At first listen this piece is absolutely piercing and makes one stop cold and consider the emotional wreckage caused by selfishness and thoughtless malice. The lyric " be careful how you end me" is especially illuminating.
Yeah, we know all Madonna's queen of the talentless 'hos and she's who all of the other little bitches learned from. What does this have to do with real musicians like Patty G? Of course there are real musicians who are glam/over the top too like Dusty, Kate Bush, Nina Hagen, Alison Goldfrapp, Karen O & Karin/Fever Ray. However you could still separate all that form the music and you've still got something real underneath. Not the case with Madonna and the likes.
I venture to suggest that this song is better than any and all the songs Madonna and her like have written in total. And this is just ONE song off 5 exquisite albums that patty griffin has made. THE outstanding female singer/songwriter of the 21st century so far (and there are some extremely good ones. Fantastic!
Mariah Carey writes songs about herself. Like her last album was written about her first relationship, that older guy, and now she's a free butterfly. Her songs suck, Madonna's songs suck, hey have no meaning. Patty's songs have meaning that touch the heart. Can any of them write one song that brings tears to your eyes, even once? and I won't even mention Brittney, Lisa Marie (who wrote poetry since she was 4? I couldn't even spell my name when I was in kindergarten! lol)...
When I listen to this song it makes me cry so much because I think about the exploitation of young women and how fragile their hearts are throughout the whole world. This is the song I want played at my funeral for my mom and dad to hear because they just tossed me out to the world, dying, living in my car, physically sick with a serious illness. Patty is unbelievably talented.
I am an Mainer, like Patty, and what she is telling all of us is when you are in a relationship...consider it very fragile and precious..as there is another human being at the end of the relationship...so be care how you bend me...be careful where you send me...be careful how you end me..be careful with me...as with me (many of us) people are not careful how we 'end' relationships...there is always someone at the end of the rope. Amazing song and poet.
1224 views? How is it possible that millions of people watch Mariah Carey videos and only 1224 people have taste enough to appreciate this remarkable, beautiful and talented woman? It's a crazy world; somebody ought to sell tickets.
Thanks for posting this — I like this song very much... and here the beginning make me smile : "all the girls in the New York night..." there's always a strange path between New York & Paris, don't you think ?
