How many Lies do you think you have told in your life? Have you ever stolen anything, even something small? Have you ever looked at a person with lust? Ever used GOD's name as a curse word? If you have, GOD sees you as a Lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart. The Guilty will end up in Hell. That's not GOD's will. You broke GOD's laws, but Jesus paid your fine! Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the higher gifts."
@lucy9359 Paul is implying here that not all speak in tongues and that each member has been given their own gift whether it's to prophecy, speak in tongues, teach, etc.
weird...is how countless idolize Mark..A prophet...please...read some more bible for yourself..dont read a ten poinr powerpoint by a mars hill media team authorized by an excecutive.
Other talents of the spirit are also wisdom, faith, healing through prayer to God. God can talent you with one or maybe more than just one also. But never deny the talents n presence of the spirit.
@Surricos I don't buy into anything. I experience the presence of God's Spirit on a daily basis. He is tangible. He speaks. He heals me. He has done so much for me. If I didn't believe it, it would be like a guy walking straight into a brick wall and then saying, "There's no brick will there. HOw can you buy into that?"
Of course you also need to see the parallel between the Pharaoh of Exodus who said "Let us deal shrewdly with the Jews" and Hitler, and the end result of both genocidal attempts leading to Israel becoming a nation.
Again the comparison to such explicit prophecies to Nostradamus is untenable.
You will no doubt call it a coincidence that the Jews during the Exodus and during the Holocaust were victims of genocide and after both attempts became a nation.
Here is something else I feel I most question you on. The Gift of speaking in tongues aka God speaking thru you to the people and provides an interpreter is differant then speaking in tongues as your prayer language. right? I believe in acts it says they ALL spoke in tongues so AND wasnt as significant a word as ALL. If you speak in tongues it will increase your discerment and make your walk with God more personal, easing your change after salvation. Hope you will help Guide my understanding.:)
AAAHHHHHH, people, you act like helpless animals. We have been lied to so much for so long we have forgotten who we really are. AND we are not, and will not be some slave to some GOD above or below.. Think, this crap don't add up. A being of such awsome power needs not our attention or reconizaion. The only things that efftect us is what we allow too. fuck, its 2010 for crying out loud. When will we learn?
@AwakeningMindz You do realize that atheism has been around since the beginning and has always been an option......
Consciously deciding to be atheist does not make you enlightened, sorry. The French were saying all that you are saying now 200 years ago and look where their "rationalism" and "atheism" got them. (even constructed a temple to "Reason"!)
Wait...you are NOT a helpless animal? A germ could strike you down at any moment, how pathetic you must be to be killed by something so small
@Icannottolerateit I am not an atheist, first of all. Obviously we where constructed of some divin intervention. Yes, a germ can kill you if you are stupid enough to take government vaccine that lower your immunity levels. With that said, that doesnt mean I have to believe a tax free system of a faules church that claims to speak to a GOD of any type. We are not alive to serve anything, the creator is apart of us. Not sepreate from us. I dont care what some bullshit book says, wake up brotha.
@AwakeningMindz Except the Bible explains current events quite well.....
We ALL worship something, whether we are conscious of it or not. Most are self-centered and serve only their own interests. Many serve money, fame, temporary pleasure, etc.
The God of the Bible is Love, and apparently you did not get the memo. The Bible is also clear that God is not separate from us, although we cause separation through hate. Obviously you are in no position to comment on what you do not understand.
@Icannottolerateit Of course, everybody is born as an atheist. And everyone who does not believe in every god ever invented in the history of man is a atheist to a certain degree.
Atheism is not some ideology thats designed to play on your feelings and make you feel good. It is the observation that there is no evidence at all that suggests a god exists.
@Icannottolerateit Atheism is not the claim that there is no god. Atheism is not being anything, it is a word used to describe those without a belief in a god.
Someone who does not collect stamps is well aware that he does not collect them, that however does not make not collecting stamps something you actively do.
I never said Christianity is about feeling good, you are using straw man arguments.
@thisisnotanick Christianity is entirely centered on "picking up your cross", which means willfully suffering for the cause of loving Christ and our neighbors.
Atheism is "eat, drink and play for tomorrow we die".
Atheism makes no demands of a person at all. You can be a fulfilled atheist who sits in his room all day playing video games and only doing things for yourself. Christianity is hardly about happiness...*sigh*
@thisisnotanick And you are free from control? You are not controlled by the love of your life and the concerns of this world? You are not free but are burdened by the petty things of this present world and the pleasures that drive you.
Christ was a man about control? Moses was a man of control? Why does the Bible make it a point to point out all the faults of Moses and all the other prophets of old?
Control for what purpose? Christ did not start a temporal priesthood!
@Icannottolerateit Free from the control of religion? No, in my country half of the cabinet of the government needs to be Lutheran Christian by law.
The difference of being controlled by reality, and being controlled by religion is that religion is specifically made to control. And you cannot escape reality and still be alive, though you can escape religion.
Christ Jesus is a character in a book. Moses is a character in a book. What the bible says, or does not say is irrelevant in that regard.
@thisisnotanick Jesus is a character? Fairly certain virtually all serious Biblical critics, atheist or not, are confident in the existence of Christ. Every serious scholar asserts that the writings of Paul and Mark were written a few decades at most from the life of Christ.
In fact the existence of the Jews is proof enough! Do you know how many times they were conquered by a foreign nation? The writers of the Bible were quite confident of their claims, and they seem quite accurate.
@thisisnotanick Israel became a nation again after being dispersed almost 2,000 years. That is unprecedented and explicitly predicted by OT prophets.
I cite the Jews because their existence alone after being conquered at least 7 different times by foreign nations is unprecedented and predicted by these prophets very explicitly.
You cannot ignore the prophecy in Genesis concerning Islam. (Ishmael)
You cannot ignore the prophecy by Christ concerning Ishmael (Islam) and Isaac (Israel).
@thisisnotanick Nostradamus' predictions are vague and he made thousands of them. The Bible makes a few very clear predictions that do not make us bend backward to make them believable.
"Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, `Give them up!' and to the south, `Do not hold them back.' Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth"
@thisisnotanick And you will no doubt try to argue, "that is a self fulfilled prophecy!" but the fact that the Jews survived as a cohesive social unit for the 2,000 years it took to fulfill this prophecy should refute such an attempt.
The fact that the Catholic Church tried for over a 1,000 of those years to prevent the Jews from returning to that land also refutes that.
That begs the question, why was it never self fulfilled sooner?
@thisisnotanick It is an explicit prediction that happened around 2,500 years after the fact. Jews returned to Israel from literally EVERY nation.
How was it self fulfilled? You speak as if it was done solely to fulfill the prophecy, whereas it was for political reasons which had absolutely nothing to do with fulfilling this prophecy and was only considered because of the Holocaust.
If there was no Holocaust there would be no Israel. This is an established fact.
@Icannottolerateit How it was self fulfilled? By Jews returning to Israel and by throwing out people living there.
It was probably done for both political reasons, and because the holy texts said they would return.
"If there was no Holocaust there would be no Israel."
No this is not a fact. You have no reason at all to call this speculation a fact, because you have provided no evidence at all, and your so called fact is not testable.
@thisisnotanick I would not suspect the average youtube atheist to know much about the history of the Jews
Who cares if it was done for political reasons? That does not prevent this prediction FROM ACTUALLY HAPPENING. If you were to look at the Jews during the second century and say that their text would be influential enough to determine anything like a forceful return to their homeland every Roman in the world would have laughed at you.
@thisisnotanick How else were they supposed to return to their homeland?! You also just drew another parallel with the way in which they returned to Israel the first time. (Yet another one of this silly self fulfilled prophecies and parallels I guess)
The fact Jews had political influence enough to manage this defies all odds.
How do you explain the prophecy in Isaiah that says, "Syria will worship with Egypt"? (Islam) Let me guess, it was a lucky guess.
@thisisnotanick Atheism is so simple that it takes no thought to understand it! I speak as a person who was an atheist the great majority of my life. You are not free, you worship gods but do so unknowingly and in ignorance.
Every living person has a god that they worship. Even though you are an atheist your attention is drawn to so many idols it is impossible to even count them all.
Again the pink unicorn comparison makes absolutely no sense and is tired from being used so much.
@Icannottolerateit How do you know I worship gods? How can you have been an atheist the majority of your life when in fact you do not know what atheism is?
Saying that every living person has a god they worship is an assumption, and unless you back it up with evidence, it is horse dung.
I used the pink unicorn comparison because you obviously have a hard time understanding what atheism is. You seem to want it to be something it is not.
@thisisnotanick I do not know what atheism is? A-THEIST. IT is hardly complicated.....*sigh*
Atheism is the REJECTION of any belief in "deity".
A natural human, as you say, would not have a conception of atheism OR theism. How can you reject a concept you have never considered or heard?
Again God cannot be compared with a pink unicorn. Do I need to explain why again? The comparison is illogical and tired. You are repeating something you heard
@Icannottolerateit Atheism is a lack of a belief in a god. The word actually means "without god". Someone who does not know of a specific god, has no more belief in that specific god then someone who knows about it and has "rejected" the belief.
You havent explained why my comparison makes no sense, all you did was tell me it did not make any sense. But sure, go ahead and explain specifically why the comparison I made makes no sense.
@thisisnotanick Your comparison makes no sense because a pink unicorn could NOT possibly have created the Universe.
Richard Dawkins says he is 99% sure there is no God. One reason for this is because the God of the Bible is NOT material and therefore can exist prior to the material world.
Pink unicorn CANNOT; it is pink and therefore its existence is contingent on the existence of light.
The God of the Bible's existence is contingent on nothing other than Himself.
@Icannottolerateit How do you know that a pink unicorn could not have created the universe? It could have done so from another universe in a multiverse. Any supposed "spiritual" world could also very well feature laws of nature. Either way I never made such a claim.
My comparison was between atheism and not believing in pink unicorns.
The God of the bible appeared as a burning bush, which clearly reflects light.
@thisisnotanick Well the existence of the color pink, like I said, is contingent upon the existence of white light as it exists in our universe. Well once again if this pink unicorn existed in another universe the universe then this unicorn's existence is STILL contingent upon the existence of this "other" universe.
That was not literally God and NO ONE suggests that it was. If it was Moses would not have asked to see God like he does in the wilderness at a later time.
@thisisnotanick God is never described in terms of color, because that would involve some part of his being as being contingent upon some created thing.
Zeus? He has a material body and such a being could not have existed prior to this universe as modern cosmology demonstrates.
The Bible says "God is spirit" meaning he is not temporal and none of his characteristics depend upon some preexisting material.
Besides, those pagan gods were literally the items they symbolized.
@thisisnotanick Anything that has any measure of control in your life is an idol that you worship. To say you have nothing in your life which controls your actions speaks to your level of delusion. You only imagine yourself free, when in reality you are basically controlled by petty objects and thoughts.
You, being an atheist, probably hate it when your intelligence is insulted. You therefore worship Horus.
As if worship has anything to do with attending a religious place.....
@Icannottolerateit "Anything that has any measure of control in your life is an idol that you worship"
Just because you think something is true, does not make it true. You are just making assumptions and spewing out conjecture. You assume to know all kinds of things about other people, when in fact you have no clue at all.
"You, being an atheist, probably hate it when your intelligence is insulted. You therefore worship Horus."
No I do not worship Horus, why would you think that?
Actually everyone worship something, if you have a proper understanding of the word "worship".
Anything that causes you to sacrifice anything else in favor of it is your god. It can be something as silly as stamp collecting. It can be a certain kind of knowledge. It can be wisdom in general (Horus). It can be ANYTHING. To say you are immune to this kind of thing is delusion, and the worst kind of delusion.
My God is LOVE itself. What is yours if not Horus?
@Icannottolerateit You are defining words to suit your own purpose, which is fine as long as you dont project that definition upon other people. People define "god" in all sorts of ways, many simply call nature "god". I dont. I define god as a deity in a religion.
You also define worship to suit your own purpose. The word worship is DERIVED from an Old English word that means to give worth to something. How is the Old English definition "the proper understanding"?
@thisisnotanick You do not give worth to things? If one worships anything it becomes his god and has power over him.
Your definition is a very suitable one!
Someone who plays video games an inordinate amount of time worships the vanity.
Why is Love not the object we should be worshiping? I am ready for you to argue in support of Horus at anytime, given that you probably believe "science" should be the foundation of our society.
@thisisnotanick So Horus is the foundation of our society?. I agree with you. I do not think you understand the pagan gods very well. They were merely personifications of objects, concepts or anything else one could imagine or see.
Horus was (is) the personification of wisdom itself. It does not take faith to believe in wisdom.
"In the beginning was Love, and Love was with God and Love was God"
My God is Love, as nothing else is worth striving or fighting for.
@Icannottolerateit No, science is the foundation of our society, and science is not the same as Horus. Horus is the name of two different Egyptian gods, one being a sungod, the other was Sets brother. Later they merged into one as far as Egyptian mythology is concerned.
Perhaps I do not understand the pagan gods very well, which is irrelevant. There is no evidence that any of them exists or existed. But I do understand what science is, and I can assure you that science is not a mythological god
@thisisnotanick Actually if you properly understand them you will know exactly what Horus is and how he (or it) is the foundation of modern society.
You do not listen. Horus was not some invisible deity, he was LITERALLY the PERSONIFICATION of wisdom. Horus IS knowledge and understanding, not an invisible god.
@thisisnotanick Wikipedia is not going to help you understand what Horus is. Maybe you should read Joseph Campbell or someone else that has a deep understanding of this topic. The superficial understanding is that these gods were invisible deities and their representations were exactly that, literal images of these invisible gods. That is not the reality. The reality is that these gods, again, were personifications of VISIBLE things which required NO faith whatsoever.
@UrbanStrike I think he was talking in the words of Paul when he said that, like Paul was saying that you don't need a massive experience or a guru like Paul
That is bizarre - ICor8:6 is the only legit creed. Guess who is absent??? Read the text yourself.
Paul is clear what the Holy Spirit is - the Spirit of God (so, of course, the Spirit is personal - the spirit is the spirit of the person of God). However the spirit is NOT a distinct person any more than you are a distinct person from your own spirit (ICor2 - it is all there - just read it).
Sadly Mark is bound to tradition and not Biblical thinking.
The last man's life settles into the grave. Our world is now left in ruins. Extinction exists across the Earth. Eulogy imprinted on their hearts. Humanity now forgotten in the void. Do you know the cause of the universe's failure? The cowardly white light of god is to blame. The church weakness and suffocates the will. Man-made plague to poison the race. Fools live to be led by fools. Holy arrogance builds on their mountain ignorance. This world of misery and you are to blame.
i agree with everything of this message, however I believe that we all have the opportunity to have the gift of speaking in tongues. I know we are given spiritual gifts as it says in the bible, but we are sons and daughters of the Living God, we inherit more than we can imagine! ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE.
@Jacki79 1 Corinthians 12:11 "All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines." it is not up to us, friend. and the gifts are 'not for the believer, but for the non-believer'.
the church should love, (1 cor. 13) but "love.. does not seek its own (or is not self-seeking)"
BUT "he who speaks in a tongue (unknown language) edifies HIMSELF" its not about us. its about edifying. please read all of 1 Cor. my friend and i hope God touches you. :)
Actually you need to read all of it. 1 Corinthians 14: 5 Paul says clearly, "I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy." He goes on to say in verse 13-15, "Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray for the power to interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also." And verse 39, "DO NOT FORBID SPEAKING IN TONGUES."
@Jacki79 Yes, but in my 26 years of ministry, I've seen far more people who want that gift than who desire the FRUITS of the Spirit. That's what we are to desire and have. Why is it that so many people want sign gifts when Jesus said that "A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign" (Matthew 16:4)?
@PastorDClift WHAT people should desire above EVERYTHING, is a RELATIONSHIP with Him. I wont have strife, i have done nothing but leave encouraging words... JESUS bless you.
@PastorDClift I never said we had to SEE SIGNS to believe, if people need to see God to believe in him and obey him, then many wouldnt follow him after that anyways. There wouldnt be enough signs for the unbeliever who has no faith. its all about faith. they dont want to know him. Those who know JESUS will suffer as He did. Im on the walk with you bro, I have lost friends and family and im persecuted every single day in my home town, i know the cost of Following JESUS and its sooo worth it.
1 Corinthians 12-14 teaches us that the most important gifts of the Spirit are the gifts of faith, hope and above all love. Not sensational ones, such as speaking in tongue. The New testament witness never considers it crucial for Christian spirituality although it is very helpful. We always need to remember that a true gift of the Spirit builds up the community and contributes to the common good rather than only the self-aggrandizement of a few.
Don't need to the bible is pretty clear about the gifts of the spirit i am fortunate to work in many of them. When u are filled with the Holyghost (the spirit of God) then you have access to those gifts because it is through him and not through us.
Most people don't get the cultural scene and that 1Cor is one side of an argument. To read scripture and take it on face value is dangerous and confusing. In 1Cor 14, Paul seams to say that women are not allowed to speak in church, just two chapters earlier he is laying out the rules for how they should prophesy in church, it can't mean both! So, we need to show a little humility and understand that we are not all Biblical scholars and, at least from time to time, need a little help.
What your saying is that in order to be saved we must be like Zacharia....doesn't make much sense. The Holy Spirit is Jesus spirit that's why your so confused. When Jesus resides in you you are spirit filled.
If you read your Bible you will see that Paul prays for people who already have Jesus but need to be filled with the Holy Spirit [at least four occasions in Acts].
Read Acts 19 1-6 appollos didn't know about the Holy Ghost or baptism as soon as he heard Paul laid hands on him and the others and they were filled with the Holy Ghost and begin to speak in tounges. and they were also baptised. Jesus said he would come back as the comforter not someone else. The Holy Ghost is His spirit the Spirit of God.
So, in this pasage, they were baptised first [believed first], and the baptism of the Holy Spirit was a subsequent and separate event. Granted the events were very close together, but clerly they were separate. We can't put the work of the Holy Spirit in to a single event. He works in our lives and regenerates us at conversion, then subsequently, when we ask or when hands are laid on us, we are baptised with power. I don't think you can conclude anything else from a proper reading of the text.
If you claim that speaking in tongue is normative, then the works of Jesus are diminished. Speaking in tongue is one sign of the HS. Nowhere in the bible do you find a normative statement claiming that you Need to exhibit physical manifestation of these particular spiritual gifts. The work of the Holy Spirit is apparent when peoples hearts change to have a new-found proclivity towards the things that Jesus did; an example of this is a heart for the poor, social justice.
I think what your saying is partially true but being spirit fileld always started with the infilling of the Holy Ghost and with the evidence of speaking in tounges along with Baptism. These together started the walk of the christian. Your comment about the white suited man on a throw however is not quite true. Maybe you should visit a real spirit filled church and then make the aqusations. Real spirit filled people have signs that follow them. Mark 16 vs 17-18. If your real no need to justify.

You are physically animated, yet mentally dead. I see you awake but you are not really there. You walk around in a hollow shell. Living a life of mental stagnation. Seeking the comfort of reassuring lies. Your shallow mind, in a church of fools. Living a life of willing ignorance. Never thinking, forever dim. Nothing's more pathetic than a brainless drone. Vicious cycles of lies to cover lies. Just another robot in factory of falsehoods. A hollow puppet controlled by strings.
RobertBaral365 sorry your comment got hidden, it's revealing...
I hardly think people like CS Lewis, John Donne, Francis Collins (who headed the Human Genome Project) and many others qualify as brainless or mentally stagnant; that tells me you don't know how to answer their lively and intelligent arguments and so must resort to ad hominem insult.
Try this too: mentally animated, but spiritually dead.
As Macduff said upon hearing Macbeth had killed his family: Hum.
Stupefying your mind in religious sleep. Caustic trumpery from your pitiful god. Centuries of lies to bolster belief. Empty words and useless faith. Resting beside your infirm prayers. Mindless and empty, false and absurd. Your sleep is sheltered with willing ignorance. It is time to celebrate the serpent's choice. So enthralling is Satan's wisdom. Death to dullards with the powers of Old Nick. Open your eyes to the shadowy truth. The search for enlightenment lies with the devil.
CS Lewis? The one with the fallacious trilemma? Frances Collins (who is an administrator, BTW) said he became convinced of Jesus' divinity after seeing a frozen waterfall with three streams. You would characterize these arguments as "lively and intelligent"? Really?
Excellent.....the longer I walk with Christ and experience the workings of the Spirit, the more I understand that I am helpless. We are nothing without the love of the Father and the grace he has poured out onto us.
I really enjoyed this video! It is really one of the best discussions on the filling of the Spirit that I have heard in a long time. Keep up the great work!

AwakeningMindz 1 year ago
@AwakeningMindz You do realize that atheism has been around since the beginning and has always been an option......
Consciously deciding to be atheist does not make you enlightened, sorry. The French were saying all that you are saying now 200 years ago and look where their "rationalism" and "atheism" got them. (even constructed a temple to "Reason"!)
Wait...you are NOT a helpless animal? A germ could strike you down at any moment, how pathetic you must be to be killed by something so small
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit I am not an atheist, first of all. Obviously we where constructed of some divin intervention. Yes, a germ can kill you if you are stupid enough to take government vaccine that lower your immunity levels. With that said, that doesnt mean I have to believe a tax free system of a faules church that claims to speak to a GOD of any type. We are not alive to serve anything, the creator is apart of us. Not sepreate from us. I dont care what some bullshit book says, wake up brotha.
AwakeningMindz 1 year ago
@AwakeningMindz Except the Bible explains current events quite well.....
We ALL worship something, whether we are conscious of it or not. Most are self-centered and serve only their own interests. Many serve money, fame, temporary pleasure, etc.
The God of the Bible is Love, and apparently you did not get the memo. The Bible is also clear that God is not separate from us, although we cause separation through hate. Obviously you are in no position to comment on what you do not understand.

@AwakeningMindz "Obviously we where constructed of some divin intervention"
How is that obvious in any way at all?
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit Of course, everybody is born as an atheist. And everyone who does not believe in every god ever invented in the history of man is a atheist to a certain degree.
Atheism is not some ideology thats designed to play on your feelings and make you feel good. It is the observation that there is no evidence at all that suggests a god exists.
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick Actually no one is born with a conscious understanding that there is no God, even if you are correct.
One is born being neither an atheist or theist, as the thought of deity is not in all of their minds. Atheism is something one is conscious of being.
Christianity is about feeling good? That is always the worst argument. If I just wanted to feel good I would go back to being atheist.
Christianity is literally about suffering....(thus the symbol of a crucified man....)
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit Atheism is not the claim that there is no god. Atheism is not being anything, it is a word used to describe those without a belief in a god.
Someone who does not collect stamps is well aware that he does not collect them, that however does not make not collecting stamps something you actively do.
I never said Christianity is about feeling good, you are using straw man arguments.
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick Christianity is entirely centered on "picking up your cross", which means willfully suffering for the cause of loving Christ and our neighbors.
Atheism is "eat, drink and play for tomorrow we die".
Atheism makes no demands of a person at all. You can be a fulfilled atheist who sits in his room all day playing video games and only doing things for yourself. Christianity is hardly about happiness...*sigh*
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit Organized religion is centered on the control of people, Christianity included.
"Atheism makes no demands of a person at all."
Of course it doesnt. Why would it? Are you surprised that not believing in pink unicorns makes no demands of a person?
You seem to have problems understanding what atheism is.
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick And you are free from control? You are not controlled by the love of your life and the concerns of this world? You are not free but are burdened by the petty things of this present world and the pleasures that drive you.
Christ was a man about control? Moses was a man of control? Why does the Bible make it a point to point out all the faults of Moses and all the other prophets of old?
Control for what purpose? Christ did not start a temporal priesthood!
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit Free from the control of religion? No, in my country half of the cabinet of the government needs to be Lutheran Christian by law.
The difference of being controlled by reality, and being controlled by religion is that religion is specifically made to control. And you cannot escape reality and still be alive, though you can escape religion.
Christ Jesus is a character in a book. Moses is a character in a book. What the bible says, or does not say is irrelevant in that regard.
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick Jesus is a character? Fairly certain virtually all serious Biblical critics, atheist or not, are confident in the existence of Christ. Every serious scholar asserts that the writings of Paul and Mark were written a few decades at most from the life of Christ.
In fact the existence of the Jews is proof enough! Do you know how many times they were conquered by a foreign nation? The writers of the Bible were quite confident of their claims, and they seem quite accurate.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit Im sure there were someone called Jesus at the time, probably many with that name.
How you conclude that the existence of Jews are proof for the accuracy of the bible is beyond me.
Im sure Nostradamus was quite confident in his claims, and depending on how you interpret them they can seem quite accurate.
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick Israel became a nation again after being dispersed almost 2,000 years. That is unprecedented and explicitly predicted by OT prophets.
I cite the Jews because their existence alone after being conquered at least 7 different times by foreign nations is unprecedented and predicted by these prophets very explicitly.
You cannot ignore the prophecy in Genesis concerning Islam. (Ishmael)
You cannot ignore the prophecy by Christ concerning Ishmael (Islam) and Isaac (Israel).
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick Nostradamus' predictions are vague and he made thousands of them. The Bible makes a few very clear predictions that do not make us bend backward to make them believable.
"Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, `Give them up!' and to the south, `Do not hold them back.' Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth"
Seems a lot clearer than Nostradamus.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick And you will no doubt try to argue, "that is a self fulfilled prophecy!" but the fact that the Jews survived as a cohesive social unit for the 2,000 years it took to fulfill this prophecy should refute such an attempt.
The fact that the Catholic Church tried for over a 1,000 of those years to prevent the Jews from returning to that land also refutes that.
That begs the question, why was it never self fulfilled sooner?
That is just one mild example
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit Ah but it IS a self-fulfilling prophecy. Jews surviving as a choesive social unit for 2000 years does not in any way refute that.
Any action on behalf of the Catholic Church does not refute that either.
As for why it was not fulfilled earlier, it is a meaningless question.
All you are doing is arguing with assumptions.
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick It is an explicit prediction that happened around 2,500 years after the fact. Jews returned to Israel from literally EVERY nation.
How was it self fulfilled? You speak as if it was done solely to fulfill the prophecy, whereas it was for political reasons which had absolutely nothing to do with fulfilling this prophecy and was only considered because of the Holocaust.
If there was no Holocaust there would be no Israel. This is an established fact.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit How it was self fulfilled? By Jews returning to Israel and by throwing out people living there.
It was probably done for both political reasons, and because the holy texts said they would return.
"If there was no Holocaust there would be no Israel."
No this is not a fact. You have no reason at all to call this speculation a fact, because you have provided no evidence at all, and your so called fact is not testable.
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick I would not suspect the average youtube atheist to know much about the history of the Jews
Who cares if it was done for political reasons? That does not prevent this prediction FROM ACTUALLY HAPPENING. If you were to look at the Jews during the second century and say that their text would be influential enough to determine anything like a forceful return to their homeland every Roman in the world would have laughed at you.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick How else were they supposed to return to their homeland?! You also just drew another parallel with the way in which they returned to Israel the first time. (Yet another one of this silly self fulfilled prophecies and parallels I guess)
The fact Jews had political influence enough to manage this defies all odds.
How do you explain the prophecy in Isaiah that says, "Syria will worship with Egypt"? (Islam) Let me guess, it was a lucky guess.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick Atheism is so simple that it takes no thought to understand it! I speak as a person who was an atheist the great majority of my life. You are not free, you worship gods but do so unknowingly and in ignorance.
Every living person has a god that they worship. Even though you are an atheist your attention is drawn to so many idols it is impossible to even count them all.
Again the pink unicorn comparison makes absolutely no sense and is tired from being used so much.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit How do you know I worship gods? How can you have been an atheist the majority of your life when in fact you do not know what atheism is?
Saying that every living person has a god they worship is an assumption, and unless you back it up with evidence, it is horse dung.
I used the pink unicorn comparison because you obviously have a hard time understanding what atheism is. You seem to want it to be something it is not.
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick I do not know what atheism is? A-THEIST. IT is hardly complicated.....*sigh*
Atheism is the REJECTION of any belief in "deity".
A natural human, as you say, would not have a conception of atheism OR theism. How can you reject a concept you have never considered or heard?
Again God cannot be compared with a pink unicorn. Do I need to explain why again? The comparison is illogical and tired. You are repeating something you heard
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit Atheism is a lack of a belief in a god. The word actually means "without god". Someone who does not know of a specific god, has no more belief in that specific god then someone who knows about it and has "rejected" the belief.
You havent explained why my comparison makes no sense, all you did was tell me it did not make any sense. But sure, go ahead and explain specifically why the comparison I made makes no sense.
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick Your comparison makes no sense because a pink unicorn could NOT possibly have created the Universe.
Richard Dawkins says he is 99% sure there is no God. One reason for this is because the God of the Bible is NOT material and therefore can exist prior to the material world.
Pink unicorn CANNOT; it is pink and therefore its existence is contingent on the existence of light.
The God of the Bible's existence is contingent on nothing other than Himself.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit How do you know that a pink unicorn could not have created the universe? It could have done so from another universe in a multiverse. Any supposed "spiritual" world could also very well feature laws of nature. Either way I never made such a claim.
My comparison was between atheism and not believing in pink unicorns.
The God of the bible appeared as a burning bush, which clearly reflects light.
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick Well the existence of the color pink, like I said, is contingent upon the existence of white light as it exists in our universe. Well once again if this pink unicorn existed in another universe the universe then this unicorn's existence is STILL contingent upon the existence of this "other" universe.
That was not literally God and NO ONE suggests that it was. If it was Moses would not have asked to see God like he does in the wilderness at a later time.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick God is never described in terms of color, because that would involve some part of his being as being contingent upon some created thing.
Zeus? He has a material body and such a being could not have existed prior to this universe as modern cosmology demonstrates.
The Bible says "God is spirit" meaning he is not temporal and none of his characteristics depend upon some preexisting material.
Besides, those pagan gods were literally the items they symbolized.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit Again, burning bush.
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick Anything that has any measure of control in your life is an idol that you worship. To say you have nothing in your life which controls your actions speaks to your level of delusion. You only imagine yourself free, when in reality you are basically controlled by petty objects and thoughts.
You, being an atheist, probably hate it when your intelligence is insulted. You therefore worship Horus.
As if worship has anything to do with attending a religious place.....
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit "Anything that has any measure of control in your life is an idol that you worship"
Just because you think something is true, does not make it true. You are just making assumptions and spewing out conjecture. You assume to know all kinds of things about other people, when in fact you have no clue at all.
"You, being an atheist, probably hate it when your intelligence is insulted. You therefore worship Horus."
No I do not worship Horus, why would you think that?
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit You are defining words to suit your own purpose, which is fine as long as you dont project that definition upon other people. People define "god" in all sorts of ways, many simply call nature "god". I dont. I define god as a deity in a religion.
You also define worship to suit your own purpose. The word worship is DERIVED from an Old English word that means to give worth to something. How is the Old English definition "the proper understanding"?
I do not have a god.
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick You do not give worth to things? If one worships anything it becomes his god and has power over him.
Your definition is a very suitable one!
Someone who plays video games an inordinate amount of time worships the vanity.
Why is Love not the object we should be worshiping? I am ready for you to argue in support of Horus at anytime, given that you probably believe "science" should be the foundation of our society.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit I do, but that does not mean I define it as worship. You did not answer my question though;
How is the Old English definition "the proper understanding" of a word that has derived from it?
Love can mean any number of things to different people.
Science IS the foundation of our society.
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick So Horus is the foundation of our society?. I agree with you. I do not think you understand the pagan gods very well. They were merely personifications of objects, concepts or anything else one could imagine or see.
Horus was (is) the personification of wisdom itself. It does not take faith to believe in wisdom.
"In the beginning was Love, and Love was with God and Love was God"
My God is Love, as nothing else is worth striving or fighting for.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit No, science is the foundation of our society, and science is not the same as Horus. Horus is the name of two different Egyptian gods, one being a sungod, the other was Sets brother. Later they merged into one as far as Egyptian mythology is concerned.
Perhaps I do not understand the pagan gods very well, which is irrelevant. There is no evidence that any of them exists or existed. But I do understand what science is, and I can assure you that science is not a mythological god
thisisnotanick 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick Actually if you properly understand them you will know exactly what Horus is and how he (or it) is the foundation of modern society.
You do not listen. Horus was not some invisible deity, he was LITERALLY the PERSONIFICATION of wisdom. Horus IS knowledge and understanding, not an invisible god.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@thisisnotanick Wikipedia is not going to help you understand what Horus is. Maybe you should read Joseph Campbell or someone else that has a deep understanding of this topic. The superficial understanding is that these gods were invisible deities and their representations were exactly that, literal images of these invisible gods. That is not the reality. The reality is that these gods, again, were personifications of VISIBLE things which required NO faith whatsoever.

PiroHamster 2 years ago
i agree with everything of this message, however I believe that we all have the opportunity to have the gift of speaking in tongues. I know we are given spiritual gifts as it says in the bible, but we are sons and daughters of the Living God, we inherit more than we can imagine! ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE.
Jacki79 2 years ago 11
@Jacki79 1 Corinthians 12:11 "All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines." it is not up to us, friend. and the gifts are 'not for the believer, but for the non-believer'.
the church should love, (1 cor. 13) but "love.. does not seek its own (or is not self-seeking)"
BUT "he who speaks in a tongue (unknown language) edifies HIMSELF" its not about us. its about edifying. please read all of 1 Cor. my friend and i hope God touches you. :)

@crunkpunk777

PastorDClift 10 months ago

1 Corinthians 12-14 teaches us that the most important gifts of the Spirit are the gifts of faith, hope and above all love. Not sensational ones, such as speaking in tongue. The New testament witness never considers it crucial for Christian spirituality although it is very helpful. We always need to remember that a true gift of the Spirit builds up the community and contributes to the common good rather than only the self-aggrandizement of a few.

gregnheb 2 years ago
Most people don't get the cultural scene and that 1Cor is one side of an argument. To read scripture and take it on face value is dangerous and confusing. In 1Cor 14, Paul seams to say that women are not allowed to speak in church, just two chapters earlier he is laying out the rules for how they should prophesy in church, it can't mean both! So, we need to show a little humility and understand that we are not all Biblical scholars and, at least from time to time, need a little help.
dfmansfield 2 years ago
What your saying is that in order to be saved we must be like Zacharia....doesn't make much sense. The Holy Spirit is Jesus spirit that's why your so confused. When Jesus resides in you you are spirit filled.
gregnheb 2 years ago
If you read your Bible you will see that Paul prays for people who already have Jesus but need to be filled with the Holy Spirit [at least four occasions in Acts].
dfmansfield 2 years ago
Read Acts 19 1-6 appollos didn't know about the Holy Ghost or baptism as soon as he heard Paul laid hands on him and the others and they were filled with the Holy Ghost and begin to speak in tounges. and they were also baptised. Jesus said he would come back as the comforter not someone else. The Holy Ghost is His spirit the Spirit of God.
gregnheb 2 years ago
So, in this pasage, they were baptised first [believed first], and the baptism of the Holy Spirit was a subsequent and separate event. Granted the events were very close together, but clerly they were separate. We can't put the work of the Holy Spirit in to a single event. He works in our lives and regenerates us at conversion, then subsequently, when we ask or when hands are laid on us, we are baptised with power. I don't think you can conclude anything else from a proper reading of the text.
dfmansfield 2 years ago
If you claim that speaking in tongue is normative, then the works of Jesus are diminished. Speaking in tongue is one sign of the HS. Nowhere in the bible do you find a normative statement claiming that you Need to exhibit physical manifestation of these particular spiritual gifts. The work of the Holy Spirit is apparent when peoples hearts change to have a new-found proclivity towards the things that Jesus did; an example of this is a heart for the poor, social justice.
haitsjesse 2 years ago
I think what your saying is partially true but being spirit fileld always started with the infilling of the Holy Ghost and with the evidence of speaking in tounges along with Baptism. These together started the walk of the christian. Your comment about the white suited man on a throw however is not quite true. Maybe you should visit a real spirit filled church and then make the aqusations. Real spirit filled people have signs that follow them. Mark 16 vs 17-18. If your real no need to justify.
