I worked on the Alaskan Pipeline and I can tell you every precaution was taken, whether it was State mandated, or self-mandated, and we all followed and created safety regulations to leave the area safer than we found it, and we did just that. You want to stop using oil and your crap will be closer to you in less than one year. And if you really are an environmentalist and love the "French" then you would surely not be against Nuclear power, hum?

@klg1956 : Side note about the Alaskan pipeline: every time it has leaked, thousands of gallons get loose over the course of days and even weeks before anyone is aware of the problem. Over-land pipes aren't the solution either. Oil and coal are nasty ways to create power, and while I completely believe you that the best work possible was done, the truth remains that leaks do occur and oil companies aren't interested in safe, clean operation or complete cleanups.

Dumb ass the Exxon Valdez was shipping oil from a US port to a US refinery. It was not shipping IN oil. All that Oil was Alaskan oil. And Alaskan's are not mad that the oil was drilled for or even that it is shipped their problem is that Exxon failed to take proper precautions to prevent this spill and they failed to have the proper manpower and equipment at the port of Valdez on hand to respond to a spill before it could spread. Years before the spill many people tried to expose Exxon.

I worked on the Alaskan Pipeline and I can tell you every precaution was taken, whether it was State mandated, or self-mandated, and we all followed and created safety regulations to leave the area safer than we found it, and we did just that. You want to stop using oil and your crap will be closer to you in less than one year. @klg1956 : Side note about the Alaskan pipeline: every time it has leaked, thousands of gallons get loose over the course of days and even weeks before anyone is aware of the problem. Over-land pipes aren't the solution either. Oil and coal are nasty ways to create power, and while I completely believe you that the best work possible was done, the truth remains that leaks do occur and oil companies aren't interested in safe, clean operation or complete cleanups.

Dumb ass the Exxon Valdez was shipping oil from a US port to a US refinery. It was not shipping IN oil. All that Oil was Alaskan oil. And Alaskan's are not mad that the oil was drilled for or even that it is shipped their problem is that Exxon failed to take proper precautions to prevent this spill and they failed to have the proper manpower and equipment at the port of Valdez on hand to respond to a spill before it could spread. Years before the spill many people tried to expose Exxon.

I see a personality difference between Gov. Palin and VP Palin. Gov. Palin is confident and convicted. VP Palin is fake and rehearsed. I like the real Palin, and I'm glad the fake one is gone.

They scripted her way too much...I wish they'd let her be herself...she would have made mistakes, but the blunders probably would not have been near as bad as when they put their thumb on her and limited everything she did and who she talked to. she was obviously caught between a rock and a hard place. it's a shame. i think she's very intelligent, and she's obviously doing a great job in alaska.

I have asserted that this decision was political. Several readers and Bob Ward have suggested that the decision was based solely an effort to police misrepresentations of science by Exxon and groups that it funds.

He's accomplished and can "get things done". He's level-headed - He's "different" and we are all craving something "different". Sarah signed the natural gas pipeline contract worth at least $24 billion that will run through Canada to the Chicago area. It was signed against the wishes of Exxon and other big players who have delayed this project for 30 years. Sarah did the best thing for the whole country by signing this contract just 3 days before McCain picked her to be his VP. Sarah does not play favourites, unlike almost all of the goofs in Washington.
