  • Mary Hopkins' version was actually pretty good.

  • that "julia" type pickings called travis its used on a lot of songs by a lot of artists

  • you know he gave it to mary hopkin and youve heard it a zillion times

  • The I Want You demo is REAL, it's from an interview John Lennon had with Akiva Nof, an Israeli reporter who interviewd John and Yoko in their Peace Bed-In.

You can find it here, although it's a short version of the interview so it's not the whole song, but it's the same recording -\

  • @BeatlesNRutlesBootle

it doesn't let me put the link, just look up "john lennon akiva nof", it's on my channel

  • It's interesting to think that songs like Oh my Love and Look at Me would have probably ended up as Beatle songs on a Beatles album if they had stayed together.

  • I think lennon just wrote a few songs around that dreamy picking style. And that's all. The songs sound "similar because they were probably written back to back or at the same time. I heard or read lennon say he learned how to pick from, Donovan

  • 0:53 Linda Took That Picture Its Titled "The Four Strangers"

  • The gtr sounds like Lennon tho

  • Donovan taught Lennon how to do these arpeggios in India..... he then went off to write Julia.....

  • That Oh My Love demo is amazing! The chord changes are really something. Would've loved to hear a full "White Album" version of it.

  • compared to the original oh my love, no but it really is good. sounds mellow

  • Paul did give 'Goodbye' to Mary Hopkin as her second single on Apple, after "Those Were The Days" (which was an adapted Russian folk song). But Paul wrote the song specifically for her.

  • wow, you hear john doing stream-of-consciousness in 'oh my love' and mentioning the unborn child he and yoko conceived, but was miscarried: "...record of your heartbeat, had a very strong heartbeat, that's gone now...". they recorded the fetus's heartbeat and put it on 'life with the lions'. touching, he was never afraid to be naked and honest when searching for song material... or for any other reason!

  • OOhhh¡¡¡¡¡ no words

  • The remarkable thing - and I remember reading this somewhere, but this is the first time I've actually heard it - that the "Wireless Machine" was really the basis for "Hello Goodbye" - and I really hear it here.

I agree that "I Want You" doesn't sound exactly like Lennon, but it still could be - it's just so digitally distorted and lo-fi that it's hard to tell.

  • Part one is "Everybody Had A Hard Year". It's not the same melody as "Julia", however, like several of John's songs at that time, it uses the same finger-picking pattern.

  • It sounds like "Look At Me" has a very similar guitar pattern to "Julia" and "Everybody Had A Hard Year". Seems like he just didn't know which song to put it in!

  • Cheers for posting, great stuff.

  • Nickelback stole this in their song "How you remind me!"

  • Its called Arpeggio not melody! Talking about I've got a feeling. The melody its what he is singing, and in the guitar he is doing and arpeggio.

  • Its actually a fingerpicking style called Travis Picking and was introduced to Lennon by Donovan in India. Lennon also used this style on "Dear Prudence".

  • HA ha cant believe there are people on here trying to say its not John. Shut up, of course it is. I heard a lot of these demos a long time ago. Many I havent heard before. Thanks for these astonishing tapes BenefitOfMrKite. The Beatles are alive and relevant now more than ever..

  • bullshit. that's lennon

  • Haha!! You can get these demos from a variety of sources, it's the exact same voice, it's lennon alright, but these demos help to show the great songs and performances didn't just spring full blown, but had to grow from mediocre beginnings. They were only human. Although McCartney's voice always sounds great, I almost prefer his voice low-fi

  • how can i get these bootlegs. anyone know???

  • I question the version of I want You(she's so heavy)

  • If you wanna be picky, the first song was called "Everyone Had A Hard Year".

  • merveilleux il sont les meilleurs

  • This is really cool! Hadn't heard most of these! Also a great demonstration of John's Travis Picking (ala Dear Prudence; Julia) and Paul's modified Travis Picking (ala Blackbird; Jenny Wren)

  • here's a video of John doing the I've Got A Feeling/Julia thing.

    youtube dot com/watch?v=a0PXbzgarCk

  • Photo No. 2, and a later one, show them dressed for their famous walk across the street.

  • Bullshit is that the Beatles at the end. It sounds like some fool on a mobile phone mic

  • thats john lennon alright

  • Ha, I didn't wait to the end. "Hello Israel" is him. Shouldna jumed in.

  • What a pleasure it is to listen...thx for posting.

  • his voice is so good even on the ruff demo

  • where did you get this stuff? cool stuff mate!

  • I love the version of Goodbye.

  • the song that starts at 05:25 just kills me. It starts of as Hello Goodbye and goes off into craziness. Is that Ringo behind the piano? I don't get it, which is fine!

  • great

  • Just when this "Beatle Person" thinks he's seen and heard it all, you've come up with some amazing demos and really rare pics as well. Nice post, Mr. Kite!

  • John's guitar picking at the beginning of what eventually became part of, 'I've Got A Feeling' sounds slightly similar to that of, 'Dear Prudence'... at least to me anyway.

  • well I guess he wrote it in india or sometime in the white album sessions

  • Yeah... that's the "travis picking pattern" that Donovan showed Lennon while they were in india... Used it on Julia and Dear Prudence on the white album.

  • I love that finger picking technic, sounds so cool, gentle and profound, Julia, Dear Prudence, Happiness is a warm gun, Look at me(plastic ono album), it's even on sun king and octupuss garden you can hear the travis picking on an electric guitar

  • Some lyrics from Oh My Love are featured here, a song from Lennon's Imagine LP. A beautiful song to boot.

  • thanks for letting us hear this!

  • Where did you get this from?

  • From some bootlegs I've got (I've got nearly 100 bootlegs, I think. xD).

  • @BenefitOfMrKite And where did you get THAT from? xD. thanks for sharing btw. really liked it..

  • Thanks for this!

  • I've got a feelin sounds like a development of Julia (Ocean child). John's song to his mom

  • Yeah, sounds like a development of Julia. The intro of Happiness Is A Warm Gun also does.

  • thanks for posting this up

  • @LeonSzillard I think lennon just wrote a few songs around that dreamy picking style. And that's all. The songs sound "similar because they were probably written back to back or at the same time. I heard or read lennon say he learned how to pick from, Donovan

  • Thank you!

  • Cool!

  • rhe best

  • nunca habia escuchado estas rarezas para mi son entre finales del 87 y finales de 1969,

  • Yes, Paul gave it to Mary (Goodbye).

  • I have this too. i bought it on a Russian boot leg.

  • cool. i never would have guessed..
