@jawesome01 - Let's put it this way, when Chick Corea decides to pick up an instrument, the manufacturers send a "thank-you" note.

Corea playing the keytar in the mid-late 80's gave it a legitimacy that it had otherwise lacked among "serious" musicians.

Could someone tell me who plays the intro chord synth like figure in the beginning with weckl before chick and frank starts on the main lead? Chic doesnt have his hands on the keys. Is it playback cd? Very disappointing if so.

looks like it was the bass...if you look back there..he probably had some kind of synth foot pedal

I believe it's a sequencer playing in the background. In the early 80's sequencers were a breakthrough. I don't believe guys like Chick Corea would ever use a playback CD. Chick used sequencing on fiew ocassions. Side Walk is one of best examples.

If you look at Patitucci right at the start of the vid he's playing with his pedals... I'd say he had it set up on playback... Whether it was prerecorded bass through a synth or Chick prerecorded I couldn't say...

looks like Gambale is playing synth on his guitar. From what i see, the only sequencing is on the drums.  This is pre-ProTools. The keys have limited looping, and I can't see any foot controlers to start or stop a sequence for the keys...

It's all done with synth programming. The band uses it throughout all tours post scott-henderson. Chick pre-programs the music which plays throughout each song.

O5rsx don't listen to manthevan, as long as your open to knew stuff thats alright. Chick Corea, he's pretty kick ass, I must agree with you though, he's definately a jazz nerd trying to appeal to a wider audience with his "fusion" of jazz and funk... Try listening to his more conservative solo/trio(drum and bass) piano and I have a feeling you'll be pleasantly surprised.
