Cannot forget the first time watching & I saw this opera piece go progressive as just one of many fantastic thrills in the Fifth Element. This version of Diva Dance [a remix of "Lucia di Lammermoor"] sung by Inva Mulla Tchako is so effortless and unexaggerated. IMO More elegant than the Sarah Brightman cover or others.
When this unexpected scene came up in the movie I was actually moved to tears right there in the theater because of the absolutely perfect voice - so beautiful as to feel like it hurt even! Hurt because I knew nothing else would ever be as subime as that sound ever!
Only recently, too, have I discovered that it was actually Inva Mula-Tchako tha actually performmed this piece for the movie vice so many erroneous credits for Sarah Brightman.
The singer (whose name is properly written, "Inva Mula-Çako") is Albanian. Maïwenn Le Besco is the actress who portrayed Plavalaguna. Maïwenn is a Brythonic Celtic name, seen in both Brittany and Wales, and - spelled differently - in Cornwall.
born in albania in 1963 named Inva Mula but credited as Inva Mula Tchako, singing Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor.....definitely not sarah brightman...lol
Inva Mula Tchako sang this fools. Sarah Brightman couldn't even come CLOSE to fufilling this operetic arrangement. It's from Lucia di Lammermoor, it's an excerpt the aria "Il Dolce Suono" (up until the electronics take over) and the vocalist (Inva Mula) is different from the physical actress playing Plavalaguna (Maïwenn Le Besco). Check The Internet Movie Database people before your amateur "opera knowledge" makes you look like a fool.
omegaoka is right!....Inva Mula Tchako sang this song. Some of the vocal parts in "The Diva Dance" were thought to be physically impossible to produce, but musicians are well aware that they are, depending on the singer, and it was stated in the movie's Special Edition that her voice was not digitally altered.
I must confess, not to be a fan of opera ( or vocal music generally), but this was something so rarely beautiful, the scene from this film stayed with me ever since.
amo a Plavalaguna y a Leelo alias Multipase !

What is the name of the piece she sings?
Witchcraft13 4 years ago
It is Il dolce suono (The Sweet Sound), from the third act of the opera Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti.
Inva Mula-Tchako performs it in the film The Fifth Element.
Vitas performs it in music video Vitas - Lucia Di Lammermoor (Il dolce suono) - found on Youtube.

She is Inva Mula Tchako. EVen though Sarah has a great voice, this is somehow out of her league.
