clearly...you know not the history of the game...back when Pele was playing, the South American leagues could kick ass...but due to the economic climate, the Euro teams had all the cash, and as a result all good south Americans went to Europe

You may think Paulo is the best ever, and that's great...but don't make the argument against Pele by claiming he played in a shitty league not only is it not true, but it's moot because he dominated the world cups...make an argument against pele's game

of course the europen clubs tryed to get him to play in europe,ino this why becuz he is good but for me not the best evr.all the best players in fotball history well most of them hav played in a top europen team and contested for the europen cup.if pele went to europe and won a few league over there and a few europen cups and did well then id consider him the best ever but all i can judge him on is doing well in the world cup,doing good in brazil and then going to a the US a poor quility league

i think its strange how Pele, Diego Maradona, Zinedine Zidane and Johan Cruyff are all attacking players people tend to forget the quilitys of defenders ,during the 90s and early 21st century italain football was the best league in the world with the best players and most money.unlike the south and north american leagues of pele time.its good to talk to a person who knows there football which you clearly do but aswell i think its good that lots of people share differnt opinions on football

ye im irish too and seankinsellasean has no clue when it comes to football. pele was in my opinion the 2nd best to play the game, bettered only by maradona. as for seankinsella saying that maldini is the greatest ever??? while i'm not doubting maldinis ability and yes hes was a fantastic defender, i can name other defenders who were better than him. baresi, beckenbauer, cannavaro and bobby moore to name a few.

cannavaro hasnt been that good this season but he almost single-handedly won the world cup for italy in 2006. forget about the hand of god mate, just look at the goal diego scored ten mins later. greatest goal ever scored.

To DunluceWarlcok no, Italy won the World Cup because of Buffon in goal, Gattuso the dinamo, Pirlo the playmaker, Totti the fantasista and Toni the goalscorer, and of course along with Canna the heart of defence. But to say Canna won the WC for Italy single-handedly is far from the truth

Baresi and Cannavaro, as good as they were, could never reach the same class and consistency Maldini has for over 25 years. I dunno about Bobby Moore, but Beckenbauer is only called "the greatest defender" by FIFA because he can both attack and defend extremely well, and scores lots of goals. But when it comes to pure defending, Beckenbauer has got nothing on Maldini.
