Well, I know what you're talking about - there are those people who can cross or uncross just one eye. I can't do it. There is something called Vision Therapy which can help you learn to move your eyes, but that is to help your eyes move together - like they're supposed to... Google "home vision therapy" or "brock string." There is no evolutionary benefit for humans to move their eyes independently, so it would be hard to find any research on this.
Is there a way to practice, so that you can control duction? Move one eye, keep the other still. Or... move them far apart to the outside corners? left and right exotropia at the same time? hehe, even if you could only do one at a time... i would like to know...
