i'm a stagehand at the met opera in n.y. and have had the chance to see some of the greatest singers the world has to offer and i can tell you there is not a one that can match Natalie Dessay. she is the best of the best
you can call this anything, but La Traviata ; a cat would sound better.......how don't they hear she messes up it all from beginning to end! Shame for singing such a wonderful piece like that!
We are so Lucky. She is coming to Aix-en-Provence this summer, July 2011 (south of France Lyric Festival) with the LSO and Charles castronovo. Cant wait.
Dessay's voice is like no other. To me, it's one of the purest and most beautiful I've heard. I'm in no way an expert on opera but I know beauty when I hear it. This, right here, this is true artistry.

Natalie Dessay, in her continued progress towards greater artistry, still doesn't know what opera is about ..
In recent years, Dessay's top notes have been shrieky and metallic, cold, effortful, and generally unpleasant to the ear. The disdain she has for top notes is therefore understandable. Meravigliosa...come cantante leggera. Ha una voce piccolissima, per niente adatta al ruolo, e che nasconde con filati e mezzevoci. Ha solo acuti facili non sorretti, però, da giusta e studiata intenzione. Mostra, però, di saper stare sulla scena, almeno nella prima parte del video; buona la sua recitazione. Deve ancora approfondire lo studio della dizione italiana.
Dessay ha iniziato a cantare tardi, non ha la tecnica necessaria e la sua voce s'è rovinata presto perché il cantare senza tecnica, specialmente il repertorio da soprano di coloratura, le ha provocato danni seri alle corde vocali.

Nathalie Dessay, qu'on l'aime ou pas est une grande chanteuse, mais là, elle est à côté de la plaque. Après je conçois pour elle que cela soit tentant, c'est le rêve de beaucoup de sopranos Violetta, mais je ne suis pas du tout fan de ce qu'elle fait dans ce répertoire.

Natalie dessay est une très bonne actrice (je l'ai adoré dans la Fille du Regiment au cotés de JDF meme si ses aigus sont pas super fluides....) mais là elle est mauvaise en tant qu'actrice! elle a pas compris du tout le role de Violetta
@Zombiemuffins13 Yes this was after the surgery. She does sound amazing doesn't she?? She had said in an interview that her voice had gotten better after the surgery and could now sing roles that she couldn't sing before or sing them better. The voice she has now is what she has always wanted and worked for all her life, according to her. :-)
Some people say that Natalie is "lovely". It is very true she is lovely, but also she did sing very powerful even though she was smiling. Sure she worked so hard. She developed her inner muscles so much balanced and circulated energy all over the body. Wonderful.

This was an abysmal performance. Not by Dessay but who ever the conductor was. I don't think he's read the score at all. The first part was too up beat and fast, the second was too pulsed and mellow, Dessay did a good job with what she was handed but really this was awful.

Callas is so great she is much better than Dessay - come to think of it - Dessay sucks and her dreadful voice makes me vomit. Her recent Hamlet was so awful in terms of acting and singing that the audience was running out of the MET in hundreds screaming: We paid for that!!! Shame! When will the MET put an end to this terrible rip off? We want our money back!
@sebastien29200 she dropped out of the Met Hamlet performance due to illness. German soprano Marlis Petersen took over for her. Dessay unfortunitally didn't sing it, though Petersen did a very good job.

@ad80ad Callas or Netrebko have nothing to do with those idiot people... But the truth is that on Every Callas video, there are lots of dirty horrible comments from Netrebko FANATIC fans (Sometimes is only 1 or 2 fan with several accounts)... and on Netrebko's videos something similar happens, as you say.
Its a shame! Few minutes ago I was listening to a Callas video and Its just sad what insults one or two ideots can make to such amazing artists...
1- A lot of DESSAY fanatics INSULTED Anna Netrebko and her son months ago, like Leoperarm who said:"Anna Netrebko is a whore" and other HUNDREDS of dirty comments that have NOTHING to do with music.
2 - some insults to Anna Netrebko from DESSAY FANS were then copied and pasted under Callas videos because Netrebko videos were uploaded and controlled by them and we could not stop insults.
Now if someone likes to bash Callas it's not our problem.
People should talk about Music... not about insults or others' personal lifes.

@phlenopsis006 Tu exagères quand meme!!! mais je pense aussi que Traviata c pas du tout pour elle ! et d'ailleurs tout le monde a l'air de trouver son interpretation juste et super... j'adore Natalie dessay mais elle n'a meme pa l'air de comprendre ce qu'elle chante ici , elle s'occupe de faire de jolis sons... la voix est très pure mais trop pour ce role! ecoutez Angela Gheorghiu pour son interpretation en 1994 , là c vraiment pour moi comment il faut jouer et interpreter ces airs.

(outre La Callas bien sur, qui était de loin pour moi la meilleure interprète. et lorsque je dis interprète ce n'est pas seulement chanter bien, c'est surtout jouer bien, être une bonne actrice. Natalie dessay est une très bonne actrice (je l'ai adoré dans la Fille du Regiment au cotés de JDF meme si ses aigus sont pas super fluides....) mais là elle est mauvaise en tant qu'actrice! elle a pas compris du tout le role de Violetta

@Zombiemuffins13 Yes this was after the surgery. She does sound amazing doesn't she?? She had said in an interview that her voice had gotten better after the surgery and could now sing roles that she couldn't sing before or sing them better. The voice she has now is what she has always wanted and worked for all her life, according to her. :-)

Some people say that Natalie is "lovely". It is very true she is lovely, but also she did sing very powerful even though she was smiling. Sure she worked so hard. She developed her inner muscles so much balanced and circulated energy all over the body. Wonderful.

This was an abysmal performance. Not by Dessay but who ever the conductor was. I don't think he's read the score at all. The first part was too up beat and fast, the second was too pulsed and mellow, Dessay did a good job with what she was handed but really this was awful.

Callas is so great she is much better than Dessay - come to think of it - Dessay sucks and her dreadful voice makes me vomit. Her recent Hamlet was so awful in terms of acting and singing that the audience was running out of the MET in hundreds screaming: We paid for that!!! Shame! When will the MET put an end to this terrible rip off? We want our money back!

@sebastien29200 she dropped out of the Met Hamlet performance due to illness. German soprano Marlis Petersen took over for her. Dessay unfortunitally didn't sing it, though Petersen did a very good job.

But the truth is that on Every Callas video, there are lots of dirty horrible comments from Netrebko FANATIC fans (Sometimes is only 1 or 2 fan with several accounts)... and on Netrebko's videos something similar happens, as you say.
Its a shame! Few minutes ago I was listening to a Callas video and Its just sad what insults one or two ideots can make to such amazing artists...

1- A lot of DESSAY fanatics INSULTED Anna Netrebko and her son months ago, like Leoperarm who said:"Anna Netrebko is a whore" and other HUNDREDS of dirty comments that have NOTHING to do with music.
2 - some insults to Anna Netrebko from DESSAY FANS were then copied and pasted under Callas videos because Netrebko videos were uploaded and controlled by them and we could not stop insults.
Now if someone likes to bash Callas it's not our problem.

Your words are fantastic, so moving...but you know...if someone insults for months a person that I admire (Netrebko) or that is near me (friend, parent, relative etc.), the thing is not very pleasant and I feel the need to do something.
For example if I say now:"This filty whore is a fat sow and she's just good for lick my hog clean" and I repeat it thousand times in THIS channel, you could understand what I mean. Peace and love! (when someone don't wants a war with me).
