yup came away fro that show feeling zep were way off the mark compared with the show at dundee caird hall a short 7 years earlier! bob and the boys were definitely affected by disco fever...................
i heard that jimmy has a lot of full concert footage from the led zepp days only problem is its all 8mm film and some of the rolls are jumbled up so like the led zepp dvd it could take a year to put each concert on dvd and thats why i think we have not had any more new dvds yet and jimmys a perfectionist he will want the sound to be perfect
A shame "White Summer" got chopped... always loved that number.
As for the matter of Page "dropping his guitar pick," he is simply adjusting the levels on one of his pedals, which he is clearly unhappy with for the duration of the song.
No doubt Page had his issues with heroin -- it was a serious issue with professional musicians of every era (check any Stones footage from the 70s for evidence.)
A shame "White Summer" got chopped... always loved that number.
As for the matter of Page "dropping his guitar pick," he is simply adjusting the levels on one of his pedals, which he is clearly unhappy with for the duration of the song. Page certainly had his issues with crank, as did many musicians of that era; check any Stones footage from the 70s.
No matter what Led Zeppelin will always be one of the greatest bands around. I don't ever tire of watching them in concert. No there is no excuse for the drugs though they suffered through a lot. To date no one has ever been able to duplicate them nor will they ever be duplicated.
Als dit in Ahoy is was ik er bij. Aanvankelijk begonnen ze een beetje "suf" te spelen en werden uitgefloten daarna kwamen ze terug op het podium en gaven een geweldig concert.
Its a shame the way it ended. It looks like if Bonham had lived, Jimmy Page might have had to go to rehab though to keep the band going. Towards the end of this clip during Kashmir, he appears to be staggering. He also dropped his guitar pick (you can see him bend over to pick it up). Im glad he got off the heroin. Ive seen Page/Plant live twice.......but Id do just about anything to see Bonham drum live.
@1964LedZep THey wouldn't still be around. They were struggling when Bonham died. Their fanbase was less than half of what it was 3 years earlier, Plant was going to end it in a few years anyways, and he admitted so, really, Bonham was just a scapegoat.
@PBANDSNOW i guess you read that somewhere,i think if you had that conversation with either jimmy or robert youd get a few laughs. As for a fanbase, this is not some half wit xfactor outfit.Bands like this will be around in music history for ever, just as all great composers who write and perform in a magnificent way. Can only assume as to if they would still be around, maybe not,but then again with all true greats they dont need tobe when leaving behind them a legacy like that.
@bonzofan1977 ...Heroin had taken over Jimmy by this time ( and Peter Grant rip) which was a shame. He decided he wanted to be the spotlight and pushed Robert out to the side of the stage. Jimmy wanted to be center stage, but he was in a bad way at this stage. Something similar occurred to Ozzy in the latter days of Sabbath with Iommi.
I noticed recently that for the first time in Zep's career on the album In Through the Out Door has more songs written by Jones/Page then Page/Plant. I've had that album for years and never really looked at the credits enough to notice. Hmmmm that is interesting indeed.
@LightenUpMcGraw Prior to that album Plant had been in a car accident and was not in good form/health. Jones though had bought lots of new "Toys" as he put it and had been experimenting a lot with them.........It was just a case of when they went into the studio to rehearse for I.T.T.O.D. he had an awfull lot more ideas for songs than the rest of the band.
@Metalflake111 - Not sure thats completely true. I have read much about the band and period and I have read in more then one account that Jimmy Page was deep into "Mr. Brownstone" use and just wasn't really able to lead and produce at the time of writing, who knows. Apparently by the time they got back on the road in 79/80 Jimmy had tackled the problem and was in charge again. Pagey sure looks skinny in 80 but then again I guess he always looked skinny...well thats the skinny.
Jimmy was a mere shadow of his former self by this time anyways from all the drugs...he really screwed up when he let the drugs mean more to him than his playing did
★Led Zeppelin★ remain the greatest rock band to ever set foot on a stage. No band before or since has even come close. Zep's first six albums so far, have sold 76-million copies just in the U.S. alone, that's an average of 12.6 million per album. No music artist of any genre has ever matched this feat.
@tthoy1 : also, remember Led Zeppelin set new ground in terms of marketing and creating mystery and excitement. The 4th album was untitled purposely to show record companies that a band did not need their marketing budgets and help to sell records. They also set new ground in demanding higher fees from promoters-figures that were unheard of before in the industry.Hail the Mighty Z*E*P*P*L*I*N!!!!!!!
the lighting in the 1980 shows were the best imo, knebworth used too much pink in each song. in trampled underfoot you can barely see the rotating multicolour lights
I saw the saturday show in Oakland , 1977 , and I saw the tour dates for the USA for 1981 if Bonzo hadnt died . These tour dates were MIND BOGGLING !! 6 Nites in N.Y. , 4 nites in Chicago , 4 nites in Seattle , 4 Nites in Cleveland , 8 nites in L.A. . research it , it was UNREAL !
This was June 21st, 1980. There would only be 10 more concerts and then the best band to ever walk the earth will fall. Luckily, it was this end that brung new beginnings for the 3 remaining members of Led Zeppelin. Not all was lost, but a Bonzo sized loss is a big one. Long live Led Zeppelin in our hearts and memories. They are immortal.
if one listens carefully and filters through the limitations of this recording and disregards some of the opinions...they might hear the sounds left remaining from a very good dream...please don't wake me back up yet with that other stuff that seems to be the reality of what is left now...

@jackpursuitcarvalho I've seen Zeppelin several times in concert and countless times on Youtube with more advanced technology.I still say that they are so-so to bad on a live format. Some of the solo performance that I have heard from musicians on Youtube are considerably better then that of Page live. Zeps movie"The Song Remains The Same" bears out what I say.Musically, it was aweful. Visually with Plant and the bands light show, they are very entertaining to watch perform.
@Tony63909 I agree, you can't really watch this and say it's an incredible live show. I will say some of the earliest performances...'69-71...and pretty freaking awesome. And, Plant's voice still sounded great live. However, Bonham and Jonsey were strong to the end.
@drummerkid71 I don't want to know who you are and I have even less interest in knowing who you play for. As far as my reply, I was only trying to match your level of stupidity, but I do acknowledge that I failed because It's not possible to go that low.
@Tony63909 WOW! Did you get your mom or dad to write that for you? I'm not the one who said Led Zeppelin was the worst sounding band live ....... goes to show you're just a plain idiot. I'm glad you don't know who I am...if you did know me I would be embarrassed. You're a lowlife ...... get a job.

I was sick as hell but still went to the show.
One of my main memories is that Bonzo had to cover up the lack of bass because John Paul Jones was busy on the keys.
But bassdrums are ofcourse not the same as bassguitar.
This is the first time I ever see a video footage.
