Some beginning reading books don't work well for reading comprehension, because there is nothing to comprehend. They use nonsense phrases and NO STORIES! Unless it's a story, there isn't much to comprehend.
"An Ant - Learn to Read" is really good for teaching reading comprehension, because it is about 95% stories. It's probably perfect for 4 or 5-year-olds, but you could definately use just the included flash cards for younger kids.
