My sister's friend had a major crush on Mark Lindsay back then. Love the gogo dancers, though. Also, doesn't the bass player look like a demon-possessed version of Davy Jones?
@bopiy1 WOW! What planet was that????? The BEGINNING of rock 'n' roll came about 10 years BEFORE.....with Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, and Little Richard.
This is from Hubalu ? Just a guess. I love this song after all these years. Their best tune. They just dont make rock n roll like theiy used to. I remember jamming this on KFRC in San Francisco on my tiny AM transistor radio.
she does look like Goldie Hawn. The timing might be just right. "Laugh-In" arrived about two years later. she was cute as a button and the song was and is hot to this day. I wish Mark was still willing to perform with what is left of the original Raiders.
It took a lot of courage to release an anti-drug song in 1966...risking instant alienation and "unhip-ness" in the music scene of the time. Yet time, together with the huge number of drug casualties in the music scene have proved the Raiders and the writers of this song totally RIGHT. Drugs are for mugs...
They took a BIG hit because of their anti-drug stance but these guys are one of the 60's and 70's most under-rated bands of the era. Love 'em and their honest straight ahead rock and roll style. They came up the hard way and when Dick Clark recognized their potential and kick started their national careers they made some enemies. Oh well, talent is talent.
Been there done that.....great tune..man those were the days.one of the greatest bands brought us so many great tunes, they live on for all generations thanks you tube.
This song was gutsy for the time in which it hit the charts even so called straight kids were experimenting with drugs by 1966 ~ It was the thing that set us a part from our parents ~ It wasn't until the early 1970's that the message this song held really began to hit home & it was in the early 1970's that artists like Janis,Jimi,& Jim Morrison died

One of the catchiest songs of all time, forget I was born in 66 and this was a classic since my ears first laid sound upon it!? Is that an expression? It is now
Perfect example of bad timing a fantastic anti drug song at the height of the better living through chemistry days ~ It took courage & really hurt their momentum
@Nuerth I doubt that, this song is their best known one I think, it's always been an important message, what with the casualities of the 60s. Jimi, Janis, Jim Morrison, the list only starts there
Indeed, different times / tunes. I always liked the beat to this song. And those Go-go girls where so funny to watch. PR&R had some very nice hits. Thanks for placing this good quality video and recording (considering the age).
As soon as I saw this, Goldie Hawn came to mind as the dancing girl on the right. Very possible as here it a description of the group on a Jerry and Gary Lewis TV special :
7) Paul Revere and the Raiders - "Ooh Poo Pah Doo" (Note: Goldie Hawn is the go-go dancer in the left "cage")

I LOVE the paper plates used for decorations - low budget or what???!!!! Hilarious! I still have the ticket stubs from their concert in Toledo, Ohio in 1966!!!
One of my favorite bands behind the Beatles & Stones growing up in the 60's and they had a cool stage gimmick. They don't make great songs like this anymore....basically music sucks today!...Anyway the Raiders were right there with the best of them and is that Goldie Hawn go-go dancing on the right hand side ?
@johnbarbieri100 I believe they were in the same league as far as records sales.I believe the only bands who outsold them were The Beatles and The Stones during the late '60s. I was just a kid at the time, but wow did it seem they got a lot of airplay back then. :)
Freddy Weller replaced Fang. Coe was on drums. Sebastian is at the start of this because he was hosting the show Golden Age of Rock and Roll in the 90s. That's where this clip was taken from, but the performance is from some other show circa 67/68.
If it wasnt for these dorky outfits Paul Revere and the Raiders would be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Doomed by one bad decision. Give em a break-these guys are at least as good as the Dave Clark Five- AND THEIR NOT BRITISH
If you want an eye opener look up Paul Revere on WIKI - and see how many hits he wrote.
About 5 years ago at a huge outdoor all day show in Pa he and The Raiders were the featured act among 9 groups. WOW I was shocked at how good they were
With the image that television promoted them as being clowns, they really got short changed in recognition. They were a really great band when they started out and songs like this were a testament to the quality of their material. Very underrated and will probably never get the appreciation they deserved.
Great stuff.. ah but those were the days when life seemed so much simpler. Thanks for posting one of my all time favorite songs from one of my all time favorite groups.
@gtxfan Yeah, I have to agree that it's a good song, but 1966 was about around the time the country started going down in a spiral...mainly kids on drugs, hence the meaning of this song.
whats the name of that SEXY dance those girls are doing? anyone know? thats my favorite part of this video!! also a favorite childhood song.
