from the Discovery Channel-- but when MSN pulled down the MSN websites that were free it went down too. It's funny seeing such a young Jane LightWarrior healing there. Try asking at either Welcome Home dot org or Welcome Here dot org to connect, plus ithere's film in the internet archive too. Im too dusabled to go now.
The rainbow warriors will bring the souls of fallen natives in the shape of the same white men who killed them on the conquer of north america, and will bring peace, joy and respect for the earth and for earthlings...
See that is where you are mistaken my friend, you have fallen off the creative curve. We are meant to work and make our way through life, (human nature) some how you have misconstrewed a free ride for freedom, on the contrary you are indeed the slave.
You see, I agree with you that all human beings are meant to focus their energy on something. My question to you; why is it better to focus on regular employment, versus creative endeavors and art? In society there have always been craftsman, artisans and trades people who were a valued commodity. In this flat industrial world entire functional sections of traditional hierarchy have been displaced. Your views are your own, but don't go thinking your any better than anyone. That's called Fascism.
We are not so different you and I, (Remember when I said that) It is ok to take the spoils of life and create from there. It is up to each person not to waste what they are given. And if some just "live off the fat of the land" that banch of life just becomes a weed. When they contribute nothing. One who uses their gift for the better meant of human kind becomes a flower.... Did that sound hippie like? Like I said some mis interpret a free ride for freedom. Which is a mistake. IMHO
Yes, it's true enough what you are saying. There is no religion greater than the truth, and I will not dispute it when I see it. Consider though that many Rainbow brothers and sisters have serious physical and mental disabilities that impede their ability to work. Also a great many are veterans of foriegn wars, some with injuries they will endure for a life time. I myself am neither, and am a good example of a "weed." I'm young and fairly healthy, but I get by on less than 6k a year SSI.
Most people from the rainbow gatherings are middleclass and higher income brackets. We put millions of dollars into the local economy of wherever the gathering will be held for that year.I never hear anyone complain when their counting our money.
I probably make at least twice as much money as you and I know I pay a lot more in taxes.Just be happy that your not the one on welfare,i know a lot of blowhards like yourself lost their jobs and had to collect.
I think not chief. A few "higher class" people in the gathering do not make up for, nor equal out for the select few who go into the super markets and wash their hair from the produce hose in hopes that the store will throw away what is ruined or beg for money outside a store. A small town who has never had bums, now over run with them. If I do lose my job, I will collect welfare but I also have not been jobless in twenty years. I do not believe it is someone elses duty to support me.
hey anyone ? I wasn't there at that gathering but was at the annual near Taos the next year, I arrived early, there was some weird stuff then. I'm wondering if anyone can fill me in on the aftermath ...
Nice to see this video is still here. It was taken from our website, which is now being moved to a web host called "Multiply", and I hope it can be transferred with it, since MSN groups are being closed down Feb 1st. For those who distrust caring, sharing people of all walks of life, I strongly recommend that you actually come to a Gathering- we have a big one in the US every July 1-7 but they are all over the world, and often, in your own backyard at various times of the year.
Haah! Yeah, we say if you got a bellybutton, you are a human being, and part of our immediate family. There was a woman who really did show once who didn't have a bellybutton! That was funny. Of course we embraced her presence.
I was at this gathering, and it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever experienced. I cried when I had to go home. For a few days, we got an idea of the human race is capable of if we work together.
That's funny I met quite a few oilfield workers from Pinedale and Rock Springs at the Gathering they were having a great time while you were wallowing in your hatred of all things different. Next Gathering we might even set up a Wyoming kichen there were enough of us at this one.
I lived in Wyoming for several years, and the Rainbow Family is dynamic, strong, community oriented, and diverse. Rainbows run businesses, practice law, teach school, practice medicine, write, and so on, in Wyoming, just like they do in every other state in the Union, and at the annual gatherings.
stop saying rainbow gatherings is TRASHING meadows and forests, guess what? Your helping trash our world! By allowing all this crap to go on in our economy.cutting down the trees that we need, building walmarts, an taking homes away from others to do so, not to mention the jobs "you" have to whore yourself out for, just to put food on the table, or to get a new pair of shoes. Get over it!
Before you bash the RAINBOW FAMILY, BASH YOUR PRESIDENT, FOR CONTRIBUTING TO THE DISTRUCTON OF OUR WORLD!
It's people like you, who make it worse than what it is. The police, media and LEOS make it worse that what it is! What happens at the getherings, happens all over the world, germany, china, UK, the RAINBOWS are everywhere, doctors, top notch LAWYERS,teachers, some police who dont want to be named, and so many more, sorry to burst your bubble, but "we" are NOT going anywhere! PEACE AND LOVE BROTHERS AND SISTERS! Sorry im missing this yrs ANNUAL!
I think its sad to see everyone talking the way they are. Lets put it this way, STEALING happens EVERYWHERE, Trash is EVERYWHERE, poor and homeless people EVERYWHERE! You may not see them but they are there! Its simply about leaving all the crap in your daily lives behind for a week, jobs that you have to have to wipe your butt, and mouth when poop falls out, TP IS NOT FREE, if living in a paper world makes you happy, good for you, but if nature and some peace makes them happy, LEAVE THEM ALONE!
I was there visiting my grandmother that summer. She lives in Big Piney. She used to own one of the grocery stores. From what I remember there were naked women in the streets, and a lot of shoplifting. I now live about an hour from Big Piney and am not looking forward to this summer. They talk about mother earth and crap, but everytime they leave somewhere it is trashed! My friends mother worked for the forrest service that year and said they left it 100 times worst than it was.
i worked at the general store in big piney back in 94.while there were a few thefts the owners were VERY happy with the rainbow family.i came for gethering and worked there during it to make extra cash.i don't believe for a second your grandma owned the store.i knew the people personally.30k people a hand full of candy bars stolen and one bag of dog food from what i remember.
i call bullshit.there was only one general store there and i worked at it o make extra cashed while i was there for the gathering.there were very few thefts and the owners loved us.invited me back to stay with them any time i ever came through in fact.
shut the hell up, what do you think deer, moose, antelope, elk, ect. do?? They graze in the forest! What trashes the national forest is gross ass hippies, that are stoned out minds!
i left my camp/tent, returned a few hours later to find it smashed in, poles broken, fabric ripped. the surrounding camps of adults were just as i left them - playing guitars, etc. i finally learned that some of there kids jumped on my tent for fun while the parents did nothing. the parents' response to me was that i should be accepting. they would not pay for damages or even offer to fix it, just kept playing guitar and acting holy. typical, i found.
hm thats the kind of thing i sort of wonder about these things. but at the same time i'd say that sort of thing happens at most large gatherings. like this one time a this big christian there was a mosh pit that knocked out 10 people. dunno people i guess
Your comment is very offensive. Obviously you have never been to a gathering. I was at this one. I was one of the many who stayed to help clean up, and when we left, there wasn't even a cigarette but or a bottle cap to be found. The only thing we left was maybe trails, which probably grew over by the next year.
What you dont understand is that when all of you gather, even those meadows, and with the amount of people that are there, you are destroying the meadow floor ecosystem. WHat you trampled down will take another 10 years for it to be the way it was. I know because I live in Steamboat Springs and when u came down in '06 you trashed alot of the forest land
Sorry, this was in 1994. I know, because I was there, and it was the summer after I graduated. I wish the video was better quality. Thanks so much for posting this! Now I can show my friends and family that it really was real!
My family and I were camped at Midway Cafe, until the fire when we got the heck out. Speaking of which what caused that fire was a camp with a personal fire, which is a big no no in the gatherings.
I've been going to gatherings since I was born. California was my first in 81' I think, anyway..I don't remember it :p Unfortunately Montana was my last gathering, had to start working for the "man". I will go again! Soon I hope :)
Litter? Really? You must not know anything :p We spend a month or so on clean up after every gathering, until every piece of trash is picked up, every fire pit disassembled.
Being slutty? I've never had sex at a gathering, if couples choose to have sex that's their own business.
Of course some people, who really don't know what it's about are going to do a bunch of drugs and be stupid. That doesn't mean we are all that way.
The original gatherings discouraged any use of drugs. And, rushthat speaks, we are probably all hypocrites if we are alive, no matter what our aspirations. But, at least the intention to be loving, and respectful is there. I understand what you are saying, burnssweetgrass. Playing Indian and being Indian are two entirely different things.
DarceyAchin, I was at the Oregon Gathering in 78. The 70s, ahhh those were the years. Who knows I might have witnessed your birth. Enjoy the planet while your here, just treat it with a little respect.
Jesus or Jerusalem camp are shocked by those who'd even use your profanity. Mothers don't give their kids away! The LAW stay with us for safety & to observe our every move! We r ppl of every kind- stockbroker to midwife. We discuss better education, living from the Land, exploring, workshops, kitchens & pray for Peace. We also leave the place looking untouched. Learn, child.
The "Rainbow tribe" is offensive to me as a First Nations woman. The rainbows should be examining the assertion of white privilege inherent in their cultural appropriation.
I don't know where Rainbow Tribes became Tribe. You are seeing just the US/Canada Gatherings. We have them globally. Even in my home of Brazil! But here, a large number of First Nation ppl taught all kinds of wisdom from experience, from the talking stick of the western area - respect for environment, and much more. 1st gathering was on Hopi land. Get involved. There is so little that any of us know, and those from the Rez often have suffered. Feel free to contact.
I guess standing up for our natural born rights that are supposed to be protected by the constitution is now considered to be unpatriotic? Wow, I guess I'm unpatriotic too... So then, by that logic, I guess sending kids off to die and murder for money and power is patriotic? We still love you regulator even though you are misguided... Peace
The rainbows probably started the fire, damn hippies.Go do something productive and worth while, and stop complaining about problems with out offering any solutions!
it's a lot more productive than protesting and getting stoned with a bunch worthless people who call themselves "patriots" but yet do things that are unpatriotic.
I was at this gathering and helped with the water line to put out the fire. Someone handed me their baby to get out of the smoke so they could help. It was scarey, but I found them at the road.

Big Piney, Wyoming was my first gathering. Changed me forever. It was 1994, not 1997. I love the interviews. Love.
