  • Hey guys, love your sense of humor!

Is it possible to take the 4GB HD out of a Rev. A 1998 Bondi Blue iMac and use it as an external storage for a 2007 Aluminum/Glass iMac through a drive dock or HD enclosure? Or is there a compatibility issue?

  • @RaunchyLarry I don't see why not -- however, why would you want to tie up some type of external exclosure (that drive is IDE, but do your research) with, by today's standards, a very small sized volume?

  • what is the piece of metal attached to the logic board? (you used to create the very nice music) please help, thank you

  • I still have one of these things running, now 10 years old. Runs fantastically (aside from trying to watch flash) and reliable as a rock.

  • Al, you and Adam make a wonderful team of geeks, and masters of bad jokes, and you make awesome videos!

  • @CarManiac225 Thank you. Make sure you watch all three "Holiday Hardware Hacking" videos (search for that phrase) as well as the TAM Unboxing. So many bad jokes, you'll probably vomit.

Thanks for the kind words. More to come from Adam B and I this year.

  • oh man you guys are hilarious! do more!

  • Hi! How are you says iMac

  • I hate PPC macs... At least it's easy to swap a few pieces of hardware compared to the new ones... until you need to rip it apart.

They do last longer than the new ones.

I have lots of pre-2000 computers still working... I fear they're going to outlive me.

  • what a great team you two make , both talented and entertaining.

  • Funny vid.

But the iMac is a great machine.

I recently got a iMac G3 500MHz from a second hand shop and it runs great.

I only upgraded the memory from 256MB to 1GB and installed MacOS 10.3.

  • keep os 3

  • i have a 400 mhz imac g3 sitting on my shelf.. i thought it was a logic board problem and never messed with it so one day i found a Powermac g3 (with matching monitor) for only 50 bucks.. it was then that i realized it was a hard drive problem, so i have a broken imac g3 (it wont boot even with a hard drive) sitting here.. my uncle is fixing my hard drive, so ill have an awesome Powermac g3 (B&W).. also your videos are awesome haha

  • I just purchased a 500mhz DV imac, 256mb ram 20gb hdd, MAC OS 9.2.2 they are great machines and are very quiet. not as quiet as my new 24" 2.8ghz core 2 duo imac unfortunately

can you hack an imac because my imac have osx 10.4.11 but i want leopard

  • buy/download a retail copy of 10.5 then.

  • I love the nuclear holocaust joke in this video :D

  • i thought that thing was called an eMac

  • This is the first version of the iMac, which has gone through several revisions. When Apple switched to G4 processor's the iMac was completely redesigned to the flat panel and spherical base. This style of computer was retained, slightly redesigned and called the eMac.

  • Some people affectionately call the iMac G4 the "iLamp" since it is similar in composure to a lamp... lol

  • Actually the eMac was specifically made for the education market (eDUCATION Mac). The eMac was released at the same time as the iMac G4. Apple knew most schools would prefer cheaper computers, so they released an education version of the iMac G4 called the eMac. The eMac was very similar to the iMac G4 except it had a CRT display, when the iMac had an LCD display. Now the eMac is a stripped down iMac with lower specs then the average consumer iMac. eMac could basically be called the iMac G3.5 :)

  • title change i think?

  • I wish I had a friend to do things like that with me,you're lucky man.

Nice Lisa by the way. those never had much success among consumers though, sadly : (

  • you kidding!! they sold about 5 hehe

  • You blew it..........

  • you said short video it almost 10 mins get it right

  • hes normanlly go for like 15 mins

  • wow i want imac

  • HDD Hard Disk Drive if im right?

  • we want apple for the win (8)

  • lol, that was awesome

  • lol

  • ha that end made me jump x] lolz

  • the imac is not going to survive and emp

    it's a shield it's not impenetrable...

and its just as much to prevent stuff like your speakers and such from screwing with your mac as it is for the mac to stop screwing with other components.

  • NO way you got a lisa!

    niceeeee

  • i love it when adamB pulls the case off and falls down XD

  • Hmmmm....Seems intresting but mostly Entertaining XD

  • Seagate does make good drives.

  • true that

  • BLEH, my Maxtor sucks. I hate it. Just like most of my PC, but still, it is loud, noisy, and runs hot. =P

  • The speakers will be melted, but you can plug in headphones.

  • Apple FTW!

  • Def

  • LOL. Bite me.

  • The imacs are tough little machines!

  • 5400 RPM unless you upgrade to a 7200 RPM

  • How many RPMs are the imac hard drives?

  • that blue imac is like the one im getting

  • because i can bastard

  • cool vid can i buy your grape imac lol

  • Al, when will we see the NeXT CUBE?

  • haha what is wrong with you guys?! upgrade already or stick with classic

  • Nothing's wrong. We both also have newer, more state of the art Macs. We just don't believe in abandoning the older ones so fast while they still have some use in them. So, we upgrade. And have fun while doing it. Of course, we did this before the release of OS X 10.5 Leopard...

  • man, i totally understand the use of older ones rather than trashing them. i've gotta g3 minitower sitting on the right side of this imac, and it's still got classic on it. :P

    ya gotta love sim city.

  • this guys rock

  • You shouldn't use a power drill to take the screws out.

  • It's a power screwdriver with adjustable torque. I keep the power setting low and only turn it up when I need to. Haven't stripped a screw yet...

  • Are the flat screens ones the new and better Imacs?

  • I wish my old G3 iMac still ran properly. The monitor is knackered and keeps displaying weirdly. The SVGA output is fine though. I'm gonna turn it into a web-server.

  • Oh goodness, I can remeber taking my G3 logic board all the time.

  • Hi,

I want to let you know, that I really like your videos. They are funny and good humour. greetings from europe ;-))

  • you guys are pretty funny. great vid.

  • why not just swap the processors?

  • Awesome. As always!

  • Hey adiblasi? can u put a PC Harddrive on those old G3 iMacs?

  • Only if it's smaller than 128 GBs and you format it with HFS.

  • Yea, im pretty shur you can, but under 128 GBs... i thnk

  • How did u put the airport card in the imac? Can you put n e wireless card in any iMac G3?

  • no buy an apple airport card, it installs near the RAM.

You actually gonna need to hunt for it on eBay

  • No only the slot loading ones.

  • You guys are freaking Funny!

  • where can u buy processors

  • ROFL! "I just got pwned. Whateva."

  • Funny stuff. I want to get a G3 or G4 to try MAC. Never tried ti and I don't know anyone who has one.

  • ebay!

  • I always wanted a imac but I would probly would of put Windows on it. LOL

  • How much $ for it? haha

  • al i must say you and your friend, both of you are a riot. At least you make computer repair videos fun.

  • Hey DJ - thanks. Hope you had a few good laughs!

  • heh, u guys are like my dad and my uncle...cept they know nothing about computers heh

  • Freek -- you MUST video both your Uncle and your Dad -- task them with a memory or a hard drive install -- that will be a riot! Just don't insult them - show them how to do it and let the jokes roll!

  • oh my god that was the best!!! did anyone else spot the ghost in the background??? it was spooky ,it comes near the end.

  • Where lol?

  • You have to watch past the black at the end -- you ALWAYS have to watch 'past the end' as sometimes I put in a quick bonus scene :)

  • Re: text to speech (the "whatever" line): Actually, I think Alfred's line is "Whatevuh". Forget 10.5's latest text to speech recognition... it'll be really advanced when it can replicate a Long Island accent. :)

  • 9:05 xD

    great video

    great song

  • Thanks, Ram.

  • LOL!!!!!!!!!! nice song with the heat sink shield :D:D:D

  • 802.11b wireless. Apple was the (I think) the first major computer company to make wireless a built-in (as opposed to third-party add-on) option in July 1999.

  • I can't wait for the Lisa, either! I had one many years ago when living in Japan. Boy was it S_L_O_W !!

  • dont die from the radiation. hahaha.

  • u and ur damn APPLE and MAC products

  • Once again, great job ,Al!!

this is informative, funny and entertaing as usual!! You and Adam really should

    do more together.

And it´s pretty much inspiring as well.:-)

I definately will shoot it, when I upgrade my 1gHz G4 running with

    ProTools 24 to 2ghz.

    my best

    Arnie

  • My Dad's PC upgrade did not go well. we went through 2 CPU's, 3 motherboards, 2 power supplies, 2 cases, 6 sticks of Memory (4 of them 2 GB and 2 of them 512 MB and any other parts you might think of. It was $ 500. we got it to work now with 2 GB of memory and a 2.0 GHz Intel core 2 duo and a Abit AB9 pro. I have the Mac. Never spent a single penny on It... exept for the RAM.

  • wow Al one of the best frigging videos ever! Adam B is awesome this was very very funny!... (hmm "frigging" is in Mac spell check :/ )

  • Awesome, I can't wait for the Lisa, and the Next Cube!

  • Excellent video! You and Adam B really make a great team. Very humorous too!

Anyway, I really liked the upgrade. My iMac G3 upgrade didn't go nearly as smooth, but it's working just fine. Don't you just love upgrading old Macs? :)

Also I'm looking forward to the Lisa and NeXT Cube videos! 5 stars and a favorite from me!

  • Wow, I saw old imac that is using G3 in a local computer store in an area that I live in.

  • Another cool video Alfred & DR Adam B.

Hope to see the Lisa in action...5 stars!

  • hahahahahaa, you guys must have been BOREDD!! nice

    grteetss, your buddy, Lynk

  • Good work Dr. Adam B! I love the Beatles "Here comes the drive" song! A classic! You need to make a YouTube video, of all your songs, and make an infomercial! "Classics like: Here comes the drive.." Thats a FF class song, and your Mac's FF class as well! Congrats xD! Keep them coming Alfred! CANT WAIT to see Lisa up and running!!!

  • I JUST GOT PWNED

  • Some really interesting stuff there Al. I love when you do vids where I learn something.
