That was terrific! I'm jealous. I wore a pair of Roger McQuinn glasses to school back in 1965 and my homeroom teacher took them from me and I never got them back. And you know what? It just hit me. Her name was Mrs. Byrd!!!
Thanks to share this song with us; It is simply the greatest 1967 song, and it is the year that has probably be the richest for music melodies in versatile genres. And perhaps the greatest melody ever. If I 'll live in an island, that 's the one I 'll pick up first And what a great word/number associated nickname !
Don't suppose you could offer some hints on how to play it, could you?--Like maybe the chords you're using? The guitar chords you're playing sound great, but they don't look anything like the ones in the Bob Dylan songbook I have.
WOW, these are great! I've always wanted to learn that jingle jangle style and these videos will go a long way to aid. The first album I ever purchased was a Byrds album, though I can't remember which. Keep on keepin' on...
Just a great cover of this Dylan song..I always loved The Birds version..Love the sond of your beautiful Rickenbacker Guitar also...Keep the great music coming
Manni (BeatnikManfred) mentioned you on his channel, so I thought I would check out your channel. WOW!! What a fantastic cover! I've always loved Rickenbackers. I currently have a LesPaul. The Rickenbacker is an amazing sounding guitar!! This truly deserves at least 5 stars!! You sound great! Excellent video! Very well done. I think I'm going to subscribe! :)) Peace2U, Kim
@Byrds1967 This was always one of my favourite Byrds guitar solos on this track. Another is the lovely jazzy solo from 'Everybody's been burned'. Actually I have two 12 string guitars : both acoustic though ; one less expensive YAMAHA and then an imported MARTIN which is lovely but less expensive D12 X1, with the spruce top but high pressure laminate back and no markings on the fretboard. I bought it from U.S. website Elderley instruments.
Nice play and comfterble voice. Looks like you take your hobby serious, with good equipment. Personally I like those who make their own versions when they cover artists better then the ones trying to be as close to the original.
Excellent! Saw the Byrds at the Maui War Memorial Gymnasium in 67. They actually warmed up for the Young Rascals! Still remember the Byrds performance that night!! You've done your homework and did it well!
Fantastic job. Your Ric sounds great. If you don't mind my asking what did you have to pay for your RM model Ric? I tried to buy a Ric back about '70 or so and they were around $700 then. I would say you gave considerably more than that for yours though.
Great job and I'd somewhat agree. But, One thing I don't quite think that it rings out quite like it should. I've seen McQuinn several times from his Byrd days to as recent as this year. He is the master in being able to finger pick these songs on either electric or acoustic and I've never seen anyone who can duplicate it so there is always something missing.
Absolutely wonderful rendition. Very nice little touch (the square framed sunglasses). I also enjoyed the backup vocal by your friend Enn. I have subscribed to you. Please give my channel a read through and listen to some of my stuff and tell me what you think. Thanks.
Magnificent Dave. There ought to be an X-Prize for jangling so high into the stratosphere. I'm all snowed in here in upstate New York and your Rickenbacker knocked half the snow off my roof!
There ought to be a X-Prize awarded for achieving this much JANGLE! I'm snowed in here in upstate New York and your Rickenbacker knocked half the snow off my roof. Keep them coming Dave - I'm saving each one of them!
Good rendition. I covered this on drums along with Eight Miles High and Turn, Turn, Turn. Keep playing.

Byrds? dude Bob Dylan... It's not even fair when they were were less than a few decades apart... Still think Dylan did it better anyways...

BTW in Folk Rewind, McGuinn played My Back Pages using the Turn, Turn, Turn picking. It sounded great! I think I like it better.

McGuinn's solo on this now classic, was one of the most heartfelt best, from
1967. His entire arrangement here, is brilliant, and timelessly fresh 43 years
later. David, your tributes are sincere efforts to recapture precious moments
from a living legend. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
