One thing I never understood is that when playing the game one can reach nalbina on foot in 4 minutes, yet in the CGI it took this entire armada of flying transports to get there fast enough to reinforce it.
Interesting that while there's Old School Dogfighting with machine guns with those flying fighter things, land doctrine in XII is classic medieval melee with minor use of guns. Would make a great Total War mod.

Did anyone find there was too much of a grind, or to much time in between cut-scenes/story scenes in this game? I thought so. It seemed you really had to stop and just grind levels by doing hunts if all you wanted was to progress through the story.

I've played the game through to the end, bluesun (once). Whatever, design is superior instead of graphics -- you're quibbling over semantics. My point was that it's at the expense of story, which just never developed properly. Character development amounts to a LOT more than just "throwing in a twist" (which most characters, including Vaan, didn't even have -- and when they did, they were either predictable or cheesily over-the-top, like the one concerning Basch).
Vaan's character was pretty much explained from the start. He, along with many others, were not fond of the empire. He wishes to go against them, but can't do much about it, therefore follows the rest of the people. That was all from maybe only 5% into the whole game. Ashe was a character notable of her change though. Still, IMO, the setting remained a forté.
Personally, I'd say in this FF, the characters revolved more around "ethics" a bit. Anyhow, we probably have different preferences, just like how so many has loved FF8 or 9 or X and etc.
The game actually has a weak storyline; they dumped all their intellectual resources into a solid script and setting and comparatively little into making a good game. The ending is abrupt and unfulfilling, the characters have poor development, etc. Don't be seduced by the graphics.
