  • on christmas week im going to steves pets and im either getting a parakeet (i already have a female parakeet) i want to get a boy (i dont care what the bird gender is ill still love them) then again i really want a cockateel but i only have 100 dallors witch bird should get?

  • This whole series was very informative, thank you! I'll be getting a hand-fed parakeet soon and your information and calm handling of the birds is invaluable to see and hear.

  • thats kind of a really bad cage number 1 its too small and it only has on tiny perch and when the parakeet is on the perch the poor Cocktail is trying to climb to get on but he cant and he has to sit on the food cup

  • doodle-oodle-oodle!

  • cage to small

  • my parakeet is just beautiful she is plain yellow with white cheeks

  • Can the bird poop threw the cage

  • i love these videos. although i do not have a bird, i wouldnt mind one. just a quick question; isnt it not nice to trim feathers?

  • @dogshot0410 Please look at the Animal Exchange trimming video and read the comments. I think that will help you realize how important trimming is.

  • @dogshot0410 Looking at the big picture, you're actually 'splitting hairs' when you ask whether or not it's 'nice' to trim a bird's wings.

"So that once again this parakeet won't be able to fly".. so basically it can't survive in the wild anymore. Enjoy your little cage bird.

PS the taxidermy parakeet in the background is hilarious

  • i love all your videos ty for posting them i subscribed : )

  • My Cocckatiel and my parakeet bit each other!

  • i'm pretty sure these cages are a bit small. are they temporary? and i suggest a 30x18x18 cage. i found several on amazon for only 40 dollars. great video by the way!

  • @keetrolli3 If the bird will be out of the cage and playing with you a lot, I really don't worry about the size of the cage other than to have adequate room to spread wings and move around. If it will be in the cage all the time, then get the biggest cage you can afford. By the way, wide cages are much better than tall.

  • @animalexchange1 yeah 30 inches is the length. and it seems you take good care of your birds=]

  • @animalexchange1 it is different for me though because i have chosen not to clip my birds' wings so they need some room to fly in their cage. same goes with any winged bird.

  • This is my opinion, but I think bird wing trimming is cruel. Birds' natural part is to fly around and enjoy being a bird, and someone comes along and "grounds" them! Birds in the wild and in captivity need to fly around. It's more natural for them. Yes, you can prevent your birdy form escaping and stuff, but how about closing doors and windows? You should take precautions as a bird owner, NOT ground your poor bird.

  • @BirdsRock11 Birds in the wild fly to find food and avoid predators.

  • It IS BAD TO CAGE DIFFERENT BIRD TYPES TOGETHER, THEY CAN FIGHT AND USUALLY DONT GET ALONG.

  • how big of a cage would a brown thrasher need? If, you know what kind of bird that is!

  • @MultiGodzilla2010 If you are a US resident, It is illegal for you to keep any native bird species so I suggest you redirect your attention to a parakeet , cockatiel or other permitted birds.

  • @animalexchange1 no no you have all wrong we are helping him fly and then we will let him go, and sell the cage!

  • @MultiGodzilla2010 The bird needs to go to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. You can locate one by checking with your local humane society.

  • @animalexchange1 he is also is still being baby fed

  • I have two really cute parakeets, Seaweed and Lulu. Please visit my channel and subscribe and comment. Please and Thank you. :)

  • Can a finch and a tiel mix?

  • @MsDixieMcEntire I prefer to cage them separately.

  • how do u tell if there a boy or a girl

  • I reccomend against pairing budgies and cockatiels....I rescued a budgie/cockatiel combo, and the budgie had chewed off the first three joints on the poor tiel's feet! Budgies are much more....um, we'll say "intense"...than cockatiels. Tiels should only be kept with other tiels.

Of course, the previous owners should have been more vigilant as well.

  • Can you please tell me how big a cage should be for 2 parakeets? a boy and a girl? because i want them to mate

  • @hussein335 18x18 inches would be nice but since the breeding box hangs on the outside, try to find a cage with a breeding door.

  • What if my cackatiel is 1 1 and 1/2 years and yor parakeets is 9 mounths old? Will the Cockatiel kill it or hurt it?

  • @BensJenkes They usually get along very well but each one is different.

  • AnimalExchange do we mix cocatiel and parakeet by putting a cockatiel in the cage with parakeets inside?

  • @fh1564838 It's best to let them get acquainted on neutral territory first and then put them in a cage big enough for a cockatiel.

  • wow that is a beautiful bird he is just bright and i dont no why but i like the color thats the color i want!

  • i watched aaaaaaanother video and itt said you shouldnt put any speices of birds together uless there the same kind

  • @staffepicfail101 Many species of finches combine easily also.

  • mines all yellow too

  • how could you put both of these types of food (parakeet and Cockatiel)

  • @56twinkie Get an extra cup for the cage. I like 4 cups because I then have one for treats also.

  • Hello I am 14 and your videos have helped me care for my pets and helped me get what you need I have budgies (4) and 2 cockatiels and you have helped me find better ways to help my pets health like kicking the old dyed seeds for natural undyed seeds. You should make a video on hissing cockroach care and ferret

Thank you for all you have done!!:)

  • i have a cockiteil and every time i try to hold it or touch it it hisses at me...why??

  • @9spainsoccer it doesnt trust you.

  • that cage is too small. I dont know if thats a permentant cage for them or just for now. But he could not spread his wings! Anyways, I have a parakeet that is in the middle of being trained. It still bites which hurts sooo badd. But i think tomorrow i mightt being going to petco to get another bird. I dont know if i should get another parakeet or a cockatiel. Bc i would like a bit larger bird.

  • @SayHiToGabby Another bird will mean your bird will not be as interested in you if you get the same species. Go for the cockatiel.

  • @animalexchange1 my mom wouldnt let me get a cockatiel and there were plenty there, i have 2 parakeets now a the one picks of the other. my mom doesn't really care about them so she just gets whatever is cheaper.....

  • I mean clip one wing

  • Do u only have to cut one wing

  • I absolutely love these videos! My first two parakeets died when they were 10 years old. I still miss them even after 8 years. The one I have now, Perky (Perkington Neelix) Is a handful but I love him to bits. He's six (going on 35) These videos are very informative and I love the calm and gentle nature you have. Perky and I thank you for all your help and thanks for the videos!!

  • @graybowe Thank you for your kind comments. How about adding some hints from your bird experience that others might find useful?

  • IHow much does a cockatiels cost

  • @skaterdude15awful Around here up to $50 dollars.. =/ What my brother says but he and I am going to get mine from my grandmother for free since she breeds her's.. :) Depends on where you get them.

  • @MsDixieMcEntire here i checked with petco and its about $90dollars ur lucky ur granmother breeds them :( i wanted one but my dad got me a conure.

  • @skaterdude15awful Conures are very pretty! :) As I said depends on where you get them.. I always try to look for a breeder first anyhow.. You're lucky because we have no petco without driving a long ways. ;)

  • @MsDixieMcEntire yea they are , i noticed that it does depend where u get it petco is like 3 miles from my house

  • @skaterdude15awful I want a blue parakeet to be cage mates with my cockatiel if my mom will let me, and I know they sell them at Petsmart, and there are ten stores a hours away from my house I believe, I've never been to one so I'm cautious about getting one.. I saw conures on their website and they are never under

$100 and can be $500 or maybe more.. so it does depend! Lol.

  • @MsDixieMcEntire yep :)

  • those r cute birds

  • Cage size is less important if you let it out a lot like I do. Mine has a small cage but she's out of it all day anyway.

  • @galanie Thank you. I agree.

  • Yeah they "usually" get along but you need to have the birds in separate cages first to see if they're compatible and don't attack eachother. >.<

  • your supposed to cut both feathers

  • @freewilly2jesse Cage size is determined both by the type of bird and how long it will be in the cage. If you have a pet budgie that is with you whenever you are home,I don't mind a small cade but if you have two little zebra finches that will be in the cage all the time, bigger is better.

  • my bird looooves to bit my fingers 24/7 xD

  • im 10 years old and my sisters 12 im going to get a parakeet for her cause she wants a bird

  • do you ever give your birds names ?

  • Comment removed

  • I've got lovebirds and budgies!

  • @Mariaelizabethg Sameee Here i named My Lovebird BEBE

  • oh and once agian no toys suprise

  • @XXsgirl37XX LOL

  • @XXsgirl37XX Toys are a whole topic unto themselves and I will do a video on toys in the near future

  • if he is asking for food he IS NOT WEENED

  • why is my MALE parakeet always quit. n latly like this last week its legs have felt cold...

  • I have a question. I bought a beautiful parrotlet yesterday. He's a blue male. He isn't tamed. I was wondering if you have any tips on taming him? He's adjusted pretty well. He's allowed me to hand feed him and he's perched on my finger for a quick moment, but he still nips.

Also, what treats are good for them. I saw someone feeding theirs egg whites so i did the same and he loves it. I just want to make sure it's healthy for him.

    Thanks!

  • Hi, my name is Juan and i want to know how much is a pet cockatiel and a parakeet. which pet is better a cockatiel or a parakeet what to you prefer ???

  • Each bird has its own personality. Parakeets are generally less expensive. Choose the bird that likes you.

  • i have 2 parakeets male female can i put a cockatiel with them?

  • If you have a pair, why not breed them and have a cockatiel in a different cage as a pet?

  • How do you hold a parakeet? I will be getting one and its my first time........Also any tips????? Thanks

  • How many birds do u have?

    I love your vids!!

  • my brother has a love bird and it bit me and i obviasly said ouch will he know that hert and she will keep doing it

  • The bird is very impressed that it caused you to say ouch and will probably see if it works again. Wear a glove until it no longer works.

  • @animalexchange1

ok thanks for the advise i will do that next time thanks again have a great day merry christmas =0) <333

  • Maybe. Give it a try.

  • Hi i have a single parakeet at home that we got about 2 and a half weeks ago. Im going to become pretty busy so i wanted to get him a friend. would a cockatiel be a good idea or another parakeet....i just dont want them to breed.

  • Usually a cockatiel will be fine.

  • You should get another parakeet.

If you have a male and a female, don't put in any nesting material or anything that looks like a cave to them - then it's very unlikely that the female lays eggs.

  • THAT BIRD IS VERY PRITTY

  • thats a beautiful bird! and thats the prettiest cockatiel i have ever seen i really like that cage!

  • THAT BIRD AIS A PRITTY 1

  • What's an ideal cage size for a cockatiel?

  • It need to be large enough for the bird to spread its wings and moove around easily. Wider is better than tall. Be sure there is a nice big door to make it easy to get the bird in and out.

  • If i get a cockatiel and a parakeet and put them in the same cage with the birds be more intrested in each other or me like if the parakeet wasnt even there

  • Usually they will still be interested in you.

  • Whats the name of that cage?

  • The cages in our videos are mostly Hoei cages from Japan. Unfortunately they are no longer available in th US but they were my favorite cages for the last 30 years. I wish somebody would start making them again. They are excellent quality and you may be able to find a used one.
