  • mumford & sons, performing one of their best songs, surrounded by books in a lamp-lit room, yelling out one of the best curse words ever invented, along with marcus mumford's utter sex appeal make this one of the most outstanding videos on the internet.

  • 4 Words...DAMN, YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheFryersmuch i think i just fell in love with you

  • Gosh, I'm trying to figure out how he plays the chords here. I figure this is Open D right? Does anyone have any idea how it's done, can't get it to sound anywhere near right.

  • I wonder if he really fucked it up at one point and thats why he got so emotinol

  • There no more artists nowadays who get so into their music and lyrics that they cry from what it takes out of them. That is what Mumford & Sons does. Clearly the lyrics means so much to him that it sparks an immediate reaction. Tell me if you see this anymore and ill drop it, but it seems like there are no artists that are in touch with their music as much as Mumford & Sons, and i haven't seen that in a while.

  • @jonoliver95 I thought Marcus was sweating. But it could be a tear or two....maybe.

  • @jonoliver95 i defiantly agree with you 100% but a guy that also has a connection to his music just like these guys are city and colour, when asked if he ever wrote a song to personal to him he didn't release it he replied "no" all his song are about things that have happened to him and people in his life, so close he wrote a song about his parents called "the grand optimist" and even his wife, check him out if you havent already, love this song btw

  • @jonoliver95 matt corby 'brother' look it up

  • @jonoliver95 i'm disgusted to say, justin bieber....drop it

  • @slashBVB bahahahahaha!! you dont know how hard youve made me laugh xD

  • @jonoliver95 There are, please don't say stuff like this. :-/

  • @jonoliver95 that was deep as shit

  • Comment removed

  • @jonoliver95 Panic! at the Disco is also a really good band in tune with their musical sides.. But where does he cry? That moisture on his cheek is sweat, my friend.

  • @Allsparkendox you can hear it in his voice, he starts to choke up in the middle of the song. My point is his music really ties into his emotions and it obviously means a lot to him.

  • @jonoliver95 Well a lot of peoples music ties in with their emotions.. It's usually the main reason people write songs. Derek Sanders (Mayday Parade) really gets into his music. A lot of artists do.

  • @Allsparkendox i agree with Mayday Parade's Derek Sanders, but my point is not many artists do it anymore, and its not like how it used to be. It should be the way it was, artists should pour everything into their music, and not many do that anymore

  • @jonoliver95 completely different genre but, kid cudi, fucking love mumford and sons though

  • @jonoliver95 Anna Ternheim does! :)

  • I really fucked it up this time! didnt I might dear......... didnt I might..

  • ingenious.. ;)

  • No one says, "fuck," like Marcus Mumford. No one.

  • @leavesofgrass92 Damien Rice in his song "Rootless tree"

  • @leavesofgrass92

    agreed

  • @leavesofgrass92 indeed. and suddenly you realize that "fuck" can actually really be a swearing word. totally depends on your pronounciation

  • @leavesofgrass92

    Amen to that!

  • He has a great voice! Love this band

  • I don't think I've ever seen a band get so into their own music before. The reason I feel so much when I hear them play is because I know they are feeling the same things I am. Their music has so much depth, and meaning anyone who doesn't like it, just hasn't been there themselves.

  • @blu3bomb3rx check out the dave matthews band. they get just as into it

  • Heyy, you can't say fuck in a book shop XD

  • @TheMagnumpete you can say fuck in a book shop you only have to say it quietly.

  • Truly rare when a live performance is far far superior to the cd version. Personally, I can't listen the cd version, after hearing this version.

  • What a purely amazing voice, So raw and full of emotion.

  • I used to be a library attendant until I was..... hit by an arrow to my knee

  • @Pinsel486 Stop with the pitiful jokes, they're not funny and old, just like your sense of humour.

  • @MRsirprysin no lollygaggin

  • We all claim to be different yet we all identify to this music. Interesting. Maybe we are not all as different as we would like to think. I for one take pride in the fact that I am one of the many many people who are fortunate enough to regard this band as one of the greatest of all time.

  • i just learned this tune fucken love it i playd in belfast today i really fucked it up this time...its was my first time playin it but practise makes perfect.THIS VERSIONS IS FUCKIN TOP CLASS MUMFORD SON FUCKIN AWSOMEthis should be the national anthim of ireland without a doupt

  • thumbs up if you can hear every instrument in the song or thumbs up if you can make it so you can hear only one instrument while hearing his voice

  • LOVE THEM! Marcus can sing to me anytime!

  • Now, I have to look after @JakeJustLaughs comment. >-<

  • his rhythm astounds me

  • The bassist looks like Lilly's Dad :D

Besides, great song! I've never seen a band being live so closely to the studio version before...

  • Marcus is the first musician I have heard to have said "fucked" so eloquently and full of emotion. :)

  • No matter what kind of music this band puts out I think they would always be my favorite. They haven't put out a bad song. Everything about thier music is perfect from the fast rythm to the catchy lyrics to the mandolin and guitar harmony, they will always stay in my mind as one of the best Music groups of the 21st century

  • this has been in a movie and a tv show all i want to know was what movie because its driving me crazy please some one give me the name of the movie before it kills me

  • the guitar doesnt sound very good, but the song definitely makes up for it ^^

  • @MugenTensaiKanosei the guitar is the best part of the song!

  • 1:35 First chair bouncy ball in highschool. Music lessons paid for themselves I'd say.

  • my love for mumford and sons is mental..!

  • I used to be a library attendant until I was sacked for singing along to this banging tune, while I listened to it on my headphones.

The person who made the complaint, called me a disgrace to the human race.

I now work nightshift unblocking sewers, which might seem a step down in the employment market but no-one tells me to stop singing and the acoustics are very good.

One night I sang to an audience of rats, who gave the impression they had got their moneys worth.

  • @maqzzz

and nobody cares about your uninteresting opinion

  • @TheFryersmuck bloody hell I love you

  • @TheFryersmuck

    Fucking great response.

Gold star for funny and unique.

  • @TheFryersmuck what the fuck?

  • @TheFryersmuck Sounds like bullshit, but it was classy, so I give the fiction a thumbsup

  • @TheFryersmuck

in the beginning i thought you were going to make a Skyrim joke

but i am glad it wasnt

  • @TheFryersmuck HAHAHAH you are funny. Rats are better than humans anyway.

  • @TheFryersmuck Load of shite

  • wtf happened to island records video?!?!?

  • @TheFryersmuck ...You're my god.

  • @TheFryersmuck im starting to believe u....

  • @TheFryersmuck I like that very much, if thats your normal writing style, please do the world a service and write a novel, we'll owe you : )

  • I want to marry that man <3

  • think you'l find its sweat :)

  • Chills, every time. This song has so much emotion and power in it, and you can hear it from beginning to end. When they're humming (I'll just call it that for lack of a better name other than 'ahh-ing') it's like all of your frustration can be let out right there.

  • Seeing him in concert completed my life!

  • truly music..... DAMN. they pour all their soul into their incredible music.

  • I had a feeling it was something really personal for Marcus. But the band, especially Marcus, is so inspirational for me. They put so much into their music and I'm glad they have started to gain some fame and notoriety and from what I can tell the fame didn't change them.

  • I love this song. I love it so much that I did a cover of it. Check it out!

  • There are few people I admire more <3

  • <3 LOVE IT

  • The way he portrays such emotion in his voice is so beautiful :)

  • @vitormoutte you think he is crying because he screwed up a certain note?! lol that would be my furthest guess. they are truly passionate about their music and you can see it. my guess (which is a better one I think) would be that this song has a lot of meaning to him

  • @MrSavedSuperman Supposedly this song was written by Marcus on his way to a concert, not too long before his marriage had ended. This was they story of how he screwed up and ended up losing the love of his life. A story which I believe we all in one way can relate too....He went on to perform this song at that concert, after the majority had left just himself and a acoustic guitar. It must have been a truly inspiring performance....I have yet to find a recording of the event. OM

  • Never have i seen a group who sound the same as the recording i am so impressed to see what these guys could do

  • lennonman..........or playing poor music

  • Incredible... real talent

  • I love these guys but I truly believe he was crying in the end 'cause he'd really fucked up the song when he couldn't reach the note.. my guess. But they're still awesome.

  • @vitormoutte How is it relevant he couldn't reach a certain note? Is music about having a perfect voice like those fucks in talent shows say? or is it about showing your passion for it that touches other so much?

  • This gave me chills. I love this song.

  • @JakeJustLaughs little wayne has tears too....they're just tattooed on his face

  • @LegitDenny So funny

  • @LegitDenny best respond EVER

  • @LegitDenny that is so gay

  • I thought that was sweat, (^^.

  • It's definately about the passion, no doubt.

  • Comment removed

  • sorry guys but that's sweat and passion

  • wow! Nothing compares to a band that can sing acoustically and sound just as great in the studio. Passion is a great word for this performance.

  • 0:45 BIEBER?!

  • of which film is this song ??? does anybody know ??

  • Comment removed

  • are ya sure those are tears? not sweat? I dont know..just wondering! but yes..passion in music is amazing!! And you can see it in his face as he sings...Love this song! :)

  • such a nice idea to play in a bookshop!!

actually that is exspected of such a gooooooood band! :D

  • is it wrong to headbang to this?

  • If you don't like Mumford or this song... there is something wrong with you.

If you have a second, please take a look at my cover. It would make my day.

  • FOLKS NOT DEAD !

  • i see a lot of Justin beiber hate on the music i listen to and that worries me

  • In the beginning I was like 'eww, wtf is this' when i first heard them and now that i have actually listened to it and became lost in the music, I think its one of the most beautiful bands i have come across. Definitely a favorite band of mine.

  • I Lovett...Hehehe, see what I did there?!

  • @ClaireMangoify When you have to say see what i did there.... it defeats the purpose of making a sly funny...

    Sorry.

Next time try to be better about it.

  • @gusisboosted I was joking around.. Stop being a douche and enjoy the music

  • My best friend Hank Harrison was trying to choose a book, when Mumford and Sons were recording this performance and he told them they were disturbing his reading enjoyment with their loud music.Winston told him, if he didn't stop complaining, he would throw water over him but he darted out of the way and Winston threw it over Marcus instead.Marcus was very angry and called Winston, Churchill.

  • The lead singer looks like he's crying or is that sweat?

  • @jesseman76

It's probably sweat from him literally singing his heart out, but you know what - I wouldn't doubt it. Every time I sing this song I cry because I relate to it exactly just as he does.
